Treating heroin addiction

Tracey Helton Mitchell is a self-described suburban mom raising three young children. But 15 years ago she was a junkie living on the streets of San Francisco. At thetime she said she fully expected to die of an overdose. She allowed herself to be filmed for a documentary called "Black Tar Heroin." Anderson takes a look at that film and speaks to Tracey about how her life has changed.

Anderson spoke with Dr. Drew Pinsky about the challenges of treating patients addicted to heroin.

Philip Seymour Hoffman and the heroin epidemic

The death of actor Philip Seymour Hoffman comes as authorities warn heroin addiction in the U.S. is soaring. Anderson discussed the problem with Dr. Drew Pinsky who says the rising price of prescription pills is forcing more drug abusers to "graduate to heroin."
Gary Tuchman visited a rehab center where the director says he cannot remember ever seeing as many people coming in addicted to heroin.
