Randi Kaye reports on the international custody battle over Elián González 13 years ago, and what's happened since then.
I wish that Elian Gonzalez and his family had ended up staying here.
Museum... typical and American to make a buck and some attention. The boy is with his father and who is to say whether Cuba is right or wrong? It's just a matter of opinion and upbringing... oh, and propaganda.
The entire Elian Gonzalez saga was an embarrassment for the United States, the Clinton Administration, the Janet Reno Justice Department and the cadre of bitter and aging Cuban ex-pats most of whom have wallowed in their resentment for the last 40 years on Miami's streets. Returning Elian to his rightful parent was the right thing to do and the only proper course of action. It was the height of foolishness that a bunch of militant right-wingers believed themselves above the law, convinced they had the right to kidnap a child against his father's wishes, in order to stick it to Cuba over political differences. Truly a shameful display.
A Cliff Note version of this news story is that the boy became a voice for the communist party and will some day be a senior party leader for the newer Castro II regime.
