I think Blagojevich is going for the "insanity" plea. It just might work!!

I question the wisdom of additional help for the large financial institutions. Don't you think one of the big problems is that we've all decided not to spend money we don't have...that means we don't need as much of that credit? If I survive this, I plan to pay off my debt and pay cash for what I need or not buy it! Also, you know there are some banks around that aren't in trouble. I spoke with an employee of a small (10 banks) midwestern banker that survived the Great Depression and is still very healthy now.

For Suze Orman: I will finish my master’s degree in May 2009. I have $80,000 in student loans. What is the best and fastest way to repay student loans?

Find a really high paying job.

Anderson, please cover more on the stimulus package and please press the new administration to start at the core of the problem, with homeowners. They don't seem to get it or they are choosing to look the other way. If there's anyone that can get the new administration to relook at this huge issue it's CNN.

In regards to the first segment, I do not think landscaping our national monuments is quite on par with a $35,000 toilet! Economic stimulus is going to involve some public projects, like painting libraries and building highways. Someone has to get paid to do the work, and that's creating jobs, isn't it?

Hello to all. Anderson, thanks to you and your great crew and guests for keeping us intelligently up to date while things are moving so fast. Hope we can give Obama a chance and the much needed time. Also hope the entire country pitches in to do our part. We need alot of patience, prayer, and faith. My fiance and I bought our first home in 2008. We qualify for the $7500 First Time Homebuyer tax credit, but are not sure if we should take it. We have a mortgage of $92k, car loans of $30k, no credit card debt, and student loans of $30k. We were thinking of taking the credit to add some improvements to our home. What do you think we should do? Thank you Suze, we love you!

Any cash Americans receive and spend would probably just benefit China, since all of us are now reduced to shopping at Walmart/Target/Kmart...

Buy American... shop at thrift stores! It's the green thing to do.

The Economy is even starting to Tank here in Canada.

I live in the Northwest Territories even our Diamond mines are laying people off.
Exploration is slow which of course ripples thru our northern economy.
We went from Boom to Bust very quickly.

It been said, the more you learn the more you earn. With college cost being what they are what is a parent to do?

Should we refinance the house to put the kids in college. The fact is we make to much money for our children to qualify for aid. In state tuition room and board at the university of vermont is 24,000 per year.

I just don't see jobs in the future that justify the debt parents and students are taking on

    What do you say susiei

Michigan has over 10% unemployment and that's not counting the people that have dropped off the rolls – people losing their homes and plants closing.

if banks and credit cards don't get brought under control, they'll bankrupt the people of the US and they'll be the last men standing – glad THEY ARE the ones getting cheap loans and billions – strike that – trillions without any accountability.

We need executive action to stop this madness.

there's alot of talk about the economy these days I just want to know why did congress aprove the automotive stimulus package when they could of just given the money to elderly citizens over 62 therefore opening up 15 million new jobs for the new generation.

Sorry, my computer froze...Lori, thanks for giving us the word directly from IL again–I was unaware of that development. It tells us he's in serious trouble; that's what it tells us–and didn't his wife just lose her job? If it weren't for those two little girls, I'd say fine, let them file for unemployment like everybody else, but I worry about their two little ones. They didn't ask for this nonsense.

Lori from IL It always seems to me that when Illinois politics heat up like you say, the governor appears to have a case.

Ashley, I was impressed with Gov. Paterson's appointment of Kirsten Gillanbrand too. What caught my attention, along with her solid legisatlive experience as I learned about in the press conference where Paterson announced her appt, was that she worked in Hillary Clinton's senate campaign. That would be good exp. for someone being appointed Clintons senate seat.

For Suzie– Question concerning about paying my mortgage down faster by using an ALOC (like a HELOC) and doing the scheduled payments required to pay on the principle of the mortgage. It is like saving tons of intrest over the long term of the loan. I have seen two types of these but I am very nervous about doing soething like this and does it really work and are there any hidden cost involved? Thanks for any imput

  39. Chris Melendrez

    Suze,

My wife and I are doing everything right, we pay all of our bills on time, have never missed a mortgage payment or car note. The problem is we have no room to save. We have cut out everything we can, no eating out, no movies (even rentals), down to one cell phone as my wife is no longer employed.

In our position does it even make sence to continue to try and pay our mortgage each month as we do not qualify for a loan mod unless we miss more than 3 months. It seems as if we are being punished for doing all the right things; no break for those who are doing the same. What do we do...?

David I agree that Obama's week has been flawless - no one could do better than him. Everyone I know is still in disbelief that we actually have a leader that is intelligent, powerful in his presence, and gives us hope. People are mesmerized that he is actually in office –can't get enough of him and I believe he will make considered decisions to the best of his intelligent ability. Such love and gratitude on people's faces and its like we can breathe easy for awhile. The nay sayers will tear him down - and he will make some mistakes, but it doesn't matter because no one else can do the job like he can. His worst is George Bush's best.

    David,

Your presence on A360 is A+. Thanks for the wisdom you have been sharing with us. President Obama was hired by us because we decided he can handle the job. He is doing very well so far and i hope the republicans wil reach out back to him. No time to waste, no time for the old childish and divisive ways.

My daughter is in the redemption period before foreclosure. She got a short sale offer on her home, accepted by the first mortgage company. She has a second mortage and that company refused to alow the sale. While she's still in redemption, they sold her mortgage to a credit collection company who is putting a judgement against her. Can they do that before she's foreclosed on? Can a mortgage company sell the mortgage to a collection firm?

My wife and I have accumulated a 25,000 credit card debt over the past year (major home improvement project) we transfered the debt to an interest free credit card, and have a plan to pay it off within the next 8 months. should we stay the course and pay down this debt, or would it be smarter to make minimum payments and save the money in case of job loss, given the current economy.
