Erica’s News Note: Power in your hand

Erica Hill
360° Correspondent

We just passed the one year anniversary of the shootings at Virginia Tech, but these wounds are understandably still very raw, and likely to be for some time. Which is why I was so surprised to read the owner of an online gun store that sold on of the guns used by Seung-Hui Cho spoke at the school. The event – sponsored by the Students for Concealed Carry of Campus organization – was about just that. A topic and a talk stronlgy opposed by the school’s administration.

"Free speech is a hallmark of university life," Virginina Tech spokesman Larry Hincker said. "Still, I find it terribly offensive to learn that the gun-seller of the weapons used in the Virginia Tech campus murders would set foot on this campus. “
Tough to imagine our lives without this blog, the internet to get us here, email, cell phones…and all the conveniences they bring us. They can also be incredibly useful – just ask UC Berkeley grad student James Buck. In Egyot covering an anti-government protest, Buck suddenly found himself and his translator arrested. Luckily, he was able to keep his cell phone, and send a message to his friends letting them know what happened.

In a matter of seconds, his friends in Egypt and co-workers back home knew he’d been detained.

Suddenly, what began as a project for his master’s thesis (on “new leftists and the blogosphere") took on an eerie new meaning. While Buck was eventually released, his translator was not. Now cyberspace is helping to support a global plea for information on the translator who is still missing, possibly still behind bars. There is so much more to this story, I encourage you to check it out.
This is classic. I’ve heard of a man room, not a man cave… but from what I gather, they’re pretty much the same thing. Here’s the lowdown on this slice of testosterone heaven. Two neighbors, one building his man cave, decide to wager a little bet when the cave-owner-to-be starts losing weight. The stkaes? Who ever gets down to 200 pounds first mows the other guy’s lawn in a dress.

Yes. A dress.

Ands, it turns out, accessories, too. I applaud the accessories – they really can make an outfit.

I think you need to see the pictures to get the full effect, and lucky you, I’ve got the link. Enjoy!

I am a political independentt. I watched Rev Wright's introduction and his speech at NAACP in its entirety. Then came the comments and farce analyses directed by Rich Sanchez.
First, Rev Wright does not speak for Obama. Second, Obama did not send Rev Wright to speak for him (Obama) at the NAACP meeting. Third, the NAACP invited and endorsed Rev Wright's appearance and speech at the NAACP meeting. Fourth, the NAACP represents the African American people.
Therefore, attempts to link Rev Wright's speech with Barack Obama, or his political campaign, is distorting and divisive. By the same token, asking (super delegates) about the impact Rev Wright's speech can have on Obama's campaign is far-fetched. Let's keep the political process objective and clean, else what we see in the analyses of the speech is nothing but an illustration of the race card in its crudest form.

He looks good in a dress – maybe one that isn't so low cut would be better but that pink dress with all its accessories really make him look "lovely". I couldn't tell about his shoes – but I hope they were high heels.

Great show last night – you and Campbell did a great job. I hope you get to anchor again soon.

The man cave story gave me a much needed giggle today. He really should have gone for a snazzier pair of shoes though!
