Amusing moment in today’s Senate Armed Services committee, Gates admitted that his procrastination on key decisions came back to bite him when he ended up staying on.
“As I focused on the wars these past two years, I ended up punting a number of procurement decisions that I believed would be more appropriately handled by my successor and a new administration. Well, as luck would have it, I am now the receiver of those punts – and in this game there are no fair catches,” Gates noted.

I just wanted to gaze in my crystal ball and make a quick prediction on the future of Iraq.
The Iraqi government is incompitent. When the US leaves the Iraqi government will be overthrown in a coup orchestrated by the Iraqi Army (IA). The Iraqi Army will yield absolute power which will proceed to corrupt them absolutely.
One IA general will seize power and proceed to rule in a manner similar to Sadam Hussein.
They will be completely free to launch a new ground war against Iran and a new Civil War against the Kurds who they view as Iranian proxys.
Just a prediction, we will see. In case you can't tell I am not optimistic about the future of Iraq after a US pullout.
Free prediction its worth what you paid for it.
It is refreshing to hear someone in government so truthful.
I almost feel sorry for him. Procrastination is so easy to do and usually self-defeating. The chore you put off today becomes bigger and takes more time when you finally have to do it. I hope Gates can take care of his issues hastily and that by putting the procurements off it does not disadvantage our military in the field.
