Morning Buzz: Oprah for Senator

For a guy facing an impeachment trial, he sure isn’t taking the subtle route today. I’m talking about Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich who said this morning in an interview that he was considering offering Oprah Winfrey the empty US Senate seat vacated by Prez Obama.

The reason he is in trouble to begin with is because of allegations that he was trying to sell the Senate seat to the highest bidder. Rod sure knows how to make a headline, maybe we should offer him a writing position on the show. KIDDING!

Blagojevich’s impeachment trial is happening in Illinois today, though he is spending the day doing media rounds instead of attending the trial.

President Obama is overturning a Bush Administration environmental policy by giving California and 13 other states a green light to set their own auto emission standards. The Bush Administration had denied them permission to impose tougher standards than the federal clear air act required because they thought creating another set of rules regarding pollution standards for some states would be confusing and difficult to enforce.

President Obama also meets with economic advisors today to shore up support for his $825 billion economic stimulus plan. Republicans want to see more tax cuts in this plan and question whether govt spending will revive the economy. Obama’s admin wants to inject money directly into the economy to pump it up and create more jobs.

A house vote is expected on Wed and if Dems are united they could pass the bill because they’ll have a large enough majority, even without GOP backing, though Prez Obama is trying to gain bi-partisan support.

Tom Foreman looks at a recent study which documents what some researchers are calling an "Obama Effect" resulting in higher test scores among black people of all ages after being exposed to President Obama.

A performance gap that existed between black and white test-takers disappeared when the test was given immediately following Prez Obama's convention speech and after Election Day. The author of the study says exposure to such a positive black role model resulted in higher scores among black students. We’ll tell you more tonight.

See you at 10pet!

    FYI -

Last week a Chicago radio station offered Blago his own radio show if he would resign as Gov. of IL.

What many people outside the State of IL don't realize is that his approval rating was around 13 percent in November - before the selling of the senate seat allegations were ever made public. There was talk of impeachment over the summer. (The sale of the senate seat is only 1 of 13 counts against him.) He has not had the support of the people of IL for a long time. I'm just mad, as are many residents of the state of IL, over how he's dragging the state through the mud while he performs as ring master in his own circus.

Blago is a narcissist in the truest sense of the word. Using his own name in the same sentence as Mandela and Gandihi shows how delusional he really is.

Why is this guy still running around the country completely free and doing whatever he wants, not answering to anybody??? What kind of leadership is this? He is supposed to be in court and instead he decided he wanted to be on tv talk show to claim his innocence. If he is so damn innocent, why does is not go to court and state his case with whatever dignity he has left? If he wasn't guilty of something, he would not have been accused. This is obsurd, an absolute embarassment to the citizens of this great country.

I think we will see a stimulus package sooner rather
than later. The house will pass the stimulus this
Wednesday and then it is on to the Senate. Just look
at the job cut announcements from today alone.Pesident
Obama won because of this campaign polices not the
Repubs polices. So why would he even go there.

I am a Canadian who keeps CNN turned on all day. You guys are so lucky. In such dark times, you have Obama for inspiration and Blagojevich for entertainment.

Seeming as the Illinois junior Senate seat is now reserved for blacks in perpetuity, I guess anything goes.

That's what I'm talking about. I've been saying SINCE FOREVER that positive role models will change things for Black people. Black people have never been less intelligent than white people ... but being beat down (physically/mentally) for yrs and yrs makes people NOT believe in their own amazing abilities. As a matter of fact, it makes people unaware that they have amazing abilities. President Obama just issued a wake up call to his people. Amen.

It seems that Blago is going to milk his 15 minutes of fame as long as he can before he gets the boot from the governors office! To be making the media rounds and not attending his own impeachment trial just shows how really stupid that he is!

I knew that Obama would have major problems getting his stimulus package passed. From what they are saying none of the Republicans are behind it and there are even Dems against it! Obama acts like he wants to be bi-partisan but when anyone brings up any ideas he shoots it down unless it's from his own party. He is just all talk!

OMG...the "Obama Effect" is just ridiculous!! Either you know the answers or you don't or you perform well or you don't! Having him elected doesn't automatically make people know stuff that they didn't before! Come on!! You all are giving Obama way too much credit! He is not a God or anything!! Give me a break!!
