Democrats eager to portray John McCain as out of touch with average Americans and as a flip-flopper seized on a report Sunday the Arizona senator and his wife, Cindy, own more than a dozen cars — including several foreign-made automobiles.

A Newsweek article published on the magazine's Web Site Sunday said registration records show the McCains currently own 13 cars — two of which are foreign-made: a Honda and a Volkswagen. That appears to contradict the Republican presidential nominee's past statements he only buys cars made in America. (Cindy McCain also drives a Lexus and daughter Meghan owns a Toyota Prius, but neither are registered to the McCains.)

Newsweek also reported Barack Obama owns one car: a Ford Escape Hybrid...

The number of cars does not determine the man but......
The man can determine the number of cars.

I have to agree with Brian Rogers, things like this are nothing more than "childish political attacks." They are insulting to voters because they are used to try and distract from the real issues.

It is bad enough that Newsweek is reporting this worthless garbage, but it is even worse that 360 is repeating it here on the blog and will probably waste valuable time talking about it on the air.

Unfortunately, only the rich seem to be able to run for office successfully, but based on the reasoning that McCain cannot “identify” with the middle class because he is rich how can anyone believe that wealthy journalists like Anderson can “identify” with the middle class enough to be trusted? The truth is, they can never really fully appreciate our day-to-day struggles.

In my opinion, the rich and famous have no business telling the middle class what is best for them!

    “The public be damned” indeed!

I could really care less if he had 20 cars! This is stupid. We are the country of prosperity. This is so not important. I'm a Dem and I find it a pathetic attempt to attack McCain. It's like going back to the house's. His wife Cindy was lucky to have a family that like other's in this country worked hard to make something with their life. Go after his policies then I will be impressed.

Nine homes, thirteen cars and the $300,000 Cindy McCain spent on her Republican convention outfit...nope, nothing elitist about that at all...

Facts are Facts! Just a few for us from John McCain – check it out – I own 13 cars – 7 houses, 1 airplane, I support the middle class, my government paid for my education, I am POW, 26 years in the Sen, never asked for a earmark, I am a maverick, 138 lobbyiest working on my behalf, No new taxes, the economy is fundamentally sound, economic plan developed by phil ghram, I don't support the bail out of AIG...oh wait, I changed my mind on that, fire SEC Chairman Cox, I've supported no regulations on the "free market" it will correct itself, offering proposal on the economy prior to getting all the facts, we must continue fighting a war in Iraq with government that shed's no responsibility, I know where Osama Bin Laden is and I will find him, country first, select an unvetted governor who has NO real world experience and can not speak off script, most important health care.....Please can you vote for me? With this track record, why should I??

Cindy works hard for her money – she ought to be able to enjoy it without the press making a big deal out of it.

Yeah, she worked really hard pre-birth to make sure she was born to rich parents.

Look, I'm not against wealthy people enjoying their wealth, but inheriting 100 million dollars isn't the same as earning 100 million dollars and no amount of GRUELING board meetings and networking over cocktails will make it so.

And at the very least, people with more than seven houses and thirteen cars have a lot of nerve calling other people 'elitist' and 'out of touch with average Americans'.

And as usual......it is okay for over consumptions by the real elitist ......So McCain can drive a different car every day......and if one breaks down he can get another......and by the way Mayor Daily lives so close to the office that he could walk......and I doubt if he owns 13 cars not unless he has a part time job as car dealer.......and you people (Republicans) have the nerve to call Senator Obama and elitist........McCain is so out of touch with what the middle-class citizens are having to do just to keep one car going and live in one house.

why doesn't he sell some of them and give the money to homeless people or people that has lost everything they own.god isn't pleased with any of those rich folks, because he didn't allow them to be wealhy just for themselves. how many cars can he drive at one time or can he still get liscense.

"Undermineing the autoworkers"? Being that he's got more cars wouldn't it mean he's contributing MORE to the autoworkers? By the by there was no mention of how many cars Michelle Obama drives or what car she drives heh. Obama has two daughters he may buy cars for eventually, that will make 4 cars if Michelle has one too. Seven kids 7 houses. So what. If I could afford more cars I'd buy them that doesn't make me elitist it makes me someone who likes cars. McCain was a pilot he likes things that move and has the money to contribute to that. It's getting pretty stupid now isn't it because there is nothing more to really report on the candidates lol.

Cars? The scripted McCain supporter who said that the Media is not doing their job is correct. (Yes, the Republicans distribute tickets to McCain's "open" forums; did you notice McCain drop his mike to "let her speak," she was a plant.)

Why hasn't the media gone after Palin for not taking questions? Why does one have to go to blogs to see that she has stonewalled troopergate when she and McCain keep waiving the transparency flag? Where is her tax return, emails? Transparency? The only transparency I see is the media that has buckled under the Republican spin machine.

For real, who cares how many cars or what type they are. This is a waste of time. Just because Obama can't afford new cars doesn't mean McCain shouldn't.

I agree that the campaigns should focus on the important stuff and not this tit for tat re who owns what cars. However, in this case McCain opened the door by saying he buys American when he doesn't. He should have been honest about his family's car buying preferences whether he is in Detroit or Phoenix.

I read that Cindy McCain is worth $100M, so of course the McCains would own more cars than you can shake a stick at. If they have 8 houses you would need a car at each place to have transportation when you were staying at that house.

Good thing neither one of the McCains were raised by a struggling young mom who had to go on Food Stamps while she was a student. Then they would be elitists in addition to fibbers.

Is it any surprise McCain is utterly out of touch with the realities of the middle class? His wife is worth some 100 million dollars, he owns 8 houses and 13 cars. The fact that the Republicans try and paint Obama as elitest when he is the definition of a self made man and the classic story of the American dream shows just how ridiculous their lies and smears are.

It must be the Democrats are so inept ,that their name calling,"LIAR",is now not working,so it's ,"How many cars do you have?","How many houses do you have?"How could I vote for someone who has more cars than me?

You're just jealous because you only have 2, that run,not including the 3 that don't run,on blocks ,in the front yard.

Insted of petty politics gloss over this proposal.
I am an outsider who feel sorry to see US go the way Argentina went.

    Common Mans Bailout Proposal

Allow banks to swap debts with US agency xxx with following terms and conditions.
    1. If total assets held by a bank is $100 billion and total market capitalization is $20 billion, bank can park bad debts of up to $50 billion for 50% of company shares transferred to govt.
    2. Government can own max up to 80% of a company with this kind of ratio. In case the ratio is greater than 80% nationalize complete entity
    3. Company can buy back the debts from US govt along with shares pledged by paying 9% interest, when economy turns around.
    4. Govt will get dividends for shares held by it.
    5. Banks can remove off these debts from their balance sheet.
    6. After a period of 5 years if respective banks do not buy it back, US govt can sell those debts and shares to other banks or entities interested in buying them.
Sounds like a plan. Add your comments and proposals.

What? You mean McCain lied when he told the autoworkers that he ONLY purchases cars made in America? What a surprise, McCain lied. Imagine that.

McCain is probably wishing he had never tried to paint Obama as an elitist. Not too bright on his part.

When I see Demicrats or Republicans "seizing" on issues as how many houses or how may cars or how much did they pay for their homes I think they don't have a good message on the issues that really matter. When will the campaign and media coverage finally be about the issues asn who can best lead us?

I think it's ironic that Obama was painted as an elitist yet McCain is the one who exemplifies excess.

I have neighbors who have almost as many cars because of their teenagers. I know they aren't rich and I always wonder how the heck they afford it but I don't consider them being out of touch with the rest of us as a consequence.

If having a lot of cars is going to be an issue lets focus on how many of the cars aren't hybrids and are big gas guzzlers – something that matters to our energy policy and environment. Other than that I don't much care if he collects cars or houses. Cindy works hard for her money – she ought to be able to enjoy it without the press making a big deal out of it.

Cindy – I appreciate the need for the media to focus on something other than "ridiculous stuff," but I believe McCain started the ads calling Obama an out of touch elitist/celebrity. His own campaign strategy invites this type of scrutiny.

It's too bad McCain never ran the campaign he promised us.

and McCain has the nerve to call Obama an elitist. In fact Cindy, it does matter if you have 7 homes and 13 cars... Obama only has one home and one car.... It is the Republican that is out of touch...

Who really cares how many cars McCain or Obama owns or where they live? When will the media get off of this ridiculous stuff and get back to the real things that we need to talk about!?

I mean let's be realistic...they all are millionaires and are not in touch with how we live every day of our lives. If anyone thinks that they are then they are fooling themselves!

13 cars? Someone tell me how this man can relate to ANYONE in the middle class or lower? McCain is an excess elitist and another ONE just like the ONE we've got!
He doesn't care about the working class he just cares about war, power and money in HIS pocket. I wonder if God told him to be president too?
    Sound familiar?
