Gen. Paul Eaton: In Iraq, where is the cavalry?

ALT TEXT

The Bush administration has chosen to abandon our under-equipped and over-burdened military to fight alone in Iraq.

After successfully alienating potential allies in the prosecution of our war in Iraq, this Administration continues to view our first truly interagency war as a purely military event.  The absence of credible State Department participation in this fight and the absolute failure of the rest of the Executive Branch to participate in this war leaves the entire burden upon the shoulders of our Soldiers and Marines.

To witness press and Congressional preoccupation with the military commander at this week’s hearings and mild interest in State’s man, Ambassador Crocker, one would surmise that they don’t understand, either.

Iraq is not the plains of Germany during the Cold War.  Iraq is an insurgency.

Morning Buzz

Morning folks...

What a week? The events unfolding down in Texas at the YFZ (Yearning for Zion) Ranch has captured the headlines and our attention this week, that if for sure.  The latest... Authorities said in a press conference that when they raided the compound "nearly 60 men surrounding the temple of a polygamist sect in Texas dropped to their knees, prayed and wept openly - but never violently resisted..."  Officials wrapped up nearly a week long investigation, where they say a 16-year-old girl had called social workers and recounted being beaten, choked and sexually assaulted by the 49-year-old man who had fathered her child after their "spiritual marriage" last year. David Mattingly is still on the ground and will have the latest for us tonight...

AND since this story has captured OUR attention this week, we are planning an hour special tonight!!!POLYGAMY: HIDING IN PLAIN SIGHT –AC360 will take you inside the world of Polygamy...

Dan Simon introduces us to the "Lost Boys" - boys who either escaped or were cast out of the FLDS to allow the older men to have more wives....  Gary Tuchman takes you inside a polygamous home where 32 bedrooms are filled with somewhere between 10 to 15 wives and more than 30 children...  Randi Kaye follows the money..how do these sects survive? Is it with YOUR tax dollars?  AND we will give you a little history of the FLDS and the Mormon church...so be sure to tune in!!!

BUT before i leave you, I would be remiss not to mention a big breaking story...remember the pregnant Marine? Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach? Well, U.S. Marine Cpl. Cesar Laurean, the main suspect in the killing of the  20-year-old has been CAPTURED in Mexico after three months on the run....BUT if he fights extradition, it could take up to two years to get him back to North Carolina...We will give you latest tonight...

ALSO, a line of severe thunderstorms, tornadoes and even snow pounded the nation's heartland on Thursday, flooding nearly 200 roads in Missouri, closing schools in Arkansas and ripping the roofs of dozens of houses in Texas. So we will get you up to date on a few other stories tonight, too!

Thank GOD it is Friday...
