I would like to know how Israel will know exactly how many people they killed an how they know it were exactly 130 of the Hamas. I think they killed much more people than the announce

    Hey Anderson,

Glad to see yoiu there in Israel. My wife and I did some volunteer humanitarian work with groups in Sederot helping the victims cope with the ongoing terror from Hamas. Having also seen things on the Palestinian side it was very hard to see Hamas exploit the people in Gaza for their own twisted end causing grief on both sides of the divide.

Stay safe and report the reality on the ground with bias.

Hi Anderson, stay safe you and all your colleagues. Why isn't what Christiane was talking about doable? Monitoring to stop smuggling of arms cash for them, rapprochment btwn Palistinian factions, Hamas, Fatah, and access to Gaza for Humanitarian aid? Is that Tony Blair's proposal? Didn't catch that.

Good evening Erica! Good to see you.

The Middle East situation has always had so many layers to it. I do look forward to hearing Prez-elect's thoughts on it once he's sworn in.

I was pleased to hear today that Israel will be allowing humanitarian aid into Gaza. Yes, I understand that some will probably fall into the hands of Hamas fighters, but the suffering of women and children needs to be mitigated. Best to err on the side of compassion.

    Hi Anderson,
I was so disappointed that you ran off to the middle east. I am concerned about your critical stress. You do look more rested tonight.
Dr. Gupta would be an awesome surgeon general!

Israel must cease fire. What kind of war against terror is this that kills more than 500 civilians?

PE Obama is hopefully not commenting because he will take a different course than Bush which will to use consistent diplomacy to help solve the problem instead of ignoring it until there is bloodshed which causes the world's attention and the Palestinians are left worse off.

He indicated as much today in his press conference.

Ah right! With all this horrible news I forgot about Gupta! I don't think anyone could do a better job...And I, as well as many others, already trust him.

I agree completely with what Anderson is saying. Zawahiri and Al-Qaida do see this as an "opportunity." As Anderson said in his post today, this is very much a "public relations war."

we should not blindly side with one or other other nation in this conflict...how can we ever come to an agreement and find a workable solution if neither side is willing to set asides their own bias and view the conflict through their opponents eyes?

Honestly, as Gaza is so tiny and congested, are there other places for Hamas to store their weapons, other than in places of residence and schools etc..........

Not that I agree with the fighting or the fact that they do use homes to hide their weapons. It's all way too grave and sad.

Everyone is empathizing with the terror of the missle attacks but nothing is as black and white as the Israelis want us to believe.

Imagine being fenced off in your own land being at the whim of one of the most highly armed countries in the world who has control over your movement, your food, medicine and electricity and who controls some of your land. What would you do? Would you protest? Would you strike out?

    anderson,

with the fighting in this area occurring since the 1940s (?), isnt long term peace a long shot?

Mr. Cooper ,crew and other reporters stay safe!how do y'all sleep...i see you in the morning and evening!
This whole thing is just so unfortunate...

The tunnels are used to transport food, fuel and medicine into Gaza.

Israel is defying its own Supreme Court which ruled that reporters can be allowed into Gaza. It is Israel not letting journalists in and is controlling the message largely being sent out by the American media.

there are extremist and zealots in each nation, religion and region...does that justify the deaths and suffering of innocent people on either side of the conflict?

Hi, Erica!! I've been lavishing so much praise on Anderson in my first few messages on this blog; I should take a moment to mention how much respect I have for you as well. You're great at what you do; thank you for filling in tonight!

I really wish I could say good evening all. I think we all know it is far from it...

Isn't anyone else furious? We have so many luxuries availabile in this world. We have so much "stuff" we don't even need. Electric toothbrushes, phones that you can touch to make calls and that have the internet, a vaccuum cleaner that is automatic, and so many others.

Yet, blowing up a school and killing so many people...children especially....we can't find a better way than that? It sickens me.

Hi everyone! That news about the shelter bombing is just tragic.

    January 6, 2009 at 10:03 pm |
  44. Brandi - bottom of the boot

what about the underground tunnels? have egypts side been secured to monitor anyone coming or going? cant some of these civilians get out using these tunnels?

    January 6, 2009 at 10:03 pm |
  45. Mike, Syracuse NY

Hello Anderson. How is it that rockets get in via tunnel, but food and medicine do not? It seems that Hamas cares more about killing Israelis than saving Palestinians.

    January 6, 2009 at 10:03 pm |
  46. Megan Dresslar - Shoreline, WA

Oh no!!!! I am so shocked all children killed in school by rocket!!!! my heart broken right now! 🙁
