Saving the levees, deer in the water

At Shaffer farm, just north of Quincy, Illinois, folks have been sandbagging for a week.
So far the levees are holding but there's major concern. About 100 volunteers are working 18-hour days.
"The levees ain't gonna save themselves!" one volunteer told us
Local Menonites are volunteering. The Red Cross is providing meals.
We are now following a police officer down to a high water area. He took amazing pictures of deer in the water. I'm going to look for the deer, too.

I hope the levees hold and that the weather doesn't make things worse by raining more in that region. So much water – nature has not been kind to this region so far this year. The people and that deer you are looking for badly need things to break their way now.

Katrina 2005. Levees are breached, Major catastrophe. Flooding in upper Mississippi River Valleys 2008. Levees are breached, and in danger of breaching further downstream. Major catastrophe again. The Army Corp of Engineers, and the Federal Government by default, were responsible for the levees in New Orleans. Are they also responsible for the levees further north on the Mississippi? How much has government interference or the lack of governmental support contributed to the decay of our infrastructure, flooding of our waterways beyond flood plains, and erosion of our natural resources? Sure would like to see Anderson Cooper tackle this in "Keeping Them Honest."
It is crazy what all is going on there. It does remind you of Katrina but thankfully with no deaths. I hope that those levees hold! And I hope that those deers got out of that water and to safety!
