The person who has it right is John King. The American middle class is mad and not buying any of this. I'm not a McCain fan, but better to go back to Washington and get an in depth understanding of what is going on financially in order to broker something fair for the American people than stay in front of a camera spinning more garbage to us. We've only heard this bail-out stuff 10-15 times over the last 30 years. This proves to us that there is a game going on in Washington that has nothing to do with the people out here.
With the triumvirate of Bush, Obama and McCain meeting, how can any of them stay out of the negotiation? They can't just be about rounding up votes. Each of them hopefully will state what their intentions are in serving the American interests
supposing that the bailout is as urgent as Hank and Ben say, where did the 700b figure come from? what research or support do they have that this 700b number is enough, or not too much?
I have watched the meeting all day long. It looks good to me. The only people who were not on board are the Republicans who finally got a backbone to say no to the President.
The committee does not need McCain. This is a political stunt by McCain.
He is using the same strategy that he used to survive his tenure as a POW. Tell them anything to confuss the issue.
We are now the "them."
POLITICAL STUNT by McCain.
Republican For Obama
I Wonder if the fbi investigation of fannie mae, freddie mac, merrill lynch, and aig Has anything at all to do with McCain Suspending his campaign.
We have been in a technology bubble created by Marc Anderson and Steve Jobs. It was Ford Motor companies technology bubble that crashed the stock market in 1929. And, the tech bubble that we are in right know will end in the same way.
Anderson,
I don't think McCain should return to Washington to "help". He needs to debate on Friday night so that we can hear directly from him. If he doesn't show up it will look like he is trying to run from the debate. How will that help the American people? Show up and show your stuff, McCain. Or not.
Obama doesn't want to postpone the debate because he doesn't want to go back to work.
Dear Anderson:
The press needs to stop pussyfooting around Sarah Palin. If the McCain camp won't allow reporters acces to Sarah for anything other than a photo op, you need to stop covering the McCain campaign. Period. Cover only those candidates that allow the press (and therefore all Americans) to question the opinions and credentials of anyone running for office. If you refuse to cover Ms. Palin's non-substantive events, and only cover the useful speeches and meetings of Obama/Biden and McCain, then the McCain camp will realize that there is a price to pay for limiting access to their VP candidate – which is a violation of first amendment rights for the people of this country.
Ae we in an recession. why did the republican do this to us? I am worried.
Finally we see how our democracy was originally set up working. Different parts of government monitoring each other, working together for a common goal. For all of us to see, not behind closed doors with no accountability. It’s sad that only in a time of crisis do we pull together. This is the kind of government we need year round.
I have recently returned from evacuation for Hurricane Ike. Im angry there was not more coverage during the storm and no media attention now that recovery has begun. The insurance adjuster told me today the damage this storm caused was greater than Katrina, Wilma, and Rita all together. The communities on the Gulf coast are devestated and will need years to recover. We could use some of the attention given to other disasters. There are cities with 100 percent damage to citizens and tax base. People working hard to literally dig out of mud dead animals water, grass. Come report and show the work going on in these cities so others with the means to help will.
This is a time for leadership in America. We the people of America are much more important than a campain. McCain and Obama should walk arm and arm into Washinton and say we are going to do our jobs for the taxpayers of America and we are here to look out for their interests. They could show leadership, the ability to work across party lines, the ability to put country first and help the American people. They are after all getting paid to do that for their current jobs!
At the very least "W" should have apologized to us the American people for the fiasco he has left the next American president and the american people. This is his legacy – i can only hope that when corporations and organizations plan their KEY NOTE Speakers – the only topic the "W" can speak to "how I screwed "My Fellow Americans and made money for my friends, too!"
