I think the banning of military grade assault weapons will be an uphill battle in Congress. My proposal is not a ban on these assault weapons but to have really high fees to get a license and have to be registered and pay the fees every year – just like registering a car, your business, etc. If the fees are very steep, this will discourage people from buying/ owning them. Maybe $1000 / year to register. The data base should be a universal kind for all those that own these kinds of weapons. Should a sale be made to a third party, the registered owner should make sure that the new owner registers the weapon under the new owner otherwise, he/she will continue paying the fees or will be penalized.

This is something we can do as oppose to doing nothing. A compromise should be done.
