hey all, no cindy if you have too much house u still lose it, this is about getting rid of loans that balooned to 10-15% and letting those under water go bankrupt and have the loan crammed down to current market value, its to help those doing the right thing, current attempts only help people months behind, cindy this is also the second half of that tarp money bush just gave to the banks

As if times were not hard enough I have to have surgery on my broken ankle this Friday. The co-pay for me will be in the thousands. Not a good time to have to spend extra money. 🙁

Since we're in a global recession, how are other nations dealing with this crisis? How are their debts comparing to ours?

It sounds like Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, two "culprits of the collapse," will end up benefiting from this! What is going to prevent the banks from granting more risky loans?

I want to know what happened to fixing the economy from the bottom up? Divide the money that is to go to the financial institutions among the taxfiling households. Mortgages will be paid, plus other debt. Banks will have their money. Those who do not need the help will spend and give an infusion into our economy. Why give the money to people that have already proved that they are not trustworthy????????

Hello Anderson, CNN team and fellow bloggers.

I weren't people worried about the huge debt we accrued for the expensive never ending war ? Money to help the economy and those with financial home woes are things I'm willing to support and pay in the long run.

I just want to know where is Obama getting this money from to bail out the foreclosure houses? Why should I have to pay for someone elses house in the end?

    February 18, 2009 at 10:04 pm |
  29. Glen Up North

My guess with this help to homeowners is that it now gives banks the time to properly assess (hopefully, with guidelines from the government) who should have not been approved for a mortgage. This, hopefully, also gives time for people to properly assess if they can truly afford to continue making payments after the "coverage period" granted by Obama's $75 billion is complete... and also gives them time to make other living arrangements when the end of the "coverage period" is complete. This is if all things are done fairly (which is why I feel government and banks must work together, not one dominating the other).

75 Billion for 9 Million people?

If you crunch the numbers it doesn't add up. There is no way that 9 million people will get any substancial benefit from this.

@Cindy, my question exactly. How do you tell who is in foreclosure 'through no fault of their own' from those who just bought too much house for their income, or bought on speculation?

Welcome back Cooper! We missed ya!

So how is Obama going to know who was or wasn't doing right by buying their house when he gives out money to help save them? Many people got into houses that they could not afford knowing all along that they couldn't and were in over their heads. So they get help any way?
