A year after Superstorm Sandy, a family struggles with red tape

One year after Superstorm Sandy, the job of cleaning up and rebuilding is far from finished. For one Staten Island family who lost their home, the natural disaster was followed by one that was man-made and full of red tape. To rebuild, the Camaradas need a low-interest loan from the government. But they can't get it until they purchase flood insurance, which they cannot afford. Gary Tuchman has their story.

New York Congressman Pete King weighed in on the Sandy relief effort one year later.

OK, I do feel for them HOWEVER... during the HUGE winter storm we had in the midwest the first week of October there was little to NO coverage of NO power for over 3 weeks with many areas in NW South Dakota, and because the Govt was not working there was not place to report so much dead livestock or get any help from Govt at all. 30K up to 100K head of cattle, horses, sheep etc died, people lost their entire source of income and may lose their farms and ranches..... while not being able to get around in so much snow and no electricity. Lets cover that 1/5 the coverage any hurricane has gotten.... after all...... this is where a huge part of our meat and products come from to feed America!!! Does anyone care? NOPE Obama was playing golf instead of flying over the massive damages!!!!!! Tell me why farmers don't matter please!!!!!!!!!!

This storm did vast amounts of damage, but it seems America is at its strongest when disaster strikes. Our anger turns to compassion, or hatred of other of opposite mindset to helping others in need.

I wish we could learn to carry that kind of behavior into every single day, not just when disaster takes its toll upon us.
