Golf can get so deadly serious

I realize I should be concentrating on more important matters today, but I am currently obsessed with one of the more remarkable lawsuits I have ever encountered.

Andrew Giuliani, son of the former presidential candidate and mayor of New York City, is suing Duke University for throwing him off the varsity golf team.

The gist appears to be that the coach of the team, O.D. Vincent (great name!), decided to cut the number of players on the team, and Andrew, who is a rising senior, was one of the players to get the axe.

He also appears to have been pretty unpopular with his teammates. According to an email attached to the complaint, five other Duke golfers wrote him in April to say that “we have come to the unanimous decision that we wish that your involvement with the Duke Golf Team is terminated.”

Andrew, alas, may not be such a terrific golfer either. The website for the golf team shows that he had the twelfth best record on the team, only played in two tournaments, and finished 33rd in his best finish of the year.

Read the complaint here.

Read about Duke golf here.

According to the complaint, Andrew came to Duke because he thought the university could help him achieve his dream of becoming a professional golfer. That’s not looking so good at the moment.

Editor's Note: Jeffrey Toobin claims to have a 17 handicap.

    Jeffrey,
Long time since we've had you on here! You need to blog way more!

It seems people will sue over any little thing now. This is the stupidest lawsuit ever! Obviously Andrew was cut from the team because he wasn't any good. He needs to get a life and move on. What does he want, back on the team even though he sees that they don't want him there? That is ridiculous.
