Many democrats are urging stricter background checks for gun purchases. But nobody is talking about the details of those checks, and there are significant limitations. COnsider if you check for a felony conviction, you need to check at the Federal level ( one database) and also at the state level ( 50 databases). At the state level there are felony records by county, and not all counties are automated, which means if you wish to check on a felony, you must visit the court house records. Also, you need to check each individual state - if someone has a felony in Florida but buys a gun in Texas, that felony will not show up unless the TX gun dealer check both TX and FL. So before we accept Dem proposals to do comprehensive background checks and this this is an easy thing to do, let's understand the limitations, time, and costs – which are substantial and ask the question - What is the scope of those checks that Dems believe is reasonable...

in one of your programs, few days ago, a question was asked, but was not answered . the question was if a child of a muslim father should follow his father's religion. the answer is yes and when president Obama was elected i warned the white house that the president should have special protection, especially in friendly muslim countries because some muslims may consider him apostate, because he is christian.

Robin Paul, a VA employee, has publicly published skits mocking disabled veterans committing suicide. She's made Christmas ornaments using SUICIDAL VETERANS as a theme, and put them on her Christmas tree, and strung them into her Christmas lights.

Why is there no law against this treason?

There may be no legislative law, but my gut tells me there's a NATURAL LAW against it, and I think we all know what that implies.

As a 100% service-connected disabled veteran who's father was a veteran who killed himself, I sincerely hope that any of the 22 veterans per day considering suicide DON'T kill themselves–but if they're going to anyway, would anyone REALLY blame them if they MURDER Robin Paul first? I'm not saying MURDERING Robin Paul would be right, but it's not like they can be prosecuted for MURDERING Robin Paul. What kind of example would MURDERING Robin Paul set for other VA employees likely responsible for the negligent homicide of countless disabled veterans given lower priority than cop-killers injured committing felonies?

I'm not saying they should MURDER Robin Paul–but if someone did MURDER Robin Paul, would anyone really mind? If they did MURDER Robin Paul, would you really miss her?

Again, I would never say I think anyone should MURDER Robin Paul. I'm not saying MURDER Robin Paul at all. I would never encourage anyone who wants to MURDER Robin Paul and sees her crossing the street to MURDER Robin Paul by gunning it and hitting her with your car. I would never suggest that anyone wanting to MURDER Robin Paul wait in the parking lot and MURDER Robin Paul by blowing her head off in a drive-by as she arrives at work. To MURDER Robin Paul would be wrong. It would definitely be wrong for a jogger wanting to MURDER Robin Paul to rapidly slash her jugular while running by, or for anyone wanting to MURDER Robin Paul to make her car to explode when she gets into it.

Certainly, I would discourage anyone tempted to MURDER Robin Paul from plastering her picture all over the web with false statements about her insulting Islam. Don't do that–especially not on Al Jazera.

I'm certainly not encouraging anyone to MURDER Robin Paul, certainly not any veterans who would love to MURDER Robin Paul, or even their grieving families who'd love to MURDER Robin Paul for delighting in the pain of heroes driven to insanity and death protecting her, and spitting in the faces of their widows and orphans who get to spend the rest of their lives suffering the loss of an amputated loved one. Being the son of a veteran who killed himself, I can tell you from direct experience, the VA MAKES NO PROSTHETICS FOR THAT.

...so, in closing, on the topic of MURDERING Robin Paul, I want to be absolutely clear about MURDERING Robin Paul to anyone who might be tempted to MURDER Robin Paul.

Even if MURDERING Robin Paul put a huge smile on every veteran's face in America, it would be wrong to
    MURDER Robin Paul.

Obey the law, and whatever you do, don't MURDER Robin Paul.

I actually gasped today when I saw the footage of John McCain and his outrageous behavior in the Senate today. He should be removed or suspended from the Senate just like our children are from school. His comment was inappropriate and slanderous. What a great example he is setting for children, our nation and our international community.

Please everyone go on CNN and comment. Comment on local news facebook pages. Parents make sure that you have a discussion with your children of its inappropriateness. Teachers use it as a discussion for character education. Let us take this negative and offensive remark and teach with it as we have done before when negative events give us an opportunity for a positive response and outcome.

John McCain...And You Represent Who? The Bullies!
I do believe that our Senate needs to spend time learning Emotional Intelligence behaviors. I am so angry that it has rendered me speechless!!!! Doesn't happen often!

Take this man to task, everyone!!!! Karen

To begin with, sorry this post is so long, I just wanted to make these points to improve our foreign policy, if nothing else this post will make you think.
As the terrorists are using propaganda to try to recruit and infect people with the cancer of hate, we need new creative ways to counteract this hate from metastasizing even further. Just like real cancer, a person needs to be as healthy as can be to prevent this disease from getting worse; the world needs to be as healthy as can be as well.
First, How many times have parents drove with two kids in the back seat and they are fighting. The best remedy is to build a wall between them. They ought to do the same between the fighting sects (Sunnis, Shiites, Kurds) as well. They ought to draw a line between them and build a wall.
The problem with the existing borders of the Middle East, it was drawn by the west after WWII, and they placed warring sects together within a country. It just does not work. There ought to be a new worldwide summit to redraw the lines of the Middle East and build walls with checkpoints between warring sects. There could be three layers of walls, the outer walls/checkpoints managed by the respective countries and the inner checkpoints managed by the UN; it will keep both sides honest.
Second, if you have kids and it is really hot, they get grumpy and fight with their siblings more. You have heard of the broken window theory when it comes to fighting crime (just google it.) I believe in the heat hypothesis when dealing with the constant fighting in the Middle East. One way to end the conflict in the Middle East is to pray for a major winter storm and bitter cold temperatures.
Studies prove in big cities that experience the polar vortex, crime goes down as a result. There was a rare winter storm and biter cold temperatures in the Middle East and for the first time in three years, there were no casualties one day in the Syrian conflict. War is h*ll and the expression "it will be a cold day in h*ll" rings true for the fighting in the Middle East to ever stop.
Studies also prove crime goes up whenever the temperatures get very high. Obviously, it gets really hot in the Middle East and it seems to cause HOT tempers. Many apartments in the Middle East do not have AC and this does not help with any peace process.
You will note Saudi Arabia has been free of conflict, is it with all that oil money, more apartments have AC? Building apartments with AC and cooling centers at markets may help reduce the conflicts in the Middle East. Though, there are always many reasons for something to occur, like religious interpretations. The heat may be strong second reason. Let's hope for global cooling and the benefits to come from this, including Middle East peace.
You will say this conflict occurs during the cooler months, this likely started during the hot months and just continues from this time forward. One family may have had a loved one killed and this produced extreme hatred to the people who did this, and that is why this conflict continues all year round.
Third. A new world wide Middle Eastern summit must include economic solutions as well. Again Saudi Arabia has the economy to prevent the conflicts; therefore the same opportunities must take place where war is present. For example, they have the hot sunny weather to grow food and they have a big body of water to perhaps install fish farms. Oil pipelines could be placed through various countries to shipping ports. In exchange for money to these countries for using their land, this too will raise the income of poor Middle Eastern countries. The more this summit produces economic answers, the less fighting will occur. This will spread new hope around the world and lessen the cancer of hate to spread as a result.
So perhaps these ideas will at least make you think of out of the box proposals to solve these Middle Eastern conflicts, which will just spread all over the world due to today's social medias capabilities. Then we may create more peace in unlikely places as a result. Then the world will be better off, in my opinion.

The new layout is very bulky and makes it hard to view the summary of news topics on the homepage. I know you guys put a lot of effort into the new site and I do not mean to be degrading, but I kindly request that you give us an option on the homepage to use the previous version, like a lot of websites do when rolling out a new look or please go back to the prior version of CNN.com.
