Girlfriend: Shooting victim is a hero

Navy veteran Jon Blunk, a 26-year-old father of two, was killed protecting his girlfriend in theater 9.

When the gunfire started he shielded her from the bullets. “He laid up against me and had the other side of my body against the concrete seating and I was pretty much boxed in due to Jon,” Jansen Young tells Anderson.

“It’s been a traumatic experience,” she says, “but today’s better than yesterday.”

Young wants people to know that Blunk was a hero before this. He used to say that he was born to serve his country.

“Remember the things that are special,” she says. “It helps to talk to people that love you.”

Watching your show tonight - Thank you for your superb and so very appropriate human interest journalism - and especially for focuing on the victims, their families; for letting their famillies share the stories of the lives of those lost and those still fighting for their lives– and for telling us about the heroes in this tragedy as well. The nation grieves with these families and with Aurora.
No one wants to hear about the shooter right now or why he did this. He's locked up, won't be getting out and we can perhaps learn more about motives and so forth later after the behaviorists and pyches have had the opportunity to investigate and during the trial. Not now though.
Thank you for your professionalism and for your respect of what has happened here.
