At least the scandal is so outrageous that only an idiot would accept any appointment by this governor. Unfortunately, David, it doesn't seem less corrupt to me. But then, no one seems to be getting the "byes" on unacceptable behavior that were common 30 years ago.

Well, well, a wonderful day of civic lessons for the teens of America. How many times do you need to repeat this garbage. This corrupt Governor of Illinois would not exist if America had not grown up with the culture of corruption and now every one wants to vomit. We have gone from mob to gangs to serial killers and kids taking guns to school. Jackie Kennedy said once and I'll paraphase that America must learn that if it lives by the sword it will die by the sword. We have the sword of drugs – but that was okay. We have the sword of war – but that was in American interest. We have the sword of immorality – but we want to keep up with the times. Look at television, the movies from 1948 until the last Bond movie- violence, violence, violence and lies, lies, lies. Is this the America we want and who is really ready for a change?

Needless to say, I was stunned at the accusations but more importantly I hope the media don't throw Obama into this mess just for the press coverage.

Who knows?..........Accusations, accusations, How did he get elected?...........No doubt if he is indicted he will use "entrapment" as his defense.

You can tell people (good or bad) from their eyes and I'm telling you Blagojevich gives me the creeps!

I would just like to comment that Blagojevich is being referred to as the Governor of Illinois, but in fact was truely the govoner of Chicago! He rarely went to the Capital ~ Springfield and almost never attended to downstate needs. As a resident of downstate Illinois, I never considered him my Governor.

I'm also concerned about the "culture" in Chicago around corruption. Looking at the history, one has to wonder why and how corruption could still occur. Sounds like we need a "State of Ilinois Czar" now....Ha!

    Re: Governor Blagojevich:

All of Illinois should not be painted with the same broad brush. There is a history of political corruption in Chicago. However, there are many honest, hard-working public servants downstate who do not deserve to be associated with the Governor and his sick way of conducting business.

Why is Obama's picture on that "Seat for Sale" sign in the background? Shouldn't it be Blagojevich?

I have a few questions...is what he said really enough to convict him? Did he really do anything they can actually charge him with, except being a total lunatic?

Obama a reformer ? Yeah look at at the Governor of Illionis. This puts more doubt about Obama.. I think it time to look at these issues now before Obama get sworn in. Is this a change we believe in?

I hope the media spend time getting information on corruption of CEOs and the failing economy then trying to use this as a case against PE Obama.

i think that this incident dose to hurt my view president obama, this senator was only there to appoint another senator for the seat in Illinois, obama clearly had no matter in this issue.

    December 9, 2008 at 10:20 pm |
  16. Jo Ann, North Royalton, Ohio

No one would be stupid enough to accept an appointment from Blagojevich at this point! It would be political suicide.

I dont see how this can be held against Obama at all. this guy is the governor of Illinois, of course Obama has had to have some dealing with him, that doesnt make Obama corrupt or guilty. he wasnt the one taken into custody.

should we be suprised! we in Illinois seem to have the best Governors money can buy.

President elect Obama has several shady associations that are too easily explained away. When are "No comment", overt silence, and silencing "mis-spoken" or "poorly informed" spokespeople going to be considered unacceptable explanations?

If this man has been under investigation from 2003 the Fed did not expose any of the corruption that this Gov was apparently being watched for until after Obama was elected when they had enough to arrest him before todays events...Just seems convinent given the fact that the last Mohican to try and have President elect Obama barred from taking office over citizenship just failed yesterday it just seems to me that this is just another ploy to stop the ievitable from taking place in America

Ashley: In IL, this is not a scam. Our govt is totally corrupt, it is SOP here in the Land of Lincoln. He has been under investigation practically since he took the oath the first time.

Blagojevich ordered state agencies to stop doing business with Bank of America until it uses some of its bailout money to keep Republic Windows and Doors Factory open in Chicago.

    Can he legally do that?

    December 9, 2008 at 10:20 pm |
  24. Ashley, Missouri

Chicago politics is notoriously corrupt, but I'm still amazed that Blogojevich is shameless enough to attempt to sell Obama's Senate seat! He seemed so defiant yesterday, almost challenging the authorities to catch him. Sometimes, I guess you really do get what you ask for.

I know you'll never post this but I take tremendous offense with the graphic showing Barack Obama that says "seat for sale?" It implies that the president-elect had something to do with Blagojevich which he does not. I live in Illinois and we're smart enough to know the difference between the two. In fact, that's why we like Obama....because his last name isn't Mell, Madigan or Daley. Helllo!

    Hello Anderson & everyone.............

Can't wait to hear what David Gergen has to say about Blagojevich. I think he's an egotistical, arrogant idiot, could be some kind of 'path too. The man should be burned at the stake!

President Elect Obama is in no way guilty by association, The Gov. of Ill. was a dumber than dumb criminal all by himself. So any anti-Obama folks can put their happy pills they were about to swallow back in the box!

Good Evening Anderson, Randi & Bloggers!

Unbelievable news in regards to the Illinois Governor. What next in Politics? Just when you think you have seen it all......

What is the world coming to? Is there any evidence that may suggest that this goes on more often?

Let's face it Anderson, it's probably how campaign contributions are most likely to be raised by Governor's. He just didn't play the game right and pissed to many people off. Tape all the governors and senators and mayors..It should be part of their taking office to be taped 24/hours a day 7 days a week...You will see such wide spread corruption it would blow your mind..were one step above Mexico politics it seems. sad very sad our fore fathers are definitely rolling in their graves.

I have been following this story with what's been happening with the governor. My Facebook friends have also been keeping up with what's been going on. My parents, now living in Milwaukee (Wisconsin) were shocked when I called this moring- right after I had first received an e-mail from one of the Springfield, Illinois news media outlets with this breaking news. My Facebook friends and I all have an agreement that Blaggo is going to be in big trouble. There's even a Facebook group for people who want him to be impeached. I'm not sure if a governor can be impeached- one of my friends at the home where I live- didn't seem to think so; he just thought that the governor would simply either get fired or resign.
Earlier reports on CNN, though, say that he could get impeached. If this happens, it'll be the 2nd time in our presidential history that a politition has been impeached. Bill Clinton was the first elected official to get impeached back in the early part of this mllenium.

Blago has been ridiculous for the betterment of Illinois.
We have been under his regime and now the truth is coming forth..
The rest of the country has no idea what us Illinoisians have been going thru since his election......no capital bill, no nothing, for the folks for Illinois.....

    December 9, 2008 at 10:18 pm |
  37. Bob Salt

I believe Blago's approval rating is about 13%. The people of Illinois were skeptical of him.

As to the concern that persons of political bent will use the Illonis "Governor Defunct" to harm the image of "President Elect" Barach Obamah's reputation....

Yes Virginia, there is political scandal and it will impact Barack Obamah . There has been political intrigue since the time of Lincoln..and yes even before. The minds of political slugs are in operation and will continue to be. Your little friends are wrong Virginia. Mud slinging from and by the smoothest of operatives will continue. Like the snows of Montana in January to the sun of Florida, from Bangor to mighty Maine the spirit of wrong minded folk will continue. Yes Virginia it is there!

Unfortunately , we have all heard of the phrase guilt by association. However, we all know that this is not always true and as a matter of fact is mutually exclusive. President elect Obama is caught in this quadmire of not of his own making. Us Chicagoans know that Blagovich is dirty and corrupt! We also know that this has nothing to do with the President Elect. It is unfortunate that the rest of the country does not understand this dynamic in Illinois politics.

come on anderson. is there not more important things to discuss going on in the world today? this does not change my view of obama in the least. the only distraction out of this whole story a
is you and the rest of the coorprate media making a huge distraction out of this. granted the govenor is a fool and an idiot but how you and the media try to connect obama to this through your words and titles and pictures is just as foolish and idiotic. get real anderson and start reporting the news instead of puting your own spin on it.

It's time you guys hear from some Central Illinois folks- we in the mid-section never supported Blago or Ryan. I'm utterly ashamed and disgusted at the seemingly lack of propriety and ethical conduct in our state government. I'm embarrassed that my state govenor is Anderson's top story tonight. Please- somebody with some moral character and that can balance a checkbook- save Illinois!!

Hi Everyone~from the Great State of Illinois...what an embarrassment! From someone who celebrated the beauty of America's progress from Grant Park just over a month age, I am devastated that, when we should be celebrating and working to get through all of America's problems, we are again dealing with crooks! HELP US!!!!

    December 9, 2008 at 10:17 pm |

I am from Chicago and we call it "Crook" county not Cook County for a reason now they need to get Mayor Daley and Todd Stroger the board president of Cook County!!! Hopefully they keep Ryan locked up too with no pardon they can be cellmates!! Thank You Patrick Fitgerald For trying to keep them honest

No, the situation with the Illinois governor does not change my opimion of President elect Obama. He cannot be responsible for the actions of other politicians. We are so fortunate to have Mr. Obama taking office in January. The expertise he exhibited in conducting his campaign is what I am looking forward to for our country's business!

Anderson, Anderson...Oprah's weight?#% I watch you to get important news of the day and in case you hadn't noticed there's plenty of it.. Oprah's weight problem is not important to anyone except Oprah. I thought you were above tabloid journalism. Your viewers are. I stuck with you even after you replace Aaron. But I, and a lot of your viewers, won't hang around for Oprah stories.
