CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gupta explains why Rosie O'Donnell and other women can easily miss the symptoms of a heart attack.
Your show on Rosie O'Donnell's heart attack was so great in promoting the public awareness of heart attacks in women and the importance of following your instincts. I too have had 2 LAD heart attacks with the first requiring a stent and the second one requiring 4 more stents in the same artery 3 years later. My doctor told me I was atypical and had my husband not called an ambulance would most probably died while sitting on my couch.
I am writing so that you could also bring public awareness to a disease that is affecting thousands of men and women and their caregivers all over the world and yet a disease that few people have ever heard of. My husband was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia last year and it has had a devastating affect on our lives. While everyone has heard of Alzheimers few have heard of Lewy Body. Please do your part by making people aware of this terrrible disease which, unfortunately is so often misdiagnosed with even further devastating consequences. More awareness can mean more research and perhaps more answers for so many. Thank you, Dr. Gupta for all you bring to the field of medicine. Let this endeavor be another claim to your well deserved fame.
