Cheney warns of new attacks

Former Vice President Dick Cheney warned that there is a “high probability” that terrorists will attempt a catastrophic nuclear or biological attack in coming years, and said he fears the Obama administration’s policies will make it more likely the attempt will succeed.

In an interview Tuesday with Politico, Cheney unyieldingly defended the Bush administration’s support for the Guantanamo Bay prison and coercive interrogation of terrorism suspects.

And he asserted that President Obama will either backtrack on his stated intentions to end those policies or put the country at risk in ways more severe than most Americans — and, he charged, many members of Obama’s own team — understand.

These are the same scare tactics used during the Bush administration that caused nothing but install fear in Americans when we had our first false "Amber" Alert and throughout the 8 years that have left our country in such ruin. In addition, it takes focus off of the financial workings that President Obama and Congress are working hard at getting right versus the first package that we now know had very few contingencies attached to it, and has ripped off the government and hard working American people off by their contractual oversights. This is the kind of commentary that has caused the entire world to loathe Americans. From Muslim extremists to our allies, we have broken the law and been laughed at by the world for it. Their ignorance rampantly layered itself upon itself so that only now, the truth is becoming transparent. Many Americans are only starting to understand the world's view of our country and it's policies while we were being Bushed and Chenied. Cheney is a sick and angry old man whose ideas failed, but is now trying to egg on the terrorists of the world that want to see Americans killed because of the hate the previous administration installed in them to start with. Thanks Dick, your not even in office but you've done it again. Again, you've presented to the world, your bigoted, illegal ignorance and financial stupidity without thinking of the rest of America first.

Just let Mr. Cheney stay in his little safe rich bubble, and let the real men, the men the really understand real people do their jobs.

I feel that the formal vice pres should keep his mouth closed due to the fact that when he was the vice he had his chance to help the us improve he just stayed out of the public eye and cause problems. I feel like he is the cause for the war over sees and not so much Pres Bush. We should have impeached the Vice after term number one. Now that they are out of the white house now he wants to have a say and nobody wants to hear it. I think that the FBI, CIA and all the above should look into his dealing with the war over sees.

I'm sure that this will not be printed on the blog as I am a lone conservative voice...this shows that I am much more open minded because I actually listen to both sides and am not blindly following one mindset. I am a registered nurse (have a higher education) and view myself as a moderate.I am willing to say what I think many people feel secretly but are afraid to admit publicly . If I have to choose between the safety and security of America and the rights of potential terrorists, I would choose the former over the latter in a heartbeat. I agree with Dick Cheney and hope and pray that his fears do not become a reality.

Do you remember how Richard Clark warned the Bush administration about an incoming terrorist attack before 9/11? Well, 9/11 happened under the Bush and Cheney watch. And now, here is Cheney, trying to teach the Obama administration how to defend this nation, which they so incompetently defended. One, by starting a war in the wrong place, which created more terrorism and antagonism for America. Two, by discrediting America's moral standing. Seriously, who is paying attention to the most discredited vice president in history?

I am not interested in anything Cheney has to say. I think he got us in that war to benefit his oil selling business friends. That is why he thought the Arabs would welcome us. His Arab friends are rich oil men.

I think Dick Cheney should start packing...
instead of imposing his anti-terror ideas that brought down our great country, he should get ready for

    1) getting indicted and convicted for some of the worst war crimes in modern history
    2) be accountable for all the money he generated indirectly and directly by his "friends at Hulliburton, Exxon etc.

I am pretty sure his compensation for under-the-table contracts he gave away all these years can feed millions of Americans for years.

Will we ever see people like him being accountable for all the bad things they do to people all over the world?

My goodness such hatred! Dick Cheney is smart enough to not have his head in the sand like you all do. Its easy to hurl insults. I'm sure you all agree with letting the terrorists out of Gitmo. Nobody wants us to get attacked again, but if that's what it takes for you all to get your heads out of the sand and realize these people want us dead and you can't just "talk" to them, then I'll be the first to tell all my liberal friends "I told you so." Why don't you guys talk about your Messiah and his lobbyists he wasn't supposed to have in his administration, the four appointees who don't know how to pay taxes–oh and why didn't we see Obama trying to exit through a window he thought was a door like we saw GW trying to go through a locked door. Maybe if he took his nose out of the air. He's got a swagger reminiscent of OJ Simpson.

It is easy to say that Dick Cheney is an arrogant fool who believes the
sky is falling. He has had access to every bit of information this
country has, but he seems to try to make it sound like he has personal knowledge that he can sell on a TV interview. If he has this
knowledge, has he shared with the current leaders of this country?
Or is he attempting to say the current administration is not as strong
and he and Pres. Bush were? The 9/11 attacks happened on their
watch. They have implemented policies and procedures that may or
may not have contributed to our safety since then. If he has any kind
of knowledge he should be sharing it p if not, he should stop giving
out his fear speeches on television.

Someone needs to remind Cheney he is no longer employed at WE THE PEOPLE. He should relax, catch up on a little reading of the 9/11 commission report or the CIA debriefings before 9/11 happened. Maybe some of his CEO friends will stop and they can all entertain one another counting their millions!!

Dick Cheney is so wrong...he has been wrong from the start....he said we would be greeted as liberators...wrong.
He said there might be a mushroom cloud...wrong.
He said Sadam had weapons of mass destruction....wrong.
He said there was no way we could have predicted 9/11...wrong..Richard Clark was trying like crazy to get them to listen to him when he was well aware of the chatter regarding the use of airplanes as weapons.
He said there was no way we could have predicted the economic crisis.....wrong....many economic experts did predict it.....in fact Obama predicted it and warned the Bush administration of it.
Now he says Obama wants to be nice to terrorists?
He is so wrong...no wonder he enjoyed the lowest approval rating of a VP ever!
Why is he even getting air time?

Hey – Chaney should be in jail not on AC360 or any other
news program – he is the neo-con personally responsible
for over 4000 American deaths in Iraq, missing millions
which lined the pockets of he and his friends, setting up
the torture of potentially innocent people -and a host of
other crimes – hopefully he'll be in jail someday where
    he belongs –

Dick Cheney should be in gauntanomo himself......... he and the former administration have not only taken our country against the Geneva Convention which the US helped write, they should be personally held responsible for ordering (errantly) with their lies about WMD's the deaths of 10's of thousands- they should be banned from any and all public service. In addition, they have feathered their own nests by their invasion of a sovereign country that had little if anything to do with 9/11..........and the resulting oil price manipulation and the deregulation of derivatives from oversight by the fed and states- which is at the bottom of the present financial crisis.

Go away and stay away.......you criminal and crook!

Cheney clearly wants an attack, would benefit from an attack and is determined to continue his play to the extremists.

Broadcasting to the world that all that is needed to bring us down is a terrorist attack seems to be playing right into their hands. It seems extremely self-serving and unpatriotic.

Don't we learn in elementary school not to wear our fears on our sleeve since broadcasting them generally brings them on.

But he clearly has the connections - in the corporate and clandestine worlds he plays in - to see his wish come true.

it is amazing that inthese times some of us (Dck Cheney) still want to revert to the old ways of conducting business (using fear to justify the means). It is 2009,the economic situation is affecting the world. This is a reminder that we need to change our ways of conducting business. It is a new day, a new dawn. Let's move on & work together. The Americans have spoken as to how they want their country to be lead. Get over it Mr. Cheney & be a part to the solution.

Maybe it's just me, but Cheney is really starting to resemble Mr. Burns from the Simpsons or Old Man Potter from "It's a Wonderful Life". He seems bitter that the Democrats have the audacity to win the White House and have a majority in the Congress... Wake up, it's a Democracy.... I wonder if the term Democracy, since it's sooo Democratic sticks in his craw... Maybe it's only a Republic after all?

Mr. Cheney believes the end justifies the means, but violating the Constitution in order to keep us safe takes every American over to Cheney's dark side. Suggesting that terrorists will try again doesn't seem very insightful, but suggesting it will be the fault of the Obama administration seems premature.

I agree with Annie Kate, Mr Cheney loved undisclosed locations during the past eight years, he should stay put in those very undisclosed locations he so loves. It is all about the fear for Mr. Cheney, keep the fear factor high. I was tired of that act a long time ago.

How can we believe what you say? You were on the ban wagon to find weapons of mass destruction just to take down Sadam Hussein who was not or did not represent the most immediate threat to the US following 911.

Also, how can the White House focus on major issues of priority ,
including defense , with the economy being in shabbles after your last eight years in office.

Your comments seek only to discredit the new President. I agree with one of the previious commenters, you only seek to create choas and fear. The threat of an attack is always there but this country cannot be paralyzed by your forebodings. Give the White House a Fair Chance!

Looks like Cheny's picture could use more blush. He is a catastrophe. As with the conspiracy surrounding JFK and his demise......hopefully we will not see powerful groups from our own country ,or linked to our own country, attack our country. Cheney knows the most powerful and lethal people and groups in the World. He himself is a threat to this country. Cheney does not want Peace. He, like many Republicans, want chaos. He, and his friends have made the most money in their lives as a result of the chaos of the last 8 yrs. Shame on him, W, and their allies of evil...........

Cheney should return to an undisclosed location.

Everytime I hear someone say Bush and Cheney kept us safe, I wonder where they were on 9/11 and just who they thought was President and Vice President at the time.

If you remember Clinton (1993 WTC bombing, perpetrator in prison now) Bush 2001 WTC bombing, no perpetrators in prison). Which way worked most efficiently, torture or court trials.

Cheney is an evil man, who wishes the worst for Obama and our Nation.

I will never forget the findings of the 9/11 Commission which found that the Bush administration refused to heed the intelligence reports in August and earlier, of an impending attack via U.S. airports!

The far-right keep insisting that Bush "kept us safe"....... but NO HE DID NOT!

It is hard to ignore someone who was first in line to be the leader of the free world. An individual who had access to classified information and in all likelihood advised the former President in decisions that could impact human life. So, I believe it is important to interpret former V.P. Cheney's remarks as inspiration to remain vigilant and not take lightly the threats made toward our nation. President Obama is no fool, he is aware and what I believe he will bring to national security is intelligent, rationale decision making. Take a deep breath Mr. Cheney, it will be ok.

We should really be looking at a staged attack from immitation Muslim extreists by Neo-Con Anti-American IDIOTS. theses racist and ignorant buffoons might just try something like this. Hitler remember predicated his invasion of Poland remember on a fake attack by Poles into German terrotory. Prisoners dressed in Polish uniforms were placed about and then shot to simulate this supposed 'invasion". I wouldn't put such a stunt beyond any of those conservative Morons that still support the Bush/Chenney/ Palin doctrines of hate and racsism to stir up an ignorant Red Nick minority.

Who is Dick Cheney to warn anyone of terrorist attacks?? In my eyes – he is a terrorist himself. Not only did he and his corrupt lying buddies sit back in hiding while terrorizing many inocent people in Muslim countries, justifiably according to HIM or not, he seemed to hide in a cave somewhere, just like Osama Bin-Laden, and watch our countrie's economy terrorize everyday people like myself... People he took an oath promising to defend. Kids are going without winter coats or shoes or a long sleeved shirt in the USA because their parents' can't afford to buy them, do you know any of those people?? I do, and they are terrorized every moment of the day because they don't know what the next day will bring except for less money. Mr. Cheney, you have no reason to say a word about terror, unless you are referring to your poor dear friend you shot while hunting!! We've seen Joe Biden twice as much as we ever saw you just in his first weeks of office. My advice, retire and keep your advice to yourself! That's all we ask!! Our country wishes to forget, not yet forgive, your "Vice-Presidency".

I really think the Repubs WANT the US to be attacked again. They want to try to justify their illegal wiretaps, illegal detention, illegal prisons, torture, all of their profits from their useless war in Iraq, etc., etc.

They don't care about Americans being killed or injured – what's a few thousand more deaths when they're responsible for so many deaths already.

The Republican Party is doing everything it can to block President Obama's efforts. Limbaugh's big mouth actually let the cat out of the bag. He is speaking the truth. The Republicans want Obama to fail. I don't know how Bin Laden could be any more evil than Bush and Cheney. What a bunch of sickos.
