The AC360 Weekly Buzz: Fiscal cliff, Syrian chemical weapons threat, George Zimmerman's bloody photo, NYC subway fatality, royal baby, Romney face tattoo

What everyone’s talking about:

The fiscal cliff deadline is 27 days away, and the talks have yielded no progress. In a CNN/ORC poll taken a few weeks ago, 67% said they thought officials in Washington would behave like “spoiled children” during negotiations. Neither Republicans nor Democrats seem to be willing to compromise on the deal. Instead they’re pointing fingers, and getting nowhere. We’re Keeping Them Honest.

There are signs that the Syrian government may be preparing to unleash chemical weapons on their own people, according to a U.S. official. CNN’s Arwa Damon is currently in Syria and says civilians have no way to protect themselves from that kind of attack if it happens. Fran Townsend and Bob Baer also believe that the country’s chemical weapons are “deadly serious.” Anderson also spoke to Sen. John McCain who believes that the international community needs to take out Assad and secure the chemical weapons.

George Zimmerman’s defense released a piece of evidence from the night Trayvon Martin was shot and killed. Zimmerman’s lawyer, Mark O’Mara, told Anderson the color photo of his client’s bloody face speaks volumes of what he went through that night. The photo was previously given to the defense team as a grainy, black-and-white copy. Former L.A. Deputy District Attorney Marcia Clark discussed how this photo can affect the case and why the prosecutor shouldn’t be holding evidence.

California’s ban on a so-called therapy that claims to turn gay children and teens straight is the focus of several lawsuits. Anderson spoke to lawyer Mathew Staver who’s challenging the ban and CNN’s Jeffrey Toobin about the controversial treatment. And Dr. Drew discussed the impact on the kids subjected to it.

And good news on the other side of the pond! The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge made an early announcement they are pregnant with their first child. CNN’s Max Foster has the report on Kate’s hospitalization and her health.

Today’s Scoop:

After Monday’s fatal incident in a New York City subway station that left one man dead, many are asking questions about the bystander affect and why no one helped the 58-year-old victim off the tracks before he was killed by a train. Anderson will speak to Chad Lindsey, who was hailed as a hero when he rescued someone from the subway tracks, about his experience and why eyewitnesses to Monday’s events should not be blamed for standing back. Tune in at 8 and 10 p.m. ET.

Looking ahead:

And just when you think you’ve seen it all in the story of Warren Jeffs and his FLDS followers, CNN’s Gary Tuchman went to Utah and found hundreds of children put to work to apparently help raise money for the church in the most unlikely of ways. Watch AC360 on Thursday to see Gary's report.
