Jack Gray
AC360 Producer/Writer
Good evening and welcome to the AC360 Academy Awards Live Blog. The winners, the losers, Jack Nicholson’s sunglasses…we’ve got your running commentary. And sure, considering all that’s going on in the world, the Oscars aren’t hugely important. But if you’re looking to get away from the bleak news-of-the-day for a few hours, then this blog is the place for you.
We should also point out that we’re not encouraging you to change the channel from CNN, but if you’re going to watch the Oscars anyway, you might as well watch them with us.
And even if you’re not watching them, because of your feud with Kate Winslet or whatever, we think you’ll still enjoy the live blog. I’ll be with you from 8:00pm Eastern Time until the Oscars finish airing here in New York.
If you would like to participate in our Live Blog (and we hope you do) please follow our rules.
Here are some of them:
1) Please keep your comments short
2) Don’t write in ALL CAPS (we don’t like screaming)
3) Use your real name
Please note that due to volume we may not be able to post all comments.

Anderson Cooper goes beyond the headlines to tell stories from many points of view, so you can make up your own mind about the news. Tune in weeknights at 8 and 10 ET on CNN.

Jerry Lewis............."Hey Lady"!!!!!! So awesome. Oh hell, I just totally dated myself. LOL.
Yay Jerry Lewis! Amazing work as always. Murphy kind of laughed at the wrong time, eh?
wow – eddie murphy... hollywood is sure digging deep into the talent base tonight !
Eddie is in the house!
@Roxanne, yes there are way too much commercials tonight. Get to the show already. I'm sick of the ABC news commercial.
OMG Eddie Murphy. I love him!
@ Ashley—that’s where I get my news and my “news”, and I also sift through The Daily Beast. Funny how most of us are one the same page.
You guys are making newspapers cry sad tears.
Jack, where is Anderson?
Kelly,
Anderson is so busy and working his assignment for 60 minutes, so he will be here tonight or tomorrow night! he will be there soon!
Was just watching the "Boom goes the Dynamite" bit on youtube and there's already over 15 comments within 2 minutes on one of the clips from that horrible "sports anchor"
way too many commercials....at least it isnt the ExtenZe ones.
Brandi,
A parent should never have to bury a child - it's just not fair. My heart goes out to you, because while time helps, it never truly heals.
Stacy, I don't judge anyone, but you are asking the wrong person. I am a vegetarian!
LOL Jack..boom goes the dynamite..too funny
@JackGray: I'm partial to Bruce, too.
@ Michelle- I saw the little Slumdog Millionaire kids with Seacrest, I don't think he was mocking them though. He was trying at least to talk to them.
Here comes the slumdog sweep
@Jack and Michelle: Best soundtrack have the music of James Newton Howard. Your musics are great.
Not enough alcohol on this show.
Is it me or are there more commercials than normal??? Wish I could fast forward these commercials.
@ Ashley-that's where I get my news and my "news", and I also sift through The Daily Beast. Funny how most of us are one the same page.
@Esma. Well, crazier things have happened...
@Fay: Yes, how convenient. It is all about us, isn't it? Of course, I have to catch Maher on the Youtube since I don't have HBO.
@ Maria: thank you.
@ Ashley, I get my news from CNN(Of course), the MSNBC gang(I Luv KO and Chris Matthews), Colbert, Jon, Maher, and Huff Post.
well done SlumDog.. they just won another academy...well represented india and the storyline was great...
Thanks Jack I had forgotten about the boss.
Maybe he will be performing.
Everyone who worked on Slumdog is adorable. I saw all the little kids on the red carpet. but they were with Ryan Seacrest who pretty much mocked them for not speaking english. But I hope the kids come on stage later.
Slumdog Millionaire three wins.
No surprise, but I think it's gonna be a Slumdog night!
Thanks Jack, I had a feeling. Very much what I had heard, but I wanted your professional opinion.
OMG That "Boom Does The Dynamite" – poor guy...what a train wreck! I thought he was gonna cry!
Welcome Chris S!
Slumdog Millionare third a row won! Good!
Slumdog again!!! That Chris...he's such a little dickens!
Ashley, that list is frighteningly similar, and by that I mean exactly the same, as my list of news sources! 🙂
Why is the show sooooooo long? Get to best Actress, Actor and Movie already. And more of Hugh or course:)
Dag, Slumdog again. I knew they would clean up tonight.
soo...what you are saying is I shouldn't spend my hard earned money? I did hear mixed reviews, so I'll just wait for it to come out on HBO don't even want to buy the DVD
@ Michelle: I don't know about the other Best Song nominees, but Bruce Springsteen's title track from The Wrestler is beautiful.
I get my news from Jon, Stephen, Anderson, Rachel Maddow, and the political communities at LiveJournal.
Ashley: You'd pretty much have to with that line-up. But I love 'em all, so guess it's not such a bad thing.
Yes, Smith just said: "Boom goes the dynamite." Haha. Smith needs to set up a cot there on stage. Jeesh.
I need either another Jackman presentation or the end of the show....
@ Jack, I notice change for your title, congratulation.
Will: Yes, the still have me here. I believe Hugh is napping." LOL
Will Smith is perfect for these awards.
Theirs is my favorite acceptance speech to far. Totally sincere and WELL DESERVED!
Slumdog Millionaire two wins.
Over a thousand posts!
Jack, the Oscar goes to you, tonight.
@Jack, I just looked up "Boom goes the Dynamite" Funny!
And AC360 too, right? RIGHT?
@Stacy, definitely and how convenient that they are basically scheduled back-to-back....
and once again SlumDog takes home another award.
@ Vanessa & Pati Mc: Benjamin Button was OK...it kept my attention and was beautifully shot. But, Best Picture? Not in my view. Definitely had a Forrest Gump feel, which isn't necessarily bad. But it was rather long.
That is fair for Slumdog
@ Chris Sosa... I couldn't agree more! It opened my eyes to some things that I never thought of before because it just is one of those topics not many people want to discuss. Luckily there are people like Bill Maher that don't hold back and present it in a way that hey I'm just asking you a question, why won't you answer me?! haha
@ Stacy-I have no clue what happened to the "Soy Bomb" dude, perhaps he's an executive for Silk Soymilk.
