Evening Buzz: Avalanche survivor tells how he made it out alive

Happy New Year. Hope you’re having a relaxing day, easing into 2009.

If you made a resolution, we’d love to hear it. Especially if it’s not predictable (i.e., must lose weight, must quit smoking, must spend more time at the gym). We’ll compare your resolution to Jack Gray’s …and go from there.

Tonight we’re following the latest in the Middle East, where Israel’s airstrikes on Gaza are in their sixth day. Today a missile struck the home of a top Hamas leader, killing him and possibly some of his family. Hamas fired more rockets into Israel as well. No new talk of a cease-fire just yet. Nic Robertson is in the field.

We’re also learning much more about a deadly snowmobile outing in the Canadian Rockies.

Five days ago, 11 snowmobilers set off for a day of fun in British Columbia. But their adventure took a terrifying turn when a series of avalanches buried them. Just three survived, and to save themselves they had to make a gut-wrenching decision: leave the others behind. Tonight we’ll hear the riveting, heartbreaking details from Jeff Adams, one of the lucky ones.

Also tonight, where the Obamas will live when they move to Washington this weekend, in time for their daughters to start school Monday.

Plus, Charles Barkley’s end of year brush with the law. The former basketball star was arrested yesterday and booked on D.U.I. charges. In the annals of making a bad situation worse, Barkley unleashed some cheeky commentary on the cops who cuffed him. We’ll have the full story and the mug shot.

We’re especially excited about sharing some of the low-lights of last night’s Anderson-Kathy Griffin extravaganza in Times Square. Let’s just say not everything went off smoothly. If you can’t laugh at yourself, what’s the point? That’s our mantra today anyway.

Well, I had resolved not to be so gullible when my brothers tell me things, but they already got me again on that so I guess I resolve to try to not be so gullible. Don't anyone place any bets on me keeping it – my brothers are a wily bunch and they get such a kick out of suckering me into things. My resolution will just make them try harder.

I feel for the survivors of the avalanche. I bet that was the hardest thing they have ever had to do or may be the hardest thing they will ever have to do – leaving the others behind so they could survive. The others probably were dead already but you always have that "what if" thought and the guilt that goes with it. I'm glad they made it back safely.

    My resolution:
For every dollar spent on food and consumables, invest 50 cents into stocks for things that I like.

I figure that this economic downturn can't last long. If I invest my money while I still have it, maybe I will come out on top when this all stops!

My New Year's resolution is to accept that I am, anthropologically, african-american. Since my ancestors origin has been traced back to Sub-Saharan Africa then I am African-american.

Well, my New Year's resolution is to learn how to silk-screen. Since I apparently cannot win one of the “I Won the Beat 360° Challenge” t-shirts, I guess that I am just going to have to make myself one!

Happy new Year to the whole dang bunch at 360! You all do a great job putting on the show. Keep it up!

No resolutions here....why make something you're bound to break? No one ever keeps those things, just ask Cooper about his blogging one!

Looking forward to the avalanche survivor story. He really has a story to tell after living through being buried alive and making it out OK.

When will these celebrities and politicians ever learn? You'd think they'd know by now that if you break the law you're gonna pay! You'd think that we could have at least one day without some celebrity scandals but nope...

Looking forward to your low-lights from the NYE show! Hey...no body is perfect! LOL
