Has the elusive Bigfoot finally been found? If you ask two men who held a news conference in California today they would say, "YES!!!" The skeptics say "NOOO!!" Check out the photo. Does it look like the mystical Bigfoot to you? Matthew Whitton and Ric Dyer have quite a story. They say they stumbled onto the body of Bigfoot while hiking in early June in a remote north Georgia forest.
From their press release, here are some of the vital statistics on the "Bigfoot" body:
– The creature is 7-foot-7 inches tall.
– It weighs over 500 pounds.
– The creature looks like it is part human and part ape-like.
– It is male.
– It has reddish hair and blackish-grey eyes.
– It has two arms and two legs, and five fingers on each hand and five toes on each foot.
– The feet are flat and similar to human feet.
– Its footprint is 16-and-3/4 inches long and 5-and-3/4 inches wide at the heel.
– From the palm of the hand to the tip of the middle finger, its hands are 11-and-3/4-inches long and 6-and-1/4-inches wide.
– The creatures walk upright. (Several of them were sighted on the same day that the body was found.)
– The teeth are more human-like than ape-like.
The two men claim DNA from the creature could prove once and for all that Bigfoot, or Sasquatch, or the Yeti (whatever name you prefer) is not fiction, but fact. They stored "Bigfoot" in a freezer and got some tests done on the creature. At today's news conference, they talked about an e-mail from a University of Minnesota entomologist, saying one of three DNA samples the men took from the corpse was "inconclusive. That could mean the DNA didn't come from a known species. As for the other two DNA samples: one had traces of human DNA, the other had traces of opposum DNA – due to something it ate, they say.
Though, several web sites are questioning the entire story and say the creature shown in the photo is actually a Bigfoot costume. At today's news conference, they didn't show the body. That's in a secret location. And, they won't let anyone but their own scientists examine the body, and none of their "experts" attended today's news conference.
Skeptics grilled the two men for more than a half hour today. And, others are questioning the story on the internet. They're not taking the claim seriously and neither are federal wildlife officers. Are you? Do you think Bigfoot is really out there?
