    hi all,
this economy is starting to really irritate!

I'm not out of work, but hey, I just learned that i got a whopping 4 (!) hrs of work next week, although my managers tell me, our store is doing well!

And my college tells me, I don't qualify for financial aid cuz I make too much money!!!

Yes I would like to know if we as the taxpayers can we celebrate too??

    I think not!!!

Is Obama just another sorry excuse of a President?

Too bad President Obama forgot that he was elected by the people who want change and don't trust our government. The republicans and congress are still full of the same old geezers who are too old to change, too self involved to care about their constiuents and so petty that they refused to look beyond the next election. I guess people losing their homes, insurance and faith in the system means nothing to these unspeakable people.

EJ and Pati, I'm with you, imagine what a nation-wide cocktail party would do for confidence in President Obama! 🙂

I know we need the stimulus, but I'm one of those that want the government smaller, not bloated to the max. I hope it helps the people who need it the most. We've wasted enough money so far.

Can the US Gov't use part of the $350 Billion Tarp to lend directly to small businesses and other corporations at low rates. Also, refinance troubled and high interest mortgages for Americans. Both Americans at home and at work by helping companies retain employees. What is lost in the unemployment numbers is that these are good, hard-working employees.

    Good evening everyone...
I look forward to reading everyone's thoughts tonight 🙂

Good GOD the worst bill since the last bad stimulus was passed! OMG that is way too scary to me!

    January 28, 2009 at 10:06 pm |
  9. Belinda

Mike in NY, you're not taking into account the tax cuts in that calculation. 🙂

    hey everyone.

We need to support the President. This is a test of confidence. Having all Republicans not supporting the stimulus package doesnt look too good. Republican policy is exhausted – 8 yrs is enough. time to move on!

I have to admit, I sincerely appreciate Press Secretary Gibbs. I feel like he is very effective at his job and seems good at it thus far.

I'm kind of digging the silver tie tonight, by the way.

I think the GOP is slowly digging a hol for themselves. It's like they're five year olds who have their arms crossed and aren't getting their own way so they are picking up their marbles and going home.

President Obama and the liberals didn't "win" today. No one can "win" with this economic crisis.

Hundreds of millions of this 'stimulus' isn't stimulus. Food stamps, money to schools, and unemployment extensions won't stimulate anything.

  13. Marium, New Jersey

    Good evening!

I can see why Republicans didn't support it because the bill went against their beliefs. But you have to spend some money, and in other places than the rich, to make some money.

  14. Sharon

Good evening all! So what can we say was actually fixed in this stimulus bill?

    January 28, 2009 at 10:05 pm |
  15. Tracy Brown - Ontario Canada

I think it's unfortunate that the package didn't get more widespread support.

You know, President Obama can only do so much. If the GOP doesn't want to be bipartisan, they won't. Nothing Obama can do will change that.

    January 28, 2009 at 10:04 pm |
  19. CaseyJ - Palm Springs, CA

I completely understand this bill not being popular because nobody has the asnwers–nobody knows what is going to happen. But we can't just sit and do nothing for working class and middle class Americans. In the broader picture, I think voting against this will send a negative message to the public, whether the perception is negative now or years from now when Republicans could be acused of being "un-American".

  20. Michelle Brown in Los Angeles - Love Obama

    Hi All

Good Democrates. Nice to see that at least your "family" has your back.

The Republicans now can not take credit when this works. Republicans are on a downward spiral to ruining their party; non -inclusive, deceitful, SP,

    Congratulations PRESIDENT Obama!

Holy geez! I read the Evening Buzz about the guys at NSF surfing porn at work. Man, I don't surf for porn at *home*!

Well, okay, I look at the occasional humorous thing sent by a friend, but at work? No way!

LisaL....that's right, only time will tell. Though I must say that I am a bit skeptical since the first one did next to nothing for our economy.

  25. Kathy, Chicago

So AC, who's paying for the cocktail party? Does Obama's ace economic group have any say in the programs listed in the stimulas package?

Hey, everyone! I'm still trying to wrap my head around the concept of 819 billion anythings.

Republicans need to swallow their pride. Obama's stimulas package is a great idea.

Let’s give that money to businesses that are succeeding financially, instead of those that are failing.

These successful entities seem better poised to help the economy and our citizens. They are positioned to give credit and create new jobs. And, we would be rewarding success instead of failure. To me, this seems a wise way to invest. And it would be popular with the voters and leaders who worry about the risk that the money spent will not benefit the economy. Investing in financially successful companies seems wise to me.

Why wouldn't we do this? Is it too late to make a significant change like this?

Economic plan approved! Infrastructure, education, energy efficiency, tax incentives and retain unemployment, generating up to 4 million jobs.
Obama celebrated its first major legislative victory.

    Anderson, I ask:
and we can celebrate, too? And we will feel the improvements?

    January 28, 2009 at 10:03 pm |
  31. Mindy

Well, I must say that I am not surprised that not one Republican voted for Obama's stimulus plan. Bipartisanship, my foot! He even tried to compromise to get them to vote for it. He should have just gone ahead and done what he wanted to do.

I hope the Senate can do better. But I am not optimistic. There is simply too much at stake to play the same old game of politics.

    January 28, 2009 at 10:03 pm |
  32. Mike, Syracuse NY

$819 billion for 3 million jobs means each job costs about $275,000 each. It would seem we should get a lot more jobs for the money doesn't it?

    Happy hump day!

I have to say, I do not understand the Republicans, they have been on a "I like Obama, but" tour. What they fail to understand is that President Obama won not because of his smile, but his ideas and what he can do in office. Are they trying to lose the rest of their seats?

Just like every other American I have my questions too regarding this “stimulus” plan. The goals of the plan seem to be very pro-active with good intentions of improving this country…but what i worry about are the guidelines this plan should follow. Can a simple oversight panel really control lobbyist influence or the transparency of usage?

    January 28, 2009 at 10:02 pm |
  41. Megan Dresslar - Shoreline, WA

I agree with you MaryBeth...... I can't believe either!

Good evening Anderson, Erica and fellow bloggers! What a day!

Well we knew that the stimulus package was going to pass and the republicans weren't gonna like it much but I must say that it makes me chuckle a little that not a single republican voted for the bill!
