Ferguson Police: Video shows Michael Brown in store robbery

Six days after the fatal shooting of unarmed teen Michael Brown, police released raw video from surveillance cameras they say show Brown robbing a convenience store on the day he was killed. Many in the Ferguson community, including Brown's family were outraged that information about the robbery was released immediately following the naming of the officer who killed Brown - without specifying whether the robbery was related to the shooting. CNN's Randi Kaye breaks down the surveillance video that's generating so much controversy.

"Isn't that lying by omission?" – Don Lemon asks why Dorian Johnson didn't initially mention the convenience store robbery

As surveillance video is released from an apparent robbery at a local Ferguson, Missouri convenience store, on Friday evening Don Lemon interviewed Freeman Bosley Jr., Dorian Johnson's attorney.

Johnson appears to be depicted in the video alongside his late friend, Michael Brown.

Having initially appeared on CNN earlier in the week, Johnson failed to mention that he and his friend were involved in an incident at the store just hours before Brown was shot and killed by police.

While Bosley Jr. maintains that his client didn't lie in earlier interviews, Lemon presented an alternate perspective:

"Isn't that lying by omission," he asked.

Watch the above video to hear how the attorney answered that question, and also to learn more about Johnson's recent conversations with police following his friends death.

Jason Carroll on "who was Michael Brown"

Reporting from the ground in Ferguson, Missouri, CNN's Jason Carroll profiles 18-year-old Michael Brown, the young man shot and killed by a local police officer nearly a week ago.

In his story, Carroll presents two distinct and opposing descriptions.

In one case, friends and family members describe the teen they knew as "Big Mike" to be a gentle giant, someone whose large build was matched only by an even bigger heart.

However, surveillance video from a nearby convenience store depicts Brown as an aggressive petty thief, one who shoplifted a package of cigars on the morning of his death.

For a balanced look at the teen that was Michael Brown, watch Carroll's report above.

Ferguson Police Chief: Officer maybe saw Michael Brown carrying stolen cigars

On the same day Ferguson police announced the name of the officer who shot and killed Michael Brown, they also released video implicating the teen in a robbery. CNN's Don Lemon spoke to Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson who says the officer who killed unarmed teen Brown might have seen him carrying stolen cigars. But why did Ferguson police opt to release surveillance video of the convenience-store incident, six days after the shooting - if the two situations aren't related?
