Live Blog from the Anchor Desk 3/12/08

Breaking News tonight in the Eliot Spitzer sex scandal.  The New York Times is putting a face to the name "Kristen" – the name of the prostitute allegedly used by Gov. Spitzer.  We have a reporter working to find out more about her.

And Silda Spitzer, for the second time this week she's been seen standing by her husband.  What message does that send to women?

We'll talk politics: Geraldine Ferraro's comment and the latest plans in Florida's primary fight.

As always, we'll start posting comments at 10p ET and close at 11p ET.  See you there!

Ferraro's comments were not racist or offensive. You on CNN have been stating whenever there is an election that Obama will get the vote if it's African American. She was stating the obvious.

Ferraro just said something without thinking and now she just have to deal with it.

Anderson doesn't even seem like he's all that into sports, why would he want the argyle yankee hat?!

Obama campaign gets no benefit from the Ferraro. He didnt try to spin it in his favor. He addressed it and then moved on. Its not even an issue.

Anderson: You're not out of fashion. My wife loves your suit and wants to know where I can get one just like it. 🙂

I like this blog because folks don't bash Hillary or Barack. A few sarcastic bashes are creeping in. What's up?

Make no mistake about it, Ferraro's remarks were a godsend for the Obama campaign. They will be able to use this to take the recent media focus off of their renewed interest in examining his career and record.

@Erica and Anderson-I think David Gergen rocks too.
He is so great at answering the question and giving points to consider for all whom listen....

    You go David Gergen.......

I agree with David. Though I don't think Geraldine Ferarro is a racist, her comments are nonetheless offensive. I have always had the position that Obama didn't run as an African-American. Frankly if the Clintons didn't mention anything about race, they wouln't have lost South Carolina and change the course of the Democratic race. The people in the Clinton camp only have themselves to blame if they lose because race became a factor.

Ferraro has lost her mind. I thought for a while that her words might have just been taken out of context, but then I saw that clip just now of her trying to play the "victimized white woman." HAH

she's obviously very overdramatic, and trying to make herself correct in a situation that is slowly biting back at her

Wow is this blog about fashion tonight?! Green ties, argyle hats, etc. lol.

Canal street Anderson...just dont get one with a crown on it....

I think Geraldine Ferraro's comment should have condemned once and then completely ignored. But I guess the Obama campaign is trying to benefit from the situation.

AC - i think the vendors down the street are showing argyle baseball hats for spring...

What Ferraro said is kind of dumb (for lack of a better word). How is it that being a minority helps you in an election? There is so much hostility in certain areas toward African Americans or women that you would think that if it had any affect on the election it would be a negative one. I think that America needs to just move passed the issue of race or gender and focus on experience and qualifications.

Ferraro isn't a racist, but she needed to step down.

    March 12, 2008 at 10:44 pm |
  32. Pat,NYC

How is it racist when she said that if Barack were a woman of ANY color he would not be where he is. Has Jesse Jackson Jr. apologized for his sexist remark by saying that Hillary didn't cry after Katrina?

    Now, isn't Obama biracial??

He can represent both the white and black people of America, if you want to categorize it that way!

    he's not just black people!

Once again, David Gergen brings the best stuff. He does the best job of giving all the sides to a story and showing everyone the facts. He is probably the best addition to ac360.

  36. Billi

Dvaid Gergen is pretty much on target most of the time BUT Hillary HAS been attacked for being a woman riding on her husband's coattails. To say that she has not been subject to this is not correct.

    March 12, 2008 at 10:43 pm |
  37. Rafael

Geraldine needs to just be a man and apologize...oh wait did I say that out loud?

The Elliot Spitzer, case is not uncommon. Some men just go out seeking things....sexually....that their wife will no lomger, or never will do, Men Fanracize on a lot of things, sex being one.

  39. Janelle, WY

I agree with Gergen! Ferraro's comment was offensive. I disagree with Berry- Obama should not have let the comment go...he had every right to respond.

Geraldine Ferrara is suffering from Alzheimer. If you are supporting your canidate speak about issues not your personal feelings

The story is premature. Whether she stands by her man remains to be seen. It has been only a few days since this story borke and she has had precious little time to process her next steps. You do not end in days a relationship that was years in the making. Let this angle go, it is unbecoming.

  42. Lisa

As a white female Mrs. Ferraro comments were offensive and take away from all the struggles that Sen Obama fought through to acheive the status that he has. Further more this is typical of the Clinton campaign in an attempt to appeal to the fear that many older white people have in them. I f the youth of this country has taught us anything it is to look at the character of a person and not the color of his skin.

If the public is shocked, let's imagine how stunned his wife is. I am sure she can't believe this is happening and is probably going through a range of emotions. She is truly a victim here, let's give her a break.

my question: where does one find an argyle yankees hat?

    March 12, 2008 at 10:42 pm |
  46. Salman

I think an honourable man would NOT put his wife through this and would go out and face the world on his own, Spitzer was having a good time alone so why should the wife face the ruthless media.

However, I think Mrs. Spitzer is a brave woman, but it is hard to end a 20 year marriage because of the children and financial matters would just make it very complicated for her.

Dave – you are partially right with your comment – but people would be looking at Obama going WOW – I do care about this country and I do want to get involved. And everyone would also be saying, "Hillary WHO?"
