Morning Buzz: Satire or tasteless?

Morning folks...

Barack Obama's campaign is condemning it....calling it “tasteless and offensive”...the "it" is a New Yorker magazine cover that depicts Obama in a turban, fist-bumping his gun-slinging wife. Plus, the cartoon shows an American flag burns in their fireplace. The New Yorker says it's satire. Is it? Or does it cross the line? We will definitely be talking about this tonight....

Jessica Yellin will be LIVE for us tonight from the NAACP convention where both Barack Obama and John McCain vie for African-American votes this week...a stop along the campaign trail with potential opportunities and pitfalls for both candidates. Obama will speak tonight!! On the surface, the convention should be a love fest between the African-American attendees and the first African American with a real chance of being elected president. BUT "racial disparity will remain an issue in America, regardless of whether Barack Obama is elected as the nation's first black president..." the chairman of the NAACP told the organization's national convention Sunday night.

Barack Obama is making headlines in the NY TIMES today...he has an op-ed titled: My Plan for Iraq

Here is an excerpt: THE call by Prime Minister Nuri Kamal al-Maliki for a timetable for the removal of American troops from Iraq presents an enormous opportunity. We should seize this moment to begin the phased redeployment of combat troops that I have long advocated, and that is needed for long-term success in Iraq and the security interests of the United States....

On another front...Obama is also calling for the Administration to step up or "re-up" efforts in Afghanistan – no longer the forgotten war....

Nine Americans were killed over the weekend–and US deaths in the past month already exceed those in Iraq. Senator Barack Obama is proposing that the United States deploy about 10,000 more troops to battle resurgent forces in Afghanistan, a plan intended to shift the American military focus from the Iraq war to the marked rise in violence from the Taliban. We will will talk to Peter Bergen and Nic Robertson about the situation in Afghanistan and the reality of Obama's plan....

The prosecutor of the International Criminal Court was expected by diplomats to seek the arrest TODAY of the Sudanese president on charges of genocide in a five-year campaign of violence in the country's Darfur region. But the ruling National Congress Party of Omar Hassan al-Bashir has warned of "more violence and blood" in the huge western region of Darfur if the president is charged...The ICC warrant would make al-Bashir the first sitting president to be indicted for genocide. If it happens, we will bring you the latest...

AND finally - Drew Griffin is Keeping Them Honest tonight - When Drew reported on AC360 a few months ago that less than 1% of flights here in the United States have air marshalls on them, the TSA went on a witch hunt...checking not just TSA staff office email and calls - but also their private ones. And it falsely accused at least one staff member. How can TSA get away with this? Because it was created after 9/11, and internal spying of the kind forbidden at the FBI after J.Edgar Hoover is not only permitted–it's part of the mission.

ALL for now...but it is still early...

If this satire is so funny, why don't the artist and editor of The New Yorker go to the NAACP and hand out copies. See if it will still be funny then. This is an outrage to sell copies!!!! This is why Obama had to move his message to the center because of these left wing nut jobs.

    Smart move Obama 08!!!!!!
