Morning Buzz

Morning folks...Anderson if OFF tonight and Campbell Brown will help us out....

On the political front...Obama is ALSO taking the day off...but there is NO TIME OFF for Hillary Clinton. She is spending the day in North Carolina, hoping to close a big lead that the latest polls show Obama has there.... Candy Crowley will give us the latest on the campaign trail. But we plan to dig a little deeper into WHY Obama cannot close out this deal? WHY has he been unable to win over enough working-class and white voters to wrap up the Democratic nomination? Is the dem party hesitating for some reason as it moves towards nominating an African-American to be president? Because just when it seemed that the Democratic Party was close to anointing Obama, he lost yet again in a big general election state, pulled down by his weakness among blue-collar voters, older voters and white voters. So we will chew that over...

Crime is up or it certainly feels like it is out of control....The headlines in Chicago "Five dead in southside...." and that was after a bloody weekend....In Newark, New Jersey, "8 shot" and in New Orleans there were 8 killed this week alone. AND Los Angeles has racked up 86 murders this year so far...what the heck is going on? David Mattingly investigates...

AND we will dip back into Polygamyland tonight....The Polygamist sect children continue to be placed in foster homes AND DNA testing completed....BUT in Colorado, a court document says a phone number used to report alleged abuse at a polygamist retreat in Texas had been used previously by a Colorado woman. SO Who is this woman? Rozita Swinton. Gary Tuchman introduces us to the he 33 year old woman who's phony phone calls may have set off the raid on the Texas polygamist compound. She appears to be a deeply troubled person. She has been arrested and prosecuted successfully in the past for not only making phony calls..but doing it with the same basic story...that she is a 16 year old being sexually abused. According to police papers obtained by CNN, she has made scores of such calls over the last three years, and says she has multiple personalities. We have tapes of her being interrogated by police, and talk to the cop who interrogated her. Despite information that shows her phone was used to call Texas authorities before the raid, the Texas Rangers say they are still looking for Sarah, the girl many think is now an imaginary creation of Swinton. AND is the Pentagon Funding Polygamy? Turns out the department of defense entered into 1.7 million dollars worth of contracts with three companies owned by leaders of Warren Jeffs’ FLDS sect. Money from those contracts was funneled to Jeffs and his church. Correspondent Randi Kaye is keeping them honest with confirmation from the Pentagon and an affidavit that shows the money was sent from the companies to the church. Even worse, some of the contracts were entered into after Jeffs was put on the FBI’s Most Wanted List.

AND can you believe that the retail chain Sam's Club will limit the sale of large quantities of rice? Due to a dramatic increase in the global price of rice. The store will limit customers to four 20-lb. bags of jasmine, basmati and long-grain white rice....Gas prices are at all time high and we cannot buy large quantities of rice? What the heck is going on?

What if the nomination is snatched from Obama?, and he decides to switch party in mid flight, and ask his supporters to follow, giving the republican party the largest percentage of black voters ever, and with such influence push for advancement of the black needs.

Please stop parroting Clinton's "Why can't Obama close the deal?" line. Why did she lose half of her 25 point lead in Pennsylvania? Why is Obama getting super-delegates at 12 to 15 times the rate as she is? He IS closing the deal.

She's punching bellow the belt when she saw her lead slipping below 5 points. It got back some of the more gullible voters, but failed to give her her 20 point lead she needed to start to close the delegate gap.

I think Erica is just great! I thought she came to New York to be the "Official Sub" for Anderson Cooper – however I really think she could do her own show, she really is the up and coming new star for CNN.

Maybe the question of why can't Sen. Obama close the deal should become why can't Sen. Clinton close the deal. After all, she began the campaign as the presumptive heir apparent to the nomination and assumed it would be over by Super Tuesday, so........what happened?

Nothing against Campbell Brown. I think she is great. I just don't understand why Campbell has to sub for Anderson. She already hosts her own show.
Erica should be the official Sub! She did a great job last time. It was her first time as well. I just don't understand why CNN doesn't allow her to sub. I'm sure a lot of viewers agree.
Well if Anderson is off tomorrow as well, I hope they give Erica a chance to do it tomorrow.

The GOP has a set nominee prior to the convention. Whereas the democrats will have a tete a tete over the super delegates to choose their nominee. What a lovely day it is today Anderson.

I watched Planet in Peril last night and it was really good. Doctor Sanjay was really great and Anderson is of course great he must be starting to believe that he is by now :).... However I am in Peril after watching the show as my heart is broken because of the illegal animal trade that is such a huge money maker in China. Why do they have to consume so many different kinds of extinct species? If it is to save my childs life or anyones life that is one thing but just to eat?

Its like lemmings to turtles to dogs and more...I can believe the body parts they eat. Paws, penises... That is just wrong.

And I am very distraught about the bears and how they farm the bile from the live bears. I know if it is to save a human life I am actually okay with that but that is wear I draw the line. And I don't like to see them suffereing as I love bears so much and I cried when I saw the bear with his side cut open and having the bile drained from him.
    Poor thing should be free.

Thanks for the show and the awareness that it brings. Hopefully more of us will come out and try to do our part to put a stop to the needless destruction of animals.

    Just stop it already. omg
It is such an enourmous waste of life.

Jenine in Peril with all of us animal lovers

I will be looking forward to Randi's report on how much money the sect was and is earning. What's really crazy is that the sect has set up a website for people to donate to their "capturedfldschildren" fund! I have hope that this report will prevent people from funding this scam.

As for the rice issue.....Sam's Club rice limit is about the same (pound wise) as the one Costco places on their rice. I posted the note about the Costco rice limit on Erica's blog post earlier this week, so thanks for following up on this. 🙂

Good luck holding down the fort Campbell. I am looking
forward to Randi Kaye's story. Who oversees these contracts
at the Pentagon ? Is there a system of checks and balances
to make sure nothing like this happens ?

Personally, I really don't care who is ultimately the Democratic Nominee because whoever it turns out to be will get my vote. Hopefully, everyone who is concerned about our once great country and the destruction wrought upon it by the GOP Administration of the last seven years will unite behind whoever is the Democratic Nominee and give him/her a landslide victory into the White House. Further, I hope that every thinking person votes Democratic for every open office in their particular location, especially if the race is for the Senate or the House of Representatives. We need to provide a Democratic President with super majorities in both Houses of Congress so that the GOP will be relegated to a meaningless entity unable to stop the reforms so desperately needed to save our country. I ask, no I beg, that everyone who loves our country and what it should truly stand for will remember what has happened over the last seven years and vow that it will never happen again. It's the least we can do for the Founding Fathers, who pledged their lives, fortunes and sacred honor in creating the best form of government in the history of the world. To do anything less would be treason in my view.

regarding Candy and Obama not closing the deal. It was Senator Clintons deal from the beginning wasn't it? Why didn't HRC close it since she was the heir apparent to the Democratic throne? She's allowed the young upstart to blind side her. She has run a disorganized campaign couldn't manage her budget and played the worst politics ala the repubs. I'm surprised that the media gives her the air time she has so far – the Clintons have been a disaster. Meanwhile Senator Obama continues to lead in every metric that counts. Has run a phenominal campaign has raised more funds from small donors in a way that will be written about for many years to come. Nobody talks about what the Republicans would do to HRC should she 'steal' the nomination – frightening to even think about, but she continues to insist she's been vetted. But the media continues to harp on Obama not being able to close the deal. This deal is technically closed and the media insists on keeping it open.

The statement from the cable media and print publications that are stating that the exit polls from Pennsylvania state the Barrack Obama has as good of a chance as Hillary Clinton to defeat John McCain in the Fall is false. Hillary has much more loyal voters. The exit polls in Pennsylvania State that 83% of Obama voters will vote for Clinton in the Fall election if she was the nominee. However, only 57% of Clinton voters stated they would vote for Obama in the fall. What's not clear with this picture? If the Republican nominee was the typical nominee I would agree that Democrats would come home in the Fall. John McCain is not a typical Republican. He is a candidate with a lot of crossover appeal. He can grab his share of the so called Reagan Democrats and blue collar workers. Obama has a much less chance of retaining these voters. Even the media and papers are trying to spin this in Obama's favor, which is not their job. Leave that up to the campaigns and give us the objective news, PLEASE!

Yea, Campbell Brown and Erica Hill tag team tonight! Thats just more reason to watch my favorite show at 10.

Hillary really needs to get on the campaign trail here in NC, she has quite the task ahead of her, but Obama better get with it soon, both have large groups of followers here, but it looks like Obama's weigh a lot heavier.

While crime is on the rise lately, it is encouraging to see that crime in general has been dropping ever since the early to mid 90's. I mean, it is still alarmingly high but hopefully we can keep a downward trend for the future.

More on the polygamy "ranch"... Is that possible? It's crazy how we can trace calls from phones across the nation. A little weird and discomforting too...

Almost Friday, thank God. Time to study for finals. 🙁

What strikes me about this democratic process is that the national democrats feel good about a decision to punish Florida and Michigan states for voting early by not allowing a whole population of 2 states vote. Free and open elections are part of a civil democratic society. If the political leaders in these states broke the laws punish them not the 83 year old woman in the nursing home or the 22 year old college student. They had no say in the decision for the state to vote early and now they have no decision on the candidate. This sounds like something that would happen in developing countries. Everyone deserves to vote and both Obama and Clinton should want this too.

The Democratic better wake up and realize that Senator Clinton is the only hope they have of retaling the White House.

    Clinton owns the Democratic base.
Cinton has won all the important large general election states
Count Florida (where it was a fair election) and Clintin leads in the popular vote.
Seniors and blue collar voters will vote in the election due to the economy - the teens and college students that support Obama will be away at school in November and will be less reliable - Clinton's supporters will be there for her,
Clinton matches up better against McCain.
And finally, eight crucial reasons for nominating Clinton: Massachusetts, New Youk, Pennsylvania, California, Ohio, Texas, Florida, Michigan

Obama is correct. He has a problem courting the older folks in the nation. That is why Clinton came with the fear commercial which is geared at the senior citizens who are used to seeing this type of stuff from years ago. Thanks alot Clinton for more negativity.

As I've said before...............negativity breeds negativity. This is the only outcome.

Does anyone else worry about how Hillary Clinton uses numbers and loosely deals with facts? Between her own memories being exaggerated and the numbers she uses to declare victory not really hers to use yet, I worry about the information she will present to the public if she should become president. We all know that we have had eight years of overexaggerations that have caused us to be at war for the past five. What will Hillary's exaggerations bring to us? She is stretching the truth for her own gains–Is that really the type of person we want to run the White House?
