For a guy facing an impeachment trial, he sure isn’t taking the subtle route today. I’m talking about Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich who said this morning in an interview that he was considering offering Oprah Winfrey the empty US Senate seat vacated by Prez Obama.
The reason he is in trouble to begin with is because of allegations that he was trying to sell the Senate seat to the highest bidder. Rod sure knows how to make a headline, maybe we should offer him a writing position on the show. KIDDING!
Blagojevich’s impeachment trial is happening in Illinois today, though he is spending the day doing media rounds instead of attending the trial.
President Obama is overturning a Bush Administration environmental policy by giving California and 13 other states a green light to set their own auto emission standards. The Bush Administration had denied them permission to impose tougher standards than the federal clear air act required because they thought creating another set of rules regarding pollution standards for some states would be confusing and difficult to enforce.
President Obama also meets with economic advisors today to shore up support for his $825 billion economic stimulus plan. Republicans want to see more tax cuts in this plan and question whether govt spending will revive the economy. Obama’s admin wants to inject money directly into the economy to pump it up and create more jobs.
A house vote is expected on Wed and if Dems are united they could pass the bill because they’ll have a large enough majority, even without GOP backing, though Prez Obama is trying to gain bi-partisan support.
Tom Foreman looks at a recent study which documents what some researchers are calling an "Obama Effect" resulting in higher test scores among black people of all ages after being exposed to President Obama.
A performance gap that existed between black and white test-takers disappeared when the test was given immediately following Prez Obama's convention speech and after Election Day. The author of the study says exposure to such a positive black role model resulted in higher scores among black students. We’ll tell you more tonight.
See you at 10pet!
