There were new attacks and a shaky truce to get some humanitarian aid into Gaza on day 12 of the crisis.

As you see in this photo , an Israeli woman and her two children had to take cover during a rocket alert near Kfar Aza near Gaza. It was one of several missile attacks today on both sides of the battle.

But there was also a 3-hour break in the attacks to get much needed supplies to the residents of Gaza. The brief truce didn't start off well. Just minutes after it was to take effect, Israeli forces fired at militants in Gaza. The Israeli military says it had to take the action because it was being targeted by Hamas fighters.

Eventually, the "humanitarian corridor" into Gaza was opened and supplies started to get into the area. There are severe shortages of food, water and medicine. The goal is to have a three-hour truce every other day to get these goods to where they are needed.

Meanwhile, Israel says it "welcomes" a cease-fire plan by Egypt and France. It will send two people to Cairo in the coming days to discuss the plan.

The mess in the Mideast was likely a topic today at the ultimate White House power lunch.

President-elect Barack Obama got to a chance to get advice from President Bush and three former presidents (Clinton, H.W. Bush and Carter) about the Gaza crisis, the U.S. economy and other important issues.

We'll have more on the historic meeting and the battle in Gaza tonight on AC360° .
Hope you can join us at 10 pm ET.

Regardless of the style of reporting, this geographical area has been a powder keg 50 years. When will common sense for both sides prevail?

the ultimate solution to the middle east conflict is to teach children to love thy neighbour as yourself!!then to live in an integrated society but not assimilated !!much as QUEBEC is part of CANADA in north america

Finally a picture that shows that the Israelis are suffering too.

Looking at the news coverage here in the US one can think that all the Israelis are soldiers and all the Palestinians are kids. Do not forget that it was the Palestinian who started this war and are firing their rockets from inside schools, mosques and hospitals.

I do not blame the people who condemn Israel, that’s the distorted image that the media is showing them here.

My husband and I totally Support Isreal in their reluctant, but necessary decision to end the lobbing of rockets into thier homes. Anyone who is capable of viewing reality as reality knows that this is self-defense and worthy of support from all sane beings.

I am really dissapointed how Israel always act like the victim , before hamas had any rockets ,israel was killing palestinians for throwing stones ,So who is used to kill will always kill and a killer will always be a killer

Palestinians are who are defending and try to liberate the land where they live on are called terrorist. Now the world is trying to find ways to stop the Palestinians from getting their fireworks. Who is stopping the Israelis in getting their US bomberplanes and what they have got?
Sadam Hoessein did get an embargo and a US fighter watch after attacking the Kurds. After attacking and ocupying Palestine and Palestinians for the last 50 years, who is putting an embargo on Israel and will save the Palestinians airspace? Why is the life of a Palestinian less as a Israelian? Israel will never get wat they want, peace and occupy Palestine territory at the same time. There are one and a half billion moslims in the world who hate Israel and through their own fault the USA, they have the time, hundred of years if needed.
If this will keep going, then Israel will loose ultimately.

    Dear Shimon Hai,

what do u expect when the state of Israel imprisons 1.5 million people, no food, no medicine, no power, no fuel, destroy the already shaky economy of the palestenians, carry out incursions, arrest and kill people very now and then??

Israel wants to starve the gazzans to submission and surrender. In the US we say "Freedom is not free" and the palestenians are paying the price of demanding freedom

3 hours every other day to get aid in to Gaza is a good start; I hope more comes rapidly on its heels. I imagine the people in Israel and in Gaza hope so too.

the media networks like cnn are distorting this whole story making Israel out to be the aggressor. any country in europe, the world, and even the US would engage in war with the palestinians if the palestinians launced rockets into their country. this humanitarian cry and cry for a cease fire is unfair and bais, why is a cease fire not demanded when thousands of rockets are being launched on civilians in Israel. this pro-arab slant that media networks like cnn have taken is hurting the image of israel and certainly the situation around the world. I as an israeli am pushing for the attack on the palestinians and i do not want a cease fire until the rockets stomp landing in israel, gilad shalit is returned, and hamas is deposed.
