Intel services from the US, India and Britain were trying to piece together what they knew in the wake of the Mumbai bombing, a US official tells me.

There is some thought, according to this source, that the attack might be linked to a group called LET (Lashkar-E-Tayyaba). It’s a terrorist group that is active in the region. One of the largest and most active Islamic militant organizations in south asia–a group that has carried out major attacks in India–its objective ..ending Indian rule KASHMIR–

A US counterterrorism official says “when you see the choice of target and the sophistication of the attack,” Islamic extremism is what would come to mind.

“No one would be surprised if its Islamic extremists,” the counterterrorism official added.

This doesn’t necessarily mean Al Qaeda central, it could be a related group. What are US experts looking at for clues? The level of organization, money, financing, and communication needed to pull this off.

Deccan Mujahiddin seems to be part of network called Indian Mujahiddin involved in the blasts elsewhere in India throughout last 2 years or so .This group consists the same youth cadre of Student Islamic Movement in Inda , also known as SIMI and became very famous after being banned . Has Intl and media forgotten SIMI? They were well funded with the resource influx through gulf countries.

The titles of terrorists network are becoming irrelevant . Because terrorism gets so much media attention , it is easy to create new brand names if the fundamentals of their movements are solid. These new brands start centralizing the resources through their new images and that eventually results into attacks..."Osamapreneurship"

Though no American is killed yet, choosing evening before Thanksgiving for these attacks is very signficant. That means US on alert. Thanksgiving Symbolic events- like Macy's parade in NY should be watched. If attacks prove to be restrcted to India for a while, one big attack before Obama takes over makes big sense for them.

But for CST ralway station, choice of places shows they were not targetting Indian masses. (2006 train attacks were more targetted to kill masses.) The intl should focus on symols of Indo-US strategic allance- direct and indirect. Like Hotels were business people stay! No Mumbaikar would think of Taj-Oberoy attacked. How many business ppl will stay there now? Clever..

    Dear Barbara,

Does Al-Qaeda just automatically come to your mind if anything remotely related to America happens? Not a single American has been killed in the firings. It is known that the terrorists fired directly at the Indian employees at the hotel and the Indians on the roads; and most, if not all, sites were places where chances of finding a foreigner late at night on a weekday were next to null (railway stations, dockyard road, hospitals, etc.). Why then do you and your channel imply that USA could be a target and that the threat could be related to Al Qaeda?

It seems to me that the American media will, very selfishly, interpret any and all events around the world (especially near Afghanistan) as a direct threat to America, try to force their way in to the country and then start attacking the very same country that they are in (e.g. Pakistan).

Everyone appreciates the media's concern over "terrorism" and for the victims. But please, do not use this as an excuse to fuel negativity or suggest that America should, in any way, interfere with the handling of the situation.

The pace with which India is moving on as a secular, strong democracy has made a lot of people jealous in the neighborhood. They pump in money for misguided and whacko fanatical muslim youth. There is no country in the world that can protect itself from this lethal combination of resources and perverted religion.
In spite of these senseless attacks, the strength of India lies in it's outlook, education and spirit.
It is time for India to retailate against external sources and curb the internal problem points.

India's thrown its lot in with the US. This is part of what comes with that deal.

Guaranteed there'll be more. Life's tough.
