Topless contest for Mrs. McCain?

Editor's note: Sen. John McCain jokingly volunteered his wife for a beauty pageant that often features topless contestants at the Buffalo Chip’s annual Tribute to American Veterans and Active Duty Servicemen. But perhaps unlike Sen. McCain, the audience knew what they often take off to take first place in this contest.

Lampe - I don't follow any gossip rags. As I said, living in AZ for years, you know things others do notl.

Jo-Ann, Did you get a copy of Sen. McCain's divorce papers? If you didn't and your just reading those gossip rags, then how do you really know what's the truth. For all you know Cindy, could have paid her alot of money. Sen. and Cindy McCain, have been together, maybe his first wife just spent all the money. And if Obama, would have said something like that joke, about Michelle, she would have kicked his butt, she doesn't seem like she has a sense of humor.

Vince, in CA., wife #1 was disabled and NOT able to get a job. He had plenty to leave her but didn't. Having lived in AZ for years, there are more stories out there than you'll ever know. Pick your poison!

It's funny how a joke can take a life of it's own. Now some people think he's being sexist. How did so many people develop such fragile feelings. I've heard 100 times worse at a Chris Rock show about white people, who's backing Obama, and I laughed to tears. Because, it's a joke. Now if I was to find out that Chris Rock really does despise white people then I probably won't care for him too much. We have to keep our sense of humor. This world is hard and depressing enough.

Let's put women in their place....at a topless beauty contest. Sounds like a dinosaur to me.

A Topless Contest at the Republican Convention won't even help him.
    Would Be more interesting though.

Kim in Harrisburg~~~"Miss Hilton"? I'm all about simple respect for another human being but I wouldn't go that far to call her "Miss". She show's no respect for others or herself. She can do what she want's don't get me wrong. But, she doesn't deserve our respect and she hasn't earned it. I don't think she got the upper hand though. The McCain campaign just laughed it off and made a joke of her ad. Making it unimportant. Barack is a celebrity. He's a candidate also. I've just never been one to really care about celebrity. I grew up learning no matter how rich you are or famous you still have hardships, you still feel joy, and you still bleed just like the rest of us.

Shane~~~I don't assume anything of you. You want a debate then we can do this. About the lies and deceit. The Democrats are just as guilty. Our government is broken and our politics corrupt. Brains have nothing to do with understanding. I understand the game being played. Maybe I jumped the gun with you but if you attack the Republicans for morals, lies, and deception then you need to look at the Democrats we have in office right now. The solutions to our economy are easy to fix. But they won't do it. Why? Because they want to be in control politically. Their job is to do what's best for us. This war will continue for decades...not Iraq but against terrorists. Most Americans care about qualilty of life and gas prices. I for the war on terror. I've lost friends there just like you may have. If I had to go back I would. So, if you want an intelligent debate then let's do this.

Kim in Harrisburg~~~I'm not in a dream world. You will never believe anything good about Republicans, conservatives, or Bush. A photo op? I don't think it's me in the dream world. Where's your proof to back up everything you claim. I don't believe Obama is Muslim. I do know how Islam works and he did attend a madrassa as a child. Technically then he would've been a muslim which then means he couldn't leave. But, I know many have. So, I won't believe he's one until there is proof. But you, you hate Bush no matter what you know or don't know. I don't hate Obama. I just don't agree with him.

    Vince in California,

You are absolutely wrong as you don't know anything about me. I was a Republican until 2004 when I just could not take the Lies, deceit and corruption of the Bush administration anymore, and as to Moral fiber I was speaking specifically about comparing Obama, without any factual foundation or basis to two horrific Tyrants. You do't know my stand on the issues you spoke of about me which shows your ignorance and assumtive nature, which is always the way of the uninformed. And by the way I was in the Military as are many from both parties so find some actual brains if you are going to try to have a debate!

Jo Ann Schloe~~~It means she should've got a job. And don't believe every rumor you hear. Isn't that what you tell us whenever something about Obama comes out?

  13. Kim in Harrisburg

Vince in CA....you really are living in your own personal dream world. Do you want to know why a black preacher married Bush's daughter..does the word 'photo-opt' ring a bell to you. I wouldn't put anything past the Republicans at this point including using their own children's 'special day' to further ingratiate themselves with people like youself who see and hear only what they want to. And it's amazing that you would consider that campaign ad a 'joke'...it wasn't a joke until McSenile's crew screwed up and made it one once Miss Hilton got the upperhand. I just hope this country has had enough of the lies and money-grubbing that has gone on in the last eight years and has the guts and the sense to elect someone who is qualified but not saturated in stench of the usual political bullsh*t..

Kent Fitzsimmons,Kewanee, IL~~~If that's how the Obama's get into the White House, by reservation, then there is something terribly wrong. You earn the White House. It's not reserved. How pretentious can people be?

  15. Vince in CA

Shane~~~You shouldn't speak on morals when your candidate supports third term abortions and even just borns. You are the same people that claim Bush is the devil or McCain is feeble and too old. You ignore the "morals" of Ted Kennedy. All of your veteran politicians were "soft foot almost concienous objectors". And you hang on every word they tell you. The same people that called Marines, like myself, nothing but "mercenaries" raping women and killing children. Yeah, you don't have much moral ground to stand on either then.

Gary Chandler in Canada~~~I sure hope you can't vote. You are so misinformed. If you want to take advice and comments as gospel from Clark then go ahead and close the box around you. Clark couldn't even handle his job when things in the world weren't nearly as bad.

If, you want to look into McCains past relationships, then I am sure some people will only be more than happy to look further into Obamas. Maybe McCain thought his wife was, by far better looking than any of the other women.

John McCain was married before "Miss Bucks" entered his life. Rumor has it that Mrs. McCain number one was left without any money when he left her. What does that say about his character? I think it stinks.

He was reading it from a music stand! Get it? He was reading it!!! He talked to Cindy BEFORE going on stage. She gives 'thumbs up' to shaking her booty.
UTube is having a field day with this one! just search Cindy McCain
plus eat a banana, pour sugar, pimped out, exploited.
Nobody is paying any attention to McCain's lack of military leadership, like General Clark pointed out, and his highly dangerous comments about Russia and China.
He keeps shooting himself in the foot, but this time he shot himself in the stomach.
Oh, and, today he tells America to put more air in their tires!!!???
    Can a candidate be impeached?

Donna in ID~~~I agree. Obama can't and won't even debate against McCain. How are we supposed to trust him to negotiate anything with other foreign powers? There are too many liberals with no sense of humor. It's amazing how many jokes fly right past them. They give you that vacant, no one is home stare. Or they get their soft petal feelings trampled on. But, they'll call Bush and idiot, racist, moron, retarded, redneck, or any other term they can come up with. If Bush was so racist why did a black preacher marry his daughter and son-in-law?

No, here is what McCain actually did, and if Obama had done it his candidacy would be over, especially if as posters herein say he was reading from prepared statements then those who prepared them should be fired immediately!!!

Yesterday John McCain offered his wife up to be in the Sturgis Motorcycle Run beauty contest, which is actually a strip off and then a banana eating contest to show skills, and whomever is the best at both wins, (of which Mc Cain said she could be both first lady and the winner of that contest too). McCain, or at least his people should have known this and that is certainly nothing to joke about in a Presidential campaign for the most important and serious job in the world.

Why is that not covered as showing what kind of judgment McCain has? Isn’t how he uses his wife in the campaign a major issue just like Michelle always is to the media? Hmmm curious… Imagine what would have happened if Obama had offered his wife up for a strip off and Banana eating contest, under any circumstances… Can you imagine the incredible negative media blitz and the utter destruction of his candidacy!

I'll take someone who may tell a bad joke once in awhile, whether from his writers or not, then someone who knowingly hires a mulititude of corrupt, race baiting people. Obama's campaign workers are known for bending the truth and lying repeatedly about McCain and conservatives until people actually believe them. Bad jokes don't cause the downfall of a nation. Bad policy and judgement do. I wander what people's home lives are like who think what McCain said is "so awful". I feel sorry for their spouses. Unless they're just as dull as they other half.

    August 6, 2008 at 1:22 pm |

Senator McCain was reading from notes that his campaign workers gave to him . They of all people should have known what this contest was about. The people working his campaign will be hired into the White House if he were to win – we are going to be in big trouble – most the the time the people working for you will do the research and present it to the person in charge and decisions are made from that research.

Alexa D~~Hey "sweety". It's called a joke. Atleast he was being inadvertantly disrespectful. Democrats only feel something is a joke if it's about Bush or other conservatives. Every other joke goes right over your heads. What about your friend Bill. Didn't he have a little "fun" in the Oval Office? Many Democrats thought that didn't matter because it had nothing to do with his political business.

I have to laugh with McCain. My late dad had his type of sence of humor. Dry and sometimes snide and diggy. There are to many touchy young people that don't understand different types of humor. If it isn't Leno or Letterman nothing is funny,
Now something that isn't funny. In going through my email this AM my
New York times has an article about Obama's fund raisers. I really think that people should be looking into it. He was setting up financing for a Pres. run before he was even elected Sen. There are a lot of big names and lobbiests that would secure a huge foothold in the White house. Would like to know more names and what is coming in from other countries. Now to me something sounds damn well fishy with this whole Dem. campaign. I have been saying for a yr that this guy scares the H- out of this old lady with all his change and fast talking and I don't like his body language. I have been calling him a "snake oil salesman"
since he stands up in front of people that are gullible with his so called answer for every problem and ailment of this country. So many people are getting brain washed.
There was a man in the 30's that promised change to Germany and another in the 50's that made the promises to Cubans.

I have been trying to find a web site for barack to communicate with the candidate. All the web sites searched ask for donations, but not one has given an opportunity to offer comment. I am wondering what that says about my candidate. I am tired of all this foolish back and forth insults. They are adults seeking to run our country and this is what we are getting. Something is wrong. I want both candidates to speak on the issues. That is what I am concerned about and still want to hear about. What is the problem with these grown men. Our country is in a battle for its existence and we have two leaders bickering over nonsence. What has become of our country and its political process. "God Bless America"
