Maureen: the IOC is too afraid of offending China. God forbid we say something negative about a country with no basic human rights and the ability to put ANYTHING on their tables to consume.

if republicans continue down this path of untruths and mudslinging they will sabotage their own chances of winning in the fall; after all, it is the American way to root for the underdog...

He's not writing a book, he's about to start editting one. Thanks for clearing that up Roland.

@Joann, Colin Powell has often talked about how he disagrees with the "Hawkish" foreign policy of Bush/McCain. He would back Obama because he believes in soft diplomacy over military force.

Anderson, I wouldn't be surprised if Rev. Wright shoots out a controversial book.

A lot of asian kids don't really look their age, at least compared to the Westerners... being an Indian I get the comment all the time ... so unless the birth certificate of these gymnasts is checked... and again, can we really trust the records?

It's lucky for Obama the reverend Wright not writing a book to remind Americans that Obama sat in Wrights church for 20 years.

Sally I feel very sorry for you, Corsi is a liar and I assure you most of those references are fake or altered.

    August 13, 2008 at 10:37 pm |
  11. Sharon

Why is Wright revelevant now? He already has his months of fame. Enough already!

    August 13, 2008 at 10:37 pm |
  12. Shannon

@Sally, nonpartisan groups have found over 80 lies in this book. So it is obviously referenced incorrectly and deceptively.

  13. Fay, CA

Roland is right–there's really no reason to bring up the issue of Reverend Wright if there are no real facts behind the rumors.

    Roland Rocks! Gig 'em aggies.
The Rev. Wright is right to hold off on the book!

  15. Larry

Does the book contain anything that was not revealed in the vetting of Sen. Obama?

Georgia's leader, President Saakashvili was unable to stay cool in the face of Russian pressure.

He couldn't stay cool, and tried to take South Ossetia from Russia with military force.

That is the problem with electing regular folks to be president. Regular folks are too emotional. They act without thinking things through thoroughly.

Only, instead of creating problems for themselves where they have to pay the penalty, overly emotional presidents create problems for their countries where their citizens and troops have to pay the penalty.

Not the Wright stuff again!! He already said he wasn't writing a book. Roland even blogged about it.

Some follow the rules others make their own rules and do their own thing. The Chinese gymnasts won gold though. Was that a fair competition?

I'd be interested to know why Colin Powell would back Obama since he never supported any liberal issues or candidates before.

The devastation in Georgia looks horrible! The Russians seem bent on some sort of 'ethnic cleansing'.

I thought that it was arrogant of McCain to speak for the American People on Georgia policy.

Can Senator Obama sue Jerome Corsi for Slander? If so, is it possible that he would?

    August 13, 2008 at 10:30 pm |

I didn't think Colin Powell was a Democrat though. It wouldn't hurt Barack if he was endorsed by Colin Powell.

I've read the book, 'The Obama Nation' by Dr. Corsi – and it is amazing – totally referenced – Corsi has done a fabulous job explaining what Obama is about –

Why is this mud slinger getting so much attention? Why must Barrack constantly being asked the same questions? It would be great if we could focus on the issues.

With Rev Wright continues to want to be in the news....even if he has to write his own book. Instead of reading the book he is suppose to be living by.

    August 13, 2008 at 10:29 pm |
  30. Frank, El Dorado Hills, CA

Very light on refuting specifics in the book. Thats what we want to hear/know.

Everything between now and November is going to be strictly for the purpose of discrediting Senator Obama and it will serve only to solidify the beleif that he is all these things in the people that beleive it already.

    August 13, 2008 at 10:29 pm |
  32. David, Indiana

Kevin Madden is right, you can't let someone else define you, but some stuff is so off base you have to be careful about you respond to it, or just quickly refute it. Kerry was hurt by the swiftboat ads they bogged him down.

    August 13, 2008 at 10:29 pm |
  33. Heather

The book is partially correct. Not completely correct.Obama spent 20 yrs going to a church where Rev Jeremiah Wright was.I know he isn't Muslim.I also knew he has connections to people who aren't exactly people you want to be associated with if you want to be president.

i agree with rose from southern Ca. It scares me to death that tensions are rising between two countries that can totally destroy each other with the push of a button.

Whoever becomes President will have to deal with thousands of books during their term. One thing for sure not all the books will be flattering. No matter who is President.

    August 13, 2008 at 10:27 pm |
  36. Jo Ann, Ohio

I don't think a book like this will change anyone's mind unless there is some truth to it.

There is more than enough negative information in Obama's own books.

Anderson lets take this all the way to the very begining. Why did Georgia go into South Ossetia? What was the objective? Why did they do this?

    Good Point Jay!!

Its obvious this Jerome Corsi is a hard core Republican. Why else would he write another accusing book on another Democratic presidential candidate?

This book about Obama is a terrible lie!!! It is embarrassing that there are people like this in our society and their are those that believe them.

I never trusted Russia and I am not surprised of what they are doing I think Russia is pushing the U.S. Into another war. We need to work with the other countries this time and not get into this trap.

    August 13, 2008 at 10:25 pm |
  42. Roweena D'Souza, Seattle

how credible is this book, if there are such blatant lies!

    August 13, 2008 at 10:25 pm |
  43. sylvia

is this guy for real; does he really think that just because he got away with it once he can do it again? then again seeing how long it took for the democrats to respond to it the first time around, I guess he thinks he can; although a little to early, no? he is giving them to much to time to respond and discredit him before the election race heats up

    August 13, 2008 at 10:24 pm |

Why do I think the republicans are behind this book?!

The gunman from the shooting today at the Democratic HQ in LR is said to be a disgruntled employee of the victim. The victim owned a large car dealership.

I am waiting and watching for Russia to claim they've been attacked by an extremist group, claim Georgia has weapons of mass destruction, and point to cases genocide as reasons they've invaded Georgia with shock and awe. For someone who can only rely on the media, it's sometimes really difficult to understand where the facts are.

Anyway, this situation really needs the European Union to stand up, be untied, and not cower in the corner from Russia. They really have more to lose with democracy losing ground over there than the US. I only hope they don't expect the US to do all the tough talking.

    August 13, 2008 at 10:23 pm |
  47. Kevin Gustafson

Russia is totally legit in doing what it is doing and it is hypocritical of the government of the U.S, to claim it to be wrong. And it shows that John McCain, even with his experience he still makes poor decisions

    August 13, 2008 at 10:23 pm |
  48. Michele, Oregon

McCain needs to keep out of this! He is only a candidate and his MO is to rankle and agitate. We are dealing with a lot of pride issues in the nations, and Russia is no different. Let the nations who did not invade another sovereign country go to the table as France's president has. They have more leverage. It is good to be sending in humanitarian aide, as all the members of NATO should, but our military should not get involved. What are we going to do? Drop a nuclear bomb? or provoke Russia to do it?

    August 13, 2008 at 10:23 pm |
  49. Alvin

The whole Russian-Georgian dispute is not the concerns of the US. Yes, it is obvious that the world is becoming more interdependent and what ever happens over there affects us here but we are in a majority of problems today because the US intervened in the internal affairs of other nations. Should we really continue this trend?

Doesn't a best seller have to sell the most books? It seems as if the right wing is "exaggerating" once again.
