I just turned 50 and have worked in semiconductors all my life. This industry is leaving in America. Why bailout banks and not industry? How am I going to be helped by the stimulus? I am too old to build bridges and too young to retire. Both my spouse and I are on expensive medical treatment and can't afford COBRA.

Ha ha ha ha. I KNEW Anderson would see that Obama/Beyonce Single Ladies video! Called that one, I did. 🙂

I have to admit I am stuck on that song as well. It is infectuous. Check out the soundtrack to Slumdog, it is awesome!

3% Government refinancing for all primary dwelling home owners with no fees.

Keep the tax breaks... (How will we generate enough money to repay our national debt if we reduce taxes??)

Encourage purchase of 'Made in America' goods.

No bailout for banks, Ins. companies or the Auto industries. (If we have money in our pockets, we'll buy their cars, take out insurance, save our extra cash, etc.)

Keep republicans out of Government in the future.

The President doing Beyonce's song. HA! I saw the video on youtube earlier today. Funny. The spoof of her video on SNL was funny with Justin Timberlake.

Regarding today's stimulus package; I'm a fiscally conservative democrat and a big fan of President Obama. The current bill has content that has no business being in there. The business as usual Democrats should know that there are lots of people like me who are just barely happier with them than we were with the neo-cons that just left office. President Obama has a mandate, but their politics-as-usual don't. Message to Dems? You have a great opportunity to make real change; don't blow it!

I made $40,000 last year, thats 'bout 28,800 take home. Would someone please devise a plan where I can donate $2000 to the executives of AIG. Give $750 to GM and Ford. Spend $1000 for the iraq war. I would also like to send some to Obama for woowing the republicans. Can I give $1200 to national health care to take care of those that eat at McDonalds everyday and don't work or exersize? I know that the good folks in washington are smarter than I and heck my family can do without a vacation for a few years anyway.
America I beg you to fire them all!!

With that report card, the economy is grounded.

The national science foundation, studing anatomy. I think it's something of a no no to be surfing porn at work but did that guy have to get fired? Couldn't they have disciplined him?

Megan, will some of those laid off be able to go back to work at some point? Will they be called back? I hope the dreamliner goes fully into production.

Mike in Syracuse, I thought the stimulus checks last yr did have some effect on the economy, maybe prevented some more slippage in growth. I don't think you can count the 700B as stimulus, that was a bank bailout, a rescue in essence.

Wow! Is anyone else appalled by this report? I have a hard time putting my head back and closing my eyes for a couple minutes when I'm on company time. But when the taxpayers are paying your salary?

Ok so I can understand the legality of the whole peanut butter thing but they are opening themselves up to a huge amount of civil liabilities because they knowingly sent out a bad product that would hurt people. I've never understood why companies do that.

    Anderson,
    1. I want to understand why Republicans are now concerned about spending when for the last eight years they have spent billions of dollars on a war in Iraq that never should have started.
    2. I also want to understand why it always seems okay to help out the large corporations, the finance companies, the rich, but its a terrible thing, "socialism." when money is spent towards trying to help the people in desperate need at this time.
    3. I especially want to understand why the U.S. continues to send Israel millions of dollars every day when our own citizens are without jobs, losing their homes, have no health care, and are in terrible despair. Yet, we send them money we do not have instead of helping our own taxpaying citizens. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY WRONG!

Why do you guys have to keep showing porn graphics? My 8 year old is wondering in and out of the room... It is 7:41 pm on the west coast.. Please....and then the story about that preachers sex life.. is this news? Who cares? I love the political stories but have to switch the channel when the other stories involving porn and sex come on – especially all the graphics and graphic language about sex and porn...

i want to know why they keep giving money to the millionairs for bailouts to help the economy,we are the economy,we work hard everyday pay taxes ect. why cant they give each tax payer example 30,000 dollars, people would buy things like cars, homes ,clothing, and if you ask me that would start jump starting the economy and help banks for the ones to choose to put it the bank,i just find it hard to believe the gov keeps giving to the wealthy and we work hard for what to hope we can house and feed our children, please tell me how you find justice in that.!!!

The Republicans are acting like children – all lining up and voting one way without showing any individualism, all while Rome burns. More jobs are being lost daily throughout American. How can any of these people without jobs be so concerned about tax cuts. They are virtually without income.

We actually have computer software that can detect any sort of porn being surfed or for that matter anything being surfed by anyone at the said employment!

So maybe our Governement and all other places who are given our money should be assured of this type of software so that we are aware of what exactly they are doing while on the clock!

It can be done and it is not that expensive!

Stimulus money for Electronic Medical Records in our hospitals?

    Next steps?

I am a health care technology executive eager to move on this - it will save us billions per year...

I'm surprised about the Medical part of the stimulus package. It includes alot of money for Medicaid and I like that. Workers, who are out of work, would be eased to know they can still get good health care while they are trying to go to work.

Will the porn surfing employees be required to return their paychecks back to the government? I think we'd get a treasure trove of money come back into the piggy bank.

I trust Obama but I am concerned about this $825B.

I support true stimulus- govt spending on infrastucture to turn economy around. But I am concerned that house democrats view this as their big chance to spend on everything that's been blocked for the past 8 years. Is Obama in charge or Peloisi?

If this is perceived as just big spending without discipline or focus on real stimulus, Obama will forfeit all the political capital he has in store. Then the battles will be just like they have been the past 8 yrs.

What did the LAST stimulas plan do? I didn't get any of it, We lost our Burger King,Donught Shop,Chineese resturant, & They are talking about givng I.O.U.'s what would happen if we sent the State & Federal Government I.O. U.'s because we don't have any money?

Surfing porn at work?! You wouldn't believe how common that is!! If you want to surf porn, do it at your residence on your own time! The taxpayer has to pay for enough, don't you think?!

Unbelievable! What kind of people are we hiring to work in our government? This is why nothing gets done in this country. They should be feeding their porn habit on their own time.

Hi Erica: With the loss of jobs where they are at today, I'm surprised there are those who have the guts to watch porn at work! Makes upper management look like fools! They need to tighten up security on those work computers to stop people from even going to those websites to begin with.

I support obama but this plan shows the pork barrel spending that Mccain was talking about i have a question how many people are american citizens? how much is the stimulis package? Divide how much money by how many people and start handing out the checks this economy will be stimulated. I can see it now forecloser rates drop, banks get there money back with interest and the big three sell enough cars that they have to give back there loans because there gonna make it after all.

I appreciate the need to help the US get out of this declining economy.
Something needs to be done. Massive Free money will help.

What I miss in reading the bill is where does it say the materials for the roads, bridges, computers, 2st1 century class rooms, smart electric distribution systems have to be MADE IN USA at leaast a percentage of the materials. Is it not important to invest the 'New Deal' money within the USA manufacturing sector?

The other important area I see missing is the help for Joe Saver. Joe who works, pays his taxes, invests, and saves his money in commercial banks via savings accounts and CD's. Where the money goes to pay for Mary's mortgage and Charle's car loan. What does Joe Saver get from the $885 Billion Dollars other than a saving interest of 1%? What don't Joe get a special interest rate say a Bailout Rate or a New Deal Rate where more Americans save to help shore up the US banks the old fashion way, they save it!

At some point many years form now when I am hopefully sitting around the table with my grandchildren and great grandchildren and they ask why did the US Government spend so much money in 2009, how do I answer that?

I'm pretty disappointed at Candy C rowley's characterization of the stim bill vote as the Republicans not wanting to "roll over". While I would like to see acleaner bill, and hope that one will come out of the Senate and Conference, the real question is whetehr or not Republicans are willing to bend a little on failed policy approaches or not. Seems they want to play to the hardliners back home, to the detriment of the greater good.

What are all these comments about rich? What is rich in this country??I don't know where you live but a family of 4 is not rich on 250K where I live. You are making this class warfare. Who do think will pay for this package? We will and our kids will and on and on. This is just big spending...how about some accountibilty and taking responsibilty for not taking care of these things in the first place? This also sounds like BOs way of getting his agenda pushed through. Time will tell. But I ask who will fill the construction jobs to build our roads, repair our schools?? I am not sure either how 50 million to the arts and 150 to the Smithsonian stimulates the economy?

ok the 168 billion proved tax cuts dont stimulate the economy effectively the 700B proved that richfare is more expensive than welfare This will put money in the economy. anyone that disagrees with non federal tax paying people (ssi only)gettin a tax rebate needs to know were overpaying social security by about 20% the illusive trust fund that doesnt exist, there are just theoretical federal bonds there, so we are overtaxing those undder 100k to give lower rates to those above 250k, or at least we were, oh- bah- ma is going to correct that so think twice before you slander him. The whole social security PONZIE is just another example of republican rich fare, its currently set u to take from the masses and give to the rich WAKE UP

  49. Kevin - Alaska

The GOP is bunch of phoney's. All I have heard for the past eight years is tax cuts, tax cuts, tax cuts. The top 1% have gained the most with all of these past tax cuts, yet we have examples of the result such as this past "Bloody Monday" with the lost of 70,000 jobs. The working class have paid their dues and it is now time for the "working poor" to reap some of the benefits. Corporate Execs and Investors have been the ones who have gained these past eight years. It is time to reverse this trend. Also we need passage of the EFCA. The President needs the opportunity to see if his policy/plan will work. If the GOP wants to vote against his plan, let them and pass it without their input.
