No one was teased it was going to be Clinton. He has never made it sound that way. He has only said, "She would be on anyone's short list." I am sure it won't be Hillary and everyone knows that.

Yes, back in the WH, MaryBeth, but would a cabinet spot be better for Hillary? Potentially more power, more fulfilling and could set her up better for her political future.

Excellent point Erica – and also why would anyone have to vet a former First Lady and Senator ? I don't think Hillary wants the VP slot and discussed that with Barack when they met.

There are a lot of other important positions that he could use Senator Clinton. Everyone might be surprised where he plans to place her.

Mike, You are right he did and if Biden is the choice you will see those words repeated over and over again in a McCain ad. It will be interesting to see how Biden tries to explain those remarks away. It will look like a flip flop no matter what he says.

It pains me to read comments such as "if he doesn't pick____, well I won't vote"

Come on! We need Obama!! REGARDLESS of who he pick for VP.

    Please... VOTE!!!

Waiting "patiently" for my text! Have a good night, everyone!

Erica, that's quite possible. However, I remember Hillary saying she would take the job not too long ago.

I would like to see Evan Baye as Obama's running mate.

No Erica, Nobody wanted to carry all her baggage. But to learn that she was never vetted, flies in the face of Obama always saying, "She would be on anyone's shortlist!"

Erica I am on the text and e-mail list but turn my mobile off when I go to sleep at night. I figure his choice will be the same choice in the morning. No reason for me to lose any sleep over it. I can assure you that whoever he chooses will please many and anger many. Probably by doing it on the weekend the time to developed the anger and dig up dirt on the chosen person is limited. The convention is going to be one big bang. Sure glad I will not be there.

I am on the text alert list.Of course I am on the west coast and I figure it will be between 3am and 4 but at this point Im sleeping in till 6.

    Erica,
I think the only way she is not interested in the VP position, is if she plans on having some role in his administration and I can't get past the bounce he would get in such a close race if he were to choose Hillary. This pick could cost him the election.

Erica Hillary doesnt need to be vetted I cant believe that she wouldnt want the VP spot One thing about the Clintons they are democrats and will do whatever it takes for this party thats I whats I believe

  14. Connie

If Hillary voters keep saying they wont vote if she is not on the ticket and lose this election for us (democrats) then I and probably many others will NOT vote for her if and when she runs. God bless this country if another republican wins.

  16. MaryBeth

Erica: good question! But what's even better is, why wouldn't she want the VP slot? At least she gets back in the White House.

    August 22, 2008 at 10:27 pm |
  17. Jolene

My opinion is that if Hillary is saying she never wanted the job, it's just to save face that Obama didn't pick her. I can't imagine her turning down the job if offered to her.

    August 22, 2008 at 10:27 pm |
  18. Deon

Erica, no way. She wants it.

    August 22, 2008 at 10:26 pm |
  19. carole

If that is why she was not vetted, it doesn't help him out much. He will have to explain alot. We here in Scranton, PA really wanted Hillary.

At the start of this race i wanted Sen. Joe Biden to win the nomination but when he pulled out i had to find another candidate to pull for, so I met with Hillary Clinton and I quickly made my decision, she would be the one. It kills me how anyone could not put hillary on their v.p short list i am going to support obama but i very disapointed.

How can Biden, who has been in the Senate for 36 years, be considered change? Obama's ads right now are saying McCain has been there too long, but Biden had been there a lot longer.

I'm on text alert. And although I am an Obama supporter I think he has blown this VP announcement totally by waiting so long. People have been teased into thinking it was going to be Clinton. Now it looks like Biden and will be no surprise. Unless...

    Sheesh, I have a headache.

    August 22, 2008 at 10:25 pm |
  24. Emma

I think it would be wise for Obama to pick Hillary for VP. If I'm not mistaken, close to half of her supporters still will not vote for him. If he picks someone else, it's going to get ugly.

  25. Heidi, Lou.Ky

text messaging is about to show people that he cares about there opinion, that is argument for Obama ,later on , but I believe , he will pick Hillary ,plus , he is buying time

    August 22, 2008 at 10:24 pm |
  26. Heather

It sure would have been nice to know that the text message wont be sent till early Sat am.I think we all would have liked to have been told oh days ago.I guess it's back to maybe a 3am text message for those of us west coast time.

  27. gregory

What's the game? Why is he waiting so long into the weekend? Who else thinks he is going to lose publicity and momentum? If this is a strategy going into the convention, I think people will reconnect on Monday morning, instead of having everyone talking already throughout the weekend.

@Chris, your comment gets me wondering...Does anyone know if candidates who fought against each other EVER teamed up on the ticket for a general? Has that ever been a success? seems awkward

I have always liked Biden. He is one thing you don't see in Washington he is honest! I remember the CNN debates .Biden was always honest.Even Hillary would say if he was right.

I am a avid Hillary Clinton supporter and if Obama chooses a nobody like Joe Biden. If he picks Biden over Hillary tomorrow there are so many of us getting ready to protest and condem Obama. Senator Obama will either divide us or unite us with his choice. I hope Hillary will stop supporting him if she is not his VP. I will not support Obama and vote for McCain. We put up with a president who never listens to the people like Bush. This will be a slap in the face to all of us who supported her and want this dream ticket.

I think Hillary should have been vetted also. Big mistake not to do at least that. Really affects my voting in November.

  45. Cynthia

Erica, I am on the text list.

Wesley, do you think that the Clinton's could really survive the vetting process – there is the Clinton Library donors among other things that I don't think that they would want delved into.

I am waiting for the announcement that Joe Biden will be the VP. There is even a charter plane going to New Castle, Delaware. My personal favorite Kathleen Sebelius is out because of the Hillary Clinton outfall. Chet Edwards? Obama has a lack of experence, then you add someone with not enough experience in Chet Edwards. Carville is absolutely right Obama will only win if he stops acting so wimpy. Thank God for Obama's pitbull – Biden.

    August 22, 2008 at 10:20 pm |
  48. sally

I think it will be Chet Edwards, but it really doesn't matter, Obama will win now matter who it is.

Obama has said he wants someone that can challenge him....(hillary) also he has started using her strategies. hence the comment (i will wake everyday thinking of you) he restated a comment from her campaign.
