There's the sex, of course. But there are also the suspicious money transfers to a shell corporation, and then the sheriff of Wall Street himself allegedly caught speaking on a federal wiretap.
How does a man who made himself the nation's most feared prosecutor trip himself up so easily, completely, repeatedly on the tools of his own trade?
Everyone's talking about power and sex, of course.. But Elliot Spitzer's case also raises other questions. For example, does hubris makes you sloppy, or even stupid? Does being a straight arrow your whole life make you more likely to shoot yourself in the rear one day?
And on some level, did he want to get caught–or was he just enjoying getting away with it?

All political or moral speculations aside, the man has a sexual addiction problem, and therefore all bets are off. Risking his family, job, career, and community responsibilities is the sign of a serious unchecked addiction, combined with the entitlement issues that power and money create – a lethal combination.
Why is everone trying to make excuses for Eliot Spitzer?
If he laundered money by sending his playmate(s) funds to offshore accounts–prosecute him. Get the service providers for income tax evasion. Remember Al Capone?
If he prosecuted other prostitution rings but did not mention or attempt to shut down the operation he was a participant in is he not guilty of conspirancy or considered a party to organized crime? If so prosecute him.
As for his family, I feel so very sorry for the wife and children for having to endure the humuliation of his actions. I would suggest an agressive lawyer be obtained to help with a fair settlement for the pain the family has/will endure.
The bottem line is – get Spizer out of office – but don't merely give a sentence for less than a poor person would get for stealing a loaf of bread!
Thanks for your consideration.
