Anytime, Ash...and I know what you mean. Even Manhattan felt like a small town after 9/11. It's odd what brings you together...

How could they pass this bill when not everyone has read it? Handwritten parts? I thought 500 pages of reading a week in college was bad...theres no way everyone could read 1,000 pages in a matter of days. Sad that this happens more than on just this bill...

    Hi People!

Lets just say a little prayer for the deceased people. God knows why.

But what is happening to planes in America now?

my solution is : we all need to board Air force one or drive to different states because you will have control over what happens!

May God console the dereaved family

Why does that republican senator want more time to read the bill when he already plans on voting no?

I don't generally get bothered by flying but I hate flying in the winter, especially since I live in Michigan where the winter weather can change so quickly. Ice has always been the thing that scares me the most, whether you are driving or flying so the reason for this most recent plane crash being ice on the wings has been interesting to me. I wonder, historically, how many planes have crashed because of ice?

Boerner is stretching it. Actually, if you had the 1100 page doc online you could search it through and figure out pretty clearly within that time table what it said. I am ok with aids reading it too if they get the info to the Congressperson. These folks are not ordinary run of the mill people. They are Congressmen. They should know how to handle time pressure.

What!!! it happens all the time..(they don't read the bills?) Are you kidding me I am loosing it here......
We must hold these people accountable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. Ashley - Hamlin, NY

Robert – Putting money into education doesn't improve short-term spending to help the economy quickly enough. That is why Congress cut it out.

Anderson, we give you permission to nap during the commercials. Just don't drool on the blackberry.

Anderson, how in the world are you still awake? Especially since you don't look like you're exhausted at all. Hopefully you have nothing to do but sleep this weekend, it's much deserved!

How would you like to be Sen. Sherrod Brown? This whole deal is riding on his shoulders...but...no pressure or anything.

Somehow I am doubting that anyone has read that entire bill. Maybe the people that typed it up. That is rather scary if you ask me. Perhaps that is why Sen. Sherrod is late? He wanted to read it first.

God Bless David Gergen! He is definitely the voice of reason, isn't he? 🙂

Haha. Yes, David Gergen, Boehner made that point quite dramatically.

They're going to pass something they haven't read? That makes no sense.....no matter how urgent it is.

Anderson, you messaged a little earlier that you were on air until 4 this morning and then you just messaged that you were on a plane to Washington at 5 and back just this afternoon...arent you exhausted?

Courtney, no need for apologies. That post was beautiful.

Anderson, I hear ya! All worrying does is give you worry lines. I've really been working on letting go of things that aren't in my control. And when you factor in how many flights took off today and arrived at their destination safely...flying really is a safe form of travel.

Sorry but Obama claims that middle and lower class folks are more likely to use the money. So the tax cut goes to those below 75K for individuals and 150K for families so I hear. That's not really a stimulus. Those folks will need to pay off existing debts not spend more,. That money will go into the economy but not the same way. Moreover it's not even enough to make a difference. So comparing cost to benefit, it's not that big of a deal. I'd have preferred that money go to create jobs since unemployment insurance is extended.

Thank you so much Lauren. It's amazing how even when you live next to big cities like Buffalo it still feels like a small town when something tragic happens.

I just saw the 'Money Summit' promo on the commercials with Ali Velshi and Anderson Cooper. I love it. It took me all my self control not to burst out with "Bad boys bad boys..."

are you really surprised that republicans are at this point unwilling to be bipartisan with president obama?

i agree with mr. obama it will take some time to change washington, people just simply don't change overnight, especially if it is benefiting them not to.

My understanding of the $400.00 stimulus is that our taxes will be cut approximately $30.00 per month beginning in June. NO stimulus checks. Is this correct?

  31. Jo Ann, North Royalton, Ohio

EJ (USA), Mostly because I know he didn't read it and he is only voting the party line.

It is also a little "porky" for my taste ( I am a vegetarian)!

What does it mean when the House vote against the bill was more bipartisan than either the House or Senate vote for it? 7 Dems in the House voted against.

I've been waiting for the Joaquin Phoenix (Letterman) appearance to show up as the "shot" - that was one strange interview.

    February 13, 2009 at 10:38 pm |
  36. Stacy

Anderson, wait a minute. You anchored for hours in the middle of the night, flew to Washington and back, and are now anchoring your own show?! You and Blitzer, man, hardest working guys in the business. And a little nuts, if we're being honest.

    February 13, 2009 at 10:38 pm |
  37. Dave - NH

Michelle, people are really hurting, but this bill won't help anyone until at least 2010.

Radically decreasing employee withholding would help as soon as people's next paychecks, but no one's talking about that.

joaquin pheonix was so creepy on letterman the other night. I'm starting to think that this is a joke. If it is, it's not very funny.

If you make more than $75000 you get nothing? Surprise surprise... . What about those people who make a little more than that but not much more than that...we're penalized because we're not poor enough but we're not rich enough that this wouldn't matter.

    Joaquin is a douchebag.

If the bankers are lending, how there is crisis?

If the banks were lending, the credit market would not be locked, the economy was not entering negative spiral, the Obama Government would have making a plan for exactly the thawing credit market

I love the idea of paying them bonuses in stock that is vested after the loans are paid back, finally some incentive for the long haul instead of the next quarter. and the chance to cash in 166K in $5 stock turns into 1.666 milllion if they can get the stock back up to $50 a share.... I think thats part of the problem with big business not that they make money they need to to make jobs but making money in the next 3 months without concern about 5 years from now, classic shortsightedness

What about using that money for schools? Don't we need to improve education for the next generation?

evening all...first time on here. heard Anderson say he had hooked on and got me curious. prayers for all who lost last night. to randi kaye...i'm nervous flyer...don't ever really know the types of planes i'm flying on...but heard today that Porter Airlines – one of Ontario's new airlines flies them exclusviely – flew in for George Michael concert in summer to NYC...i was freaking out flying in a rain storm. but went anyway....when do you ever know? no answer.

Anderson, you are one of the smartest news personalities on TV. first you, then Obama....wish i was American times like these....

@Dave-NH: re: And sending us a check for $400 or $800 is a waste of time. That’s not going to change anything.

    I totally agree.

    February 13, 2009 at 10:36 pm |
  49. Ashley - Hamlin, NY

Jeesh Cooper. With all your frequent flier miles you should be able to own your own plane by now. Are you having trouble picking out the interior colors? Or do you just have your own reserved gold-plated seat?

I agree with you though – there is no point in freaking out over something you have absolutely no control with. We should all embrace the part of life we can have an impact on: helping others, compassion, and general kindness. Unless someone is trying to steal your taxi...then it's game on
