Letters to the President #1399: 'Twinkie Toodeloo'

Reporter's Note: President Obama is pretty busy, I suspect, even on weekends. For example, he still has to read these letters...

Dear Mr. President,

So the Twinkie is going away. Hostess decides to fold up after a lifetime or more of making breads, pies, and a wide variety of treats and the lowly Twinkie lovers pay the price.

I’m all for progress, but I must say I often find little developments like this really depressing. We grow accustomed to things in our world. All of us do it. We come to rely on certain companies and products and we just expect them to be there, and when they suddenly go away, it is like a little tragedy.

Oh sure, some younger folks who’ve never really grown all that attached to Twinkies or never enjoyed the wonders of Wonder Bread may not care. They’ll see this as just a lot of pre-geriatric whining for the old days. But imagine how they’d react if Starbucks suddenly shuttered its doors, or if iPhones disappeared from the market, or if Facebook went dark. Then you’d be hearing some howling, I’ll bet.

So I hope they’ll try to be a tad understanding while those of us who've been around a while slip into some short-term, low-level mourning for the Twinkie.

Mind you, I have actually never much cared for them. I found the cake a little too frothy, and the cream was just not to my taste. Give me a Krispy Kreme, glazed, cream filled doughnut any day. Still, I've always liked having the Twinkie as an option; a snack that I could reject before moving on to something else…say, a Hostess fruit pie, which is delicious!

Yes, I will miss the Twinkie for all its faults. But I suppose life moves on.

How are things with you? Can you get some sort of special presidential Twinkie hookup going? That would be sweet…

Regards,
Tom

Yeah I'm with you on the glazed cream filled doughnut. Yuuum! I voted for Obama because I know Obama can handle situations like this, just like GMC. I figure Obama wants Hostess to go bankrupt so that Hostess can implement a " win win" propersition with no extra cost.
Although I like Obama I can easily say Romney is more knowledgeable when it comes to resuscitating business.
