Problems involving taxes and a household employee surfaced during the vetting of Caroline Kennedy and derailed her candidacy for the Senate, a person close to Gov. David A. Paterson said on Thursday, in an account at odds with Ms. Kennedy’s own description of her reasons for withdrawing.

The account emerged 14 hours after Ms. Kennedy announced that she was taking her name out of contention for the Senate seat vacated by Hillary Rodham Clinton, and as Mr. Paterson appeared to be leaning toward selecting Representative Kirsten E. Gillibrand, an upstate lawmaker in her second term in Congress.

Hard feelings toward Ms. Kennedy were clearly building among the governor’s staff on Thursday, after a dramatic evening in which she was reported to be dropping out, then wavering, then ultimately, shortly after midnight on Thursday, issuing a statement ending her candidacy.

I adored JFK. I'd run home from high school to hear and see his televised press conferences, He and RFK were truky great men.

But those with the Kennedy arrogance and sense of entitlement because of their name make me sick.

She is no better qualified for the Senate seat than I am. Then it turns out she (like the arrogant Joe Kennedy) has not paid FICA for her household staff. She is worth multiple millions. The Kennedy family in general are elitists who live above the law, lest we forget Teddy and Mary Joe Kopeckne – what a travesty of justice that was!

Let Caroline go away with her head between her legs and stay in Long Island. Oh, and she needs to pay the FICA and Medicare for her "servants."

Geeesh..........regarding Caroline Kennedy and those like her....we hear this story over-n-over....is there some exclusive club for *wealthy* families, politicians, hollywood stars, and entertainment industry people which allows them to hire illegals as Nanny's, housekeepers and personal attendants whose green cards expire as we've heard so frequently in the news?.......which they offer no employment benefits to NOR pay taxes on their salaries?

Don't they realize if they hire an American, they'd be helping the economy by putting someone back to work.....as we all know full-time childcare a.k.a. Nanny's doesn't come cheap. They could be helping support an American family.

I realize this article is sketchy at best, but.... it seems to me like a lot rich folks have problems with taxes and household employees...How is it that it's always the taxes and household staff???? Seems like a lot of you hire ILLEGAL immigrants... basic criminals as they broke the law to come in to the country, IMHO.

Like, why cant you rich folks hire AMERICANS to clean your houses for you? Americans to mow your lavish lawns and clean yer winders? Are they priced too high? Are they too lazy? Dont do efficient enough work? Whats the deal?

    Hopefully, I'm wrong.

She should have known from the start that this position is for someone who has AT LEAST ONCE ran and WON an office of some kind. No one DESERVES this seat unless they have been vetted by the public.

ALSO – That should have been the STANDARD from the start when she first approached the Govenor. HE should have told her that!!!
