Jack Gray
AC360 Producer/Writer
Good evening and welcome to the AC360 Academy Awards Live Blog. The winners, the losers, Jack Nicholson’s sunglasses…we’ve got your running commentary. And sure, considering all that’s going on in the world, the Oscars aren’t hugely important. But if you’re looking to get away from the bleak news-of-the-day for a few hours, then this blog is the place for you.
We should also point out that we’re not encouraging you to change the channel from CNN, but if you’re going to watch the Oscars anyway, you might as well watch them with us.
And even if you’re not watching them, because of your feud with Kate Winslet or whatever, we think you’ll still enjoy the live blog. I’ll be with you from 8:00pm Eastern Time until the Oscars finish airing here in New York.
If you would like to participate in our Live Blog (and we hope you do) please follow our rules.
Here are some of them:
1) Please keep your comments short
2) Don’t write in ALL CAPS (we don’t like screaming)
3) Use your real name
Please note that due to volume we may not be able to post all comments.

Jack, The Godfather is the GREATEST movie of all time. Crazy how they were going to get rid of Al Pacino because they felt that he wasn't good, but when he did that restaurant scene, it was all gravy after that. Amazing scene. Just the intensity in his eyes. You saw fear, anxiety, grit, anger, gangster, all in his eyes in that scene. AMAZING!
Uh oh. We've angered Jack re: the Godfather. I just wasn't that impressed. Maybe I wasn't in the right mood at the time.
@ EJ.. ditto on the only seeing 30 minutes of The Godfather, next to impossible to keep my attention (obviously)
Good Night Jack and everyone, This was fun. Keep in touch.
Wow. . . ya gotta give to Jen–having to give out two awards right in front of B & A!!
Wall-E was an amazingly moving little film. Loved it.
I've never actually seen the Godfather Trilogy...maybe after tonight's discussion I will have to go out and rent it so I can say that I don't quite live under a rock all the time
That Mr. Kato is adorable! "This is very heavy."
Bwah! I love that he quoted Styx!!! That's hysterical.
I figured Jack was a Godfather guy....explains the maroon tuxedo.
Where’s Anderson?
Anderson is so busy right, he is working on 60 mintues now.
What ruthless cameramen, all this Jen- Brangie back and forth interaction is making me cringe!
@Jo Ann: True. They make is so easy.
@Stacy, then I guess it's ok for me to fuhgeddabout ever seeing The Godfather...
Ahh...I was looking away, did they actually cut to Brad when Jen was up presenting...how tacky!
EJ, the first 30 minutes is just the opening. It's where they lay out certain characters, and the basis for the film, but it gets wayyyy better, trust me. More Drama, more action, more intensity. It may be long, but it's well worth it.
It must be strange for Jennifer to be right in front of Brangelina...the faces they must be making when announcing the nominees
The animated short category always looks like things from my nightmares in childhood...
wait a second...are you all actually debating whether or not The Godfather is a good movie?! It's one of the GREATEST movies of ALL TIME. Check out the new Vanity Fair...great article about how it was made.
@ Jack: Final comment because I have to pack but Wall-E was just down right weird for a rated G kid's film. Wait until you can buy it at Wal-Mart for $1.00. Bolt and Kung Fu Panda were better.
i loved kung fu panda and wanted it to win. 🙁
Jack, you should definitely check out Wall-E
Did anyone else print out an Oscar ballot? I am only one for four right now. Good thing I don't play the stock market.
i rented all 3 Godfather movies after watching them the 1st time out of order which completely confused me. i watched all 3 in that one night and now know them in and out! lol
you are funny (seeing them out of order) – I may see them one day when I'm in the mood
@ Megan
Wall-E is great!
Steve Jobs is (without words) a genius
Yes, too many people to present one award with best supporting actress. Steve Martin and Tina Fey were cute together. And, Jennifer Aniston seems a little bit nervous – hmmmmm.
WAW AC was remembering the pass of his laptop?!:)
What's the Best Shot?
Lovely the Slumdog
Keep good working
ok, i'm back.
i felt so bad for jennifer aniston. she looked so nervous; brad and angelina were right in front of her!
@Jack: Oh, but if somebody does something crazy, we need it to be remixable. If you can't make the clip into a remix later, it's no good.
@Jack – Didn't see Wall*E? Amazing film. Get on watching that!
I am right Yes!!!!!!!! Whooohooo Walle won!!!!!
Wall-e rocks!!!
Jack Black talked about doing well voicing animated movies but he actually IS a cartoon!
I actually saw Wall-E. Don't usually watch to many animated films but I enjoyed it.
I didn't see Wall-E. But I like that a movie called "Kung Fu Panda" was just announced as an Oscar nominee. That sounds about right.
And the Oscar was thrown in the trash ... lol
Aanimation cool!
There is actually a version of the Godfater where are three parts are interwoven into a single movie....it is interesting to see the young godfather (Deniro) and how it all started
YAY – Wall-E !! Well deserved
'Milk' is about the only movie that I really want to see, even though it brings back some sad memories of a horrible time in my hometown.
Hey if any one wants a laugh check out a video on you tube two guys renacting the nonminees of this years oscars .
I agree erier2003. It would be nice to have the best showbiz team on television at the Oscars.
I think Godfather is one of those movies that you either love or don't care for.
Could the intro for animation have been ANY longer?
@Jack: Godfather fan or not?
That animation was pretty cool.
Nice animation short!
aww...loved Wall-E and Kung fu Panda and Madagascar..loved them all..AND I can recite ALL 3 movies word per word I have kiddos
Anthony – Is it the white knot for gay marriage?
@ Jack – or maybe we will get a "streaker" like in the 70's. Poor David Niven. LOL.
Wall-E will totally win this...
Walle is my favorite movie...... I hope will win soon
Vanessa – no I did not. I just couldn't get into it so I think I saw 30 minutes of it. (The Godfather)
Tina Fey. Always good to see her.
She looked great. I loved her dress. And of course Jennifer Aniston always looks great.
Stacy, I enjoy mocking celebrities even without Jack, but it helps to have a instigator!
