Political circuses just don't get any better than this - unless you happen to care about a new administration taking power in the midst of national and international catastrophes.
Gov. Rod Blagojevich knows how to make life hell for his enemies, who now encompass almost everyone in the Democratic Party, including President-elect Barack Obama. Yet "almost everyone" is the operative phrase. Roland Burris, the veteran African American politician, discovered an affection for the embattled governor after Blagojevich appointed him to Obama's Senate seat Tuesday.

The Blagojevich situation has been going on now for over a month yet I have heard nothing constructive that the Democrats at the state of federal level plan to do about it. They can talk all they want; the situation needs some action and Blagojevich beat them to the punch. Since Blagojevich did have the power to name the successor and if that successor can be vetted in a way to assure he has no "quid pro quo" agreement with the Governor perhaps the most expeditious thing to do at the federal level is to accept the appointment and move on to the IMPORTANT issues facing the country and let the state of Illinois and the special prosecutor deal with the Governor.
New laws need to be put in place preventing a political leader from appointing anyone to any position while they are under investigation for corruption.
Its time the people took back their gvt.
Its time the people were allowed to fire their elected leaders. People in other jobs can get fired, so why are the gvt officials immune?
I think that it is funny that Blagojevich went against what the Dems wanted and appointed Burris to the senate. It is his right to do it even if they don't like it. He hasn't been convicted yet of anything. I'm interested to see what transpires next from this three ring circus!
