He courts Republicans, gives them their tax cuts, but they don't vote for his bill, and then they say his plan won't work. And Dems stuff gobs of non-job-creating pork into the bill, give him lip about what they think should be done - standing tall upon their roughly 22% approval rating in the face of the President's 68% approval rating last week.

W. didn't put up with this. It was my way or the highway. He didn't compromise on his bills, and his team told GOPers to get in line, or pay for it later.

So even as his stimulus bill winds its way thru the legislative digestive system, some are saying President Obama looks weak as he plays nice and gets back a bunch of 'tude.

But a few say that he's playing a longer game - fulfilling his promise to change the tone and be president of all the people –and that he's building political capital, while some of those pushing back now look like self-interested naysayers.

What's your take - is Obama hitting headwind, or sailing around it?

Washington has been broken for eight years now. The President is doing exactly what he told the American People he would do. So give the President some time to change the political landscape.

Is everyone blind? Or would they rather not see what is in front of them? I havent seen anything on cnn about obama cutting the defense budget by 10% and why would he do that ? Maybe to pay for all the pork in this so called stimulus bill. Which couldnt really be called stimulus because its mostly liberal pet projects. I fail to see how std prevention will aid the economy or giving money to the arts. And you might think cutting the DEFENSE budget is a good thing but what about all the companies that rely on govt contracts? Wouldnt that cause more jobs to be cut? Whether you want it or not we are still involved in two wars with terrorists all over the world waiting for their chance to strike, cutting funding for the defense of America doesnt seem like the logical choice. Its time for Obama stop trying to make everyone happy and step up and be a leader. Talking things out only works in theory to people who dont realize how the world works. He needs to set a course and stay on it and not stopping everytime some one complains. And does anyone really believe that talking to Iran will stop them from making nuclear weapons? If you do im sorry for you because the first taget is Israel and the next? You guessed it the USA. But please continue to delude yourself with your false reality where every one holds hands and hugs. We will pay our debts with the blood of innocent americans and you know what? I wont even say i told you so

The Pelosi Job Stimulus Package....is pork and pay for play...and nothing should be rubbered stamped thru the House of Reps....if they had read it and fixed it....we would wouldn't be discussing it. It is not the 2nd bible...it's awful.

We talk about Ceo Bonuses....this is much worse. So let them hammer it out .....and let them take all the time they need. The sky is falling....the sky is falling doesn't work anymore. We heard that the last time and Obama and McCain both signed the first bailout.

He's winning, and getting stronger everyday. I never felt as proud to be an American as I did a week ago when President Obama gave his orders for the Freedom Of Information Act to now go into effect as well as hhis call for total transparency. I liked hearing this more than I did his victory speech in Chicago the nigt of his victory. I'm so in awe of this man!
A big approval rating from me. George Bush took away our 4th amendment in 2001. He put fear even into the congressmen to get his stupid spying tricks into action with his so called passing of the Patriot Act.. and, please, spare me from anymore comments that "W" kept us safe on his watch. Duh, I mean who in the hecks watch were we under when the towers fell? Wake up America. The saying is "IN God We Trust" , not in "In our Government We Trust!"

Americans need to learn patience. Obama did not get where he is by being stupid. I understand that after Bush, it's difficult to relate to a smart person, but you have to wait and see.

Give him a break. The man does not have a magic wander where he swing it and all problems will be solve. CNN did you ask this questions when Bush first came to power? Obama inherited bigger problem than any of us could have imagine. Do we all know what he is going through internally to see the country and the world is going down the drain? Things are getting so bad it is like we are falling and rolling down Mount Everett with a speed of 200 miles in a second. CNN please lay off Obama let him do the best he can. All of us in America are one step of pick slip and so are members of CNN. And to Obama keep away from this pork they will not get you any where. Listen People in the street. People will more on your side if you stop Nancy palosie and the democrat form infecting you with their virus of pork. If you did not listen to the American people your popularity will soon fad fast.

President Obama is winning the trust of the people and showing he's doing what he promised that he was going to reach across party lines and look out for all American and not those who voted for him or just the democrats.

What he failed to realized is that the old white boys club are selfish, greedy, outdated and cares only for themselves and their good old boys. He didn't realize that with the country falling apart that greed would override pitching in to help save all of us rather than some of us.

He didn't know that as he works to unify the country, the GOPs and some democrats would continue to fight to keep America divided and gloat over their ability to stop his stimulus to promote their own greed.

So yes, President Obama is winning, too bad the GOP and some dems are losing and fighting to make sure we Americans continue to lose.

Well Obama and Washington Elites are winning. The only looser in all this is the workers of America. Change has not come to America, he already broke his on ethics policy, you think he will not do the same thing to a bill or a relationship with other countries if Mr. Superman does not get his way. I think not.

Now! Mr.President is winning he must continue to stay focused on the issues at hand. Sir, Congress must have an open mind to our present problems. If we as a nation Fail to reset our economy within two-years there's a good chance it may crash.

I think the stimilus package should be around 4.5 trillion dollars. Why?
Because if this stimilus package doesn't work the United States and other Ecocomics may not recover.

Think Obama is hoisting the lines and docking his ship ! No dings docking ! Don't flip the ship and balance for fairness ! He'll listen to the ones that don't agree with him ! No wake !

He needs the courage to go against the grain, stand up and do what is right. Bring our troops home from all over the world and stop spending. We need to take some tough medicine and let the free market manage this situation. The government can't fix this no matter how much they try.

I think the president is doing great fro the short time he has been in office. Since none of the Republicans did not sign on for the stimulus package after he reached out to him he should put back the things he took out. I would like to see more infrastruture put into the package. I would also like to see Main street get money to help pay for their mortgages and cars. I never seem to see any of the tax cuts that we have had over the years. Twelve dollars is not a lot of money. We need help now!!!!

The only way to solve these problems is for young people to run for office and get rid of all this oldies in Congress and the house. I see them on TV and can not believe these people are making decisions for our future?

This is a horrible question to ask in the beginning of a presidency. President Obama is doing a great job. He has covered several issues in a week and a half. I think its fantastic that he is not sitting still. As far as the stimulus package goes, I think its a step in the right direction. He is in there cleaning up a mess left by a stand still lame duck president. Lets ask this question maybe half way through the first 4 years instead of two weeks in. I think we are pretty lucky to have someone in there to try to fix this country. I cant imagine ever wanting to take that job.

I believe President Obama is winning, the way the House Republican voted against the stimulus bill is saying to the American people we are not concerned about your welfare or how this country can move forward. President Obama has to remember one thing with God all things are possible. A word for you Republican, God said that He would make your enemies your footstool so keep during what you are doing and President Obama and the American people will begin to walk on you.

It is hard to say if Mr. President Barack Obama is winning or losing, because he is trying to get republicans and democrats to work together. I do believe that these parties should set aside there differences and understand that we have elected them to make this country a better place, but these people will never understand because they dont have to live in the after affects of the mess they have caused. Know is not the time to see if he is winning or losing, But he does need HELP!

With all due respect to President Obama, the "olive branch" he wants to continue to extend is the wrong strategy when we are at war. War on the recession requires a strong battle and only when victory is near due you extend an "olive branch."

Obama is winning. His stimulus plan passed in the House without any Republican votes. With his new advertising and grassroots campaigns, he's likely to get at least a few Republican votes in the Senate. His stimulus package is good for America and, which is will prove in its action. When it does, Obama will be vindicated among his current naysayers. He is a canny politician and a dedicated public servant all in one. He will succeed.

Timothy Geithner has a tax issue..makes good on it after he gets caught. Tom Daschle has a tax issue..makes good on it after he gets caught. The President does not pull these nominations. How is this change?

As long as the bullies are not in charge..... Obama is winning. I believe he is running his next election campaign already, delivering on his promises, to the extent that he is allowed, being bipartisan and leading by example. Has the human race become so skeptical that we cannot recognize true leadership when it is right in front of us?

Don't think for 1 minute that Barack Obama is going to put UP with the BS the GOP and opposing Dem's are trying to pull. He's a good man and we aren't used to having somebody in charge to stick up for WE THE PEOPLE.....

The House GOP's should be ashamed of themselves for none of them voting for Barack's Stimulus Package, but, of course what do they care? They are going to get their pay checks, on schedule and their Health Insurance is fully covered, while in office and they will be able to collect their retirement checks, after they are out of office and get Soc. Security, when the time comes. So Screw WE THE PEOPLE...

It will be fun to see how many of them are re-elected when their next time comes.....
