Morning Buzz

Morning folks...

Today's papers are wall to wall with excerpts from the new Scott McClellan book...The former White House spokesman who defended President Bush's policies through Hurricane Katrina and the early years of the Iraq war is now BLASTING his former employers, saying the Bush administration became mired in propaganda and political spin and at times played loose with the truth. In excerpts from a 341-page book to be released NEXT Monday, Scott McClellan writes on Iraq that Bush "and his advisers confused the propaganda campaign with the high level of candor and honesty so fundamentally needed to build and then sustain public support during a time of war." "[I]n this regard, he was terribly ill-served by his top advisers, especially those involved directly in national security," McClellan wrote. Politico.com broke the story last night, we had it at the top of our show and I am sure as the day unfolds, there will be more reaction from the White House and from former White House advisers...so we will bring you the latest...

The other big story this morning (which we did last night, too) looks at Barack Obama and how the Republican Party is accusing him of a lack of judgment after the Illinois senator mistakenly said that his uncle helped liberate the Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz while serving in the American military during World War II...

In fact, that concentration camp was liberated by Soviet soldiers in 1945. Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton released a statement later Tuesday clarifying the remarks, saying the Illinois senator meant to refer to the Buchenwald camp, which American soldiers did liberate. Obama was also apparently referring to his great uncle, Charles Payne. The core of the story being TRUE..his Uncle did aid in the liberation of the Buchenwald Camp...BUT man oh man this a prime example of what is to come in the general election...EVERY WORD will be analyzed and scrutinized..so stay tuned.

AP is reporting this morning that a Democratic Party rules committee, which meets this Saturday, has the authority to seat some delegates from Michigan and Florida but not fully restore the two states as Hillary Rodham Clinton wants, according to party lawyers. Democratic National Committee rules require that the two states lose at least half of their convention delegates for holding elections too early, the party's legal experts wrote in a 38-page memo. The memo was sent late Tuesday to the 30 members of the party's Rules and Bylaws Committee...if this is indeed to final final decision by the rules committee we will tell you about it tonight...

Obama is in Thornton, Colorado today...will he and McCain continue their war of words? Candy Crowley is on the trail. Hillary Clinton spends the day in South Dakota, the site of Tuesday's PRIMARY...AND I know it's hard to believe, but Tuesday is indeed the last Primary. Bill Clinton is in Puerto Rico this week...This past weekend his words made headlines when he said “he's never seen a candidate treated as "disrespectfully" as HRC.” With only a few days left in this campaign, who knows what else he may say…Jessica Yellin is along for the ride...

PLUS David Mattingly is still on the ground in Texas awaiting the Texas Supreme Court decision surrounding the fate of the 400 plus kids... AND we hope to bring you the Sean Callebs piece tonight looking at the plight of Patrick Kennedy...On March 2, 1998 an 8-year-old girl was raped in a Harvey, LA, a New Orleans suburb. Patrick Kennedy, her step father was the rapist. A family abuse specialist testified it was the worst sexual attack he’d ever seen. On August 14, 2003 a Jefferson Parish jury found Kennedy guilty, in spite of no physical or DNA evidence linking him to the crime. He was sentenced to the death penalty, the first time in decades a person was sentenced to death for a rape. In April the US Supreme Court heard oral arguments on the case and will determine this week if the punishment fits the crime?

Stay tuned...it is still early...so much can happen between now and 10 pm....

I think that Scott McClellan wrote all of that junk in his book because he knew that it would sell and make him some big money!! If he didn't agree with what was going on then why did he stay on so long!? He only did the book to get back at Bush and to earn some easy money. Payback is a "B"!! He better know that!!

I think that Obama is getting off WAY too easy on his Auschwitz lie!! A lie is a lie no matter how you spin it. He wanted to make himself and his family look BIG military wise since McCain had attacked him about not being in the military ever. He is getting a free pass because he is the media darling! If Hillary had said anything like that she would have been mercilessly attacked!! So why does Obama get a free pass!? I hope the Reps keep drilling him on it!! Someone needs to since the media won't! You can't lie and get away with it. It always bites you in the end. If he lied about that what else does he lie about?
