Live Blog from the Anchor Desk 3/12/08

Breaking News tonight in the Eliot Spitzer sex scandal.  The New York Times is putting a face to the name "Kristen" – the name of the prostitute allegedly used by Gov. Spitzer.  We have a reporter working to find out more about her.

And Silda Spitzer, for the second time this week she's been seen standing by her husband.  What message does that send to women?

We'll talk politics: Geraldine Ferraro's comment and the latest plans in Florida's primary fight.

As always, we'll start posting comments at 10p ET and close at 11p ET.  See you there!

I know some of you feel you've had enough of this story, but I have to tell you I'm surprised. It seems everyone I speak to (and I mean the people outside of the 360 offices) brings it up. W

hat's fascinating is that there are so many levels to this story, and how men and women are reacting to it. As AC just said, it brought about a long - and v. energized - discussion today in our newsroom.

It's also getting a lot of attention because of Mr Spitzer's job at the time and because of his history.

Dr drew is awesome. his posts and segments are great. He gives background and reason behind his discussion and you guys should involve him more often.

The segment 'Stand By your Man' was totally bias for the Clintons.

The segments showed all known sex scandals except the Bill Clinton sex scandal.

Again, Cnn has proven its in the tank for the Clintons – Clinton Network News (CNN)

I find it hard to believe that Spitzers wife didn't know what was going on. Any man will tell you they don't go looking for what they are getting at home. Can we move on already?

Anderson, interviewing a pimp? So "national enquirer" of you!! I still love the show though!

@Patrick; The big deal is that he is married. I guess some guys just don't care about that. Those guys should stay single so that they can go out and get all the sex they want.

We are how we perceive and judge, To me, the Governor of N.Y. did nothing wrong. We commit to live a life of constraints which we call norms. And it is not always natural, We like to follow norms thus want to live life of a faithfull fellow and we do, even it could be hard sometime. There are some among us who will say sometime "Hell with norms". They are my kind of guys.

I think that Silda is a courageuos woman by standing by her man but I think that we have spent way too much time on a sex-scandal that does not affect the whole nation. Why not focus on the child soldiers in Ugnada or the genocide in Rwanda or the fight for democracy in Myanmar? Instead of making a family's pain a headline we should help millions of people that are suffering daily.

So was this during business hours he went to see the call girl.... and if so..what did his secretary/advisors tell people??

@ Stevy, I think you are right when you say that marriage is about sticking by your partner through the tough times. But most women would go through a stage where they wouldn't want to be anywhere near the person who had an affair which is why there are people asking why she has been standing by her husband. It isn't a normal or rational behavior to stand next to someone you promised to love and honor when they went against the vows that they took.

That's fine if a woman wants to stick by their man when he's had no regard for her or his family. By sleeping with escorts he's putting himself and her in danger of STD's. For me personally, it would be very hard for me to stay married to a man who so blatantly didn't have any respect for me or my safety. God bless the woman that do stay, they have more forgiveness than I in this situation, I guess.

The Spitzer story is very sad indeed. I feel for his wife and kids. I hope the media gives them the privacy and respect they deserve in this difficult time.

A married guy gets laid. What's the big deal? All this right wing christian nonsense makes Americans the laughingstock of the world. Maybe if people would grow up in this country, the divorce rate wouldn't be the highest in the world.

    Hi Anderson,

Here is a question for some thought: Is former Gov. Spitzer “deeply sorry” for his actions and for betraying the trust of his family and of New Yorkers or is he only sorry for getting caught and essentially commiting political suicide?? Absolute definiton of hipocrisy…Anderson, Erica, what are your thoughts???

    March 12, 2008 at 10:26 pm |
  21. Judy

This is not about the whore/prostitute – it's about Spitzer. This woman should not be profiled – she does what she does. Spitzer is the one who is wrong and what a hypocrite he is. It's wrong to be talking about "her".
    Nice tie AC.

So do you think it is possible it is a self-defense mechanism. Perhaps the wife feels that by showing up and standing there in the glare of the camera lights, she will keep the same from happening at her home. Perhaps the chance to protect what is left of her home life is worth the grief of standing there.

it seems the spitzer story has jumped the shark with everyone. I think being outside her apartment building was a little much, but i think this is an interesting story. I understand why you want other coverage though, and appreciate your honesty as always.

Ultimate hypocrisy is the fact that in December Spitzer created a human traficking commission to look at the issue of exploitation of women. What a joke!

Me too – I am tired of it Anderson. We have an election coming up and I would like to know as much about these two democratic candidates as possible – poor Hillary, I am sure it is like a kidney stone, any time you even hear about one it makes you hurt all over again.

I think it is a great thing that wives stay with their husbands during these tough times. Isnt that what marrigaes are about? Finding a life partner that can stick with you in tough times is the goal of anyone.. Former New Jersey governor's wife should go find something better to do rather seeking undue publicity over an issue that America has slept on.

"standing by your man" speaks volumes on the woman's strength of character, but what about the man's? hiding beside her skirt tails?

Why are so many surprised the escort business is so busy, and profitable? It is not hidden, check any telephone directory of any large metro area. If you are in a hotel, check the pages of the telephone directory and read the comments placed by others, mini reviews so to speak. Spitzer simply did what hundreds, perhaps thousands of others are doing right now. I personally cannot agree with this behavior, but perhaps it is typical of businessmen on a trip, safe from the prying eye...or so the Gov. thought!

  37. Michael

I am still curious to discover if now former Gov Spitzer is criminally liable...not for being a "JOHN" not for Money Laundering or Man Act offenses but what of his official responsibility as Atty General (seems his involvement goes back that far) and then Gov of the State of NY.

I believe he was criminally culpable by not reporting the activity of an on going criminal enterprise. His oath obligates him to uphold and enforce the laws of the State of NY. Crime? You tell me?

Usually enjoy your show. However I find it rather difficult to understand why there is such a fuss about Spitzer when the noise should be about REAL news... soldiers fighting overseas, oil prices soaring, U.S. Dollar falling, U.S. economy as well as others in serious trouble, starvation all over the globe and too many other important stories to list here.
C'mon , you and all of CNN can do better. Please !

I agree with Brent-This story has been overdone already. Economy, Gas prices, Wars...etc... Come on now, lets get to the business of the people and running the country and stop talking about this story now.

  41. Terri - Winnipeg Canada

Tracey...it's a good show. Anderson's tie is the star. Bright emerald green with a sophisticated stripe...it's rocking the show!

Other than that...spitzer and Anderson just finished interviewing a guy who was a "pimp"...and he explained how well some of the girls get treated. Nice to know some do get treated well...and there is a ton of money in that business...crazy.

Standing by your man should be the wife's choice. After all that she's been through, she deserves this at the very least, IMO.

Here we go again...Why the wife stands next to the husband.?
Who cares it is their choice, not the public'.

Anderson Cooper I am more than surprised you will use your time slot to interview an ex pimp or the so called king of pimps about his previous activities. All in all I find this interview very disgusting to say the least. Why do have to such extents in discussing Spitzer's resignation? Please wise up and next time use your slot for more productive services.

Hi Anderson, do you know why CNN int. is not taking daylight- saving time in acount and showing AC 360 in the same timeslot? We have to wait another hour for the delayed showing...Without the live aspect to it.

MODERATOR: Cheryl, we'll look into it and get back to you.

@ Nadia.... Mrs Spitzer may be just as savvy a negotiator as he is. She may have agreed to stand by his side in her own personal leverage after this is done...and the divorce begins.
