The Shot: Paterson Impression

SNL did a pretty good impression of NY Gov. Paterson. But did they go too far?

I'm going to take a different view than most, I guess. I just laughed watching it. And I have been partially blind since birth. It wasn't offensive. It was really funny. Lighten up people. SNL is going to push the limits. It's what they've done so well for so long. Here's the thing I learned a long time ago. People are going to make fun of what they don't understand. I can be angry. Or I can joke about it, too, make people at ease, and then try to educate them in a non-offensive way on what they obviously do not understand about my world every day.

No one with a disability should be made a joke.

I think it (the sketch) was in poor taste, but where was the outrage when Eddy Murphy was impersonating Stevie Wonder, and Damon Wayans was doing Handi-Man? Gov. Paterson is an courageous man whose limitations have certainly not held him back, so in the end is it any worse than exaggerating the hairdo, wardrobe, glasses, accent and moral beliefs of Sarah Palin, or even the perceived ignorance of George Bush? If you are a public figure you will be satirized. Welcome to the big leagues.

I think that it is in bad taste for people to make fun of anyone...especially when the person has disabilities. This skit to me was too over the top and 360 shouldn't even have shown it. That way Anderson wouldn't have had to plead the 5th and not comment. Which BTW made no sense to me when he has talked openly about his dislike for Britney and other celebs.
