Anderson Cooper looks at what the presidential candidates are saying, and not saying, about gun control laws.
Guess neither candidate wants to shoot himself in the foot.Gun control act of 1935 prohibits civilian possession of automatic weapons. Also intended to prevent African-Americans from carrying pistols thereby protecting Whites.
If the U.N. has established that internet expression is fundamental right and C.N.N. encourages and praises the decision, why all the "moderation"? anyone anti 1st amendment?
I would like to address an issue that has been sidestepped for years. It isn't related to guns but it is related to government contractors; particularly a company called GDIT. Last October, GDIT bought a company called Vangent Government Solutions. Even though the company has changed the business practices haven't except for in some respects for the worst. I worked for Vangent/GDIT for about five years. On April 18, 2010 I experienced either an anomaly or a TIA. In any case I was in a catatonic state for about 90 minutes during which time 911 was never called and at the end of my shift (which I had come out of my catatonic state) they sent me on my merry way to drive home. This company which has numerous military contracts and acquired Vangent with (I speculate) the intention of diversifying into other government activities such as Student Loans and CMS's Medicare Contract. For those that have parents or grandparents on Medicare and they call into 1-800-Medicare they should be prepared for some harsh realities. 1) The training that the Customer Service Representatives undergo is a three week training course that teaches them very little. (2) The certification that graduates them from the training is supervisors basically signing off (in other words nobody fails training). (3) There are various metrics that GDIT has to have in place for core value no. 4, which is we expect to be profitable. In efforts of accomplishing this they take CSRs off the phone to give the appearance that these call centers are busier than they actually are; so in short, while Grandma and Grandpa wait ten minutes or so just to talk to a person this is more than likely due to several csrs sitting at their desks and GDIT lining their pockets so they can more money from CMS.
The statement that we can't stop all violence does not mean we should do nothing!!! I feel an assault weapons band would be the first step since the is no legitimate use or need of these weapons by the public. At the same time we should also ban any accessories or conversion kits for these weapons as well. The ban of jacketed or non standard ammunition not used for legitimate hunting should all be in the first step. This by and of itself may not stop but should reduce some of the mass killings and assault on authorities.
Although gun regulations are needed to keep automatic weapons of civilians, it does not mean the 2nd Amendment will be violated. Weapons used for self defense do not need to be rapid shooters with more than 100 opportunities to kill at one shot. We own registered guns. We submitted all pertinent information and no one stopped us from buying guns legally. But the fact is that too many people feel fearful enough to have a small arsenal of weapons.
Even if we believed that "only the paranoid survives" does not keep the state to at least try to keep hi powered guns from the psychotic. I think to leave the gun laws as they are and start looking into that young man's head because people are still the ones who commit the crimes and those are criminals who don't value human life or feel any guilt. They pursuit their happiness by causing other's death or causing pain. They will do that with or without guns.
I lost two friends in situations that if they would be carrying a gun at the time they would still be alive.
The problem isn't gun laws, anyone with half a brain can and will make one to work on air or any other propellent without the use of "gun powder". The problem is consequences to these actions. We have all the other countries that we fight and die for the rights of that reduce these actions by taking the life of a "life taker" so why not do it our selves. The American way of life is considered weak because we have focused on the wrong thing and are considered to fear death. They are correct. American society as a whole fears death. This is why we are attacked and are fought with such vigor that we can't understand where it comes from. We are weak because we make ourselves weak. We should stand up for life by removing it from those who take it without a doubt like we Americans just had in Co. Sick or not the public needs to know that it's not subjective to take a life. We need to know that yours willl end if you decide to take travel down that road. My only regret is that these sick people don't just kill themselves before they go on a rampage.
