Anderson Cooper reports on the shooting at a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado that left 12 dead and over 50 wounded.
I heard maybe wrong that gun sells in Colorado have gone up since the shooting.. Wondered if I heard the news right when the news talked about 600 pounds of ammunition found so I was thinking who delivers that many pounds of amo, UPS, or FED EX.
These guys or women never notice how heavy the package is or how many times they deliver to the same place and maybe glance at what place of business it is from? If they did notice why not anonymous call to the Feds.
We learn from many of the stories we hear and watch solve any problem by killing.
The gun control debate needs to be seriously reactivated; but, strangely I am not hearing many remarks on the tv commentaries about how much the suspect looked like hundreds of characters in combat videos.
When our Forefathers said we had the right to bear arms, I don't think they thought we should all have the right to have automatic weapons like this. They meant a pistol or a hunting rifle. Wow, one of these days you're going to hear about one heck of a neighborhood shootout. What do these people say they need these automatic guns for? Definitely not for hunting. Cops won't have an effect on law enforcement pretty soon. They won't be able to stand up to these people "bearing arms."
"Tyranny is defined as that which is legal for the government and illegal for the citizenry."
When our forefathers said we had the right to bear arms, they were about to enter into a bloody revolution against a tyrannical government that forced unfair taxes, disarmament, and the prescence of abusive government agents and soldiers upon the people. They didn't encourage the ownership of flintlock rifles and pistols because they were hard to use. They encouraged the ownership and use of these weapons because they were the top of the line firepower of the time. They encouraged every citizen to be armed to be able to assist in repelling vicious attacks on civilian targets.
As far as a pistol or hunting rifle vs. an "assault rifle?" There are many semi-automatic hunting rifles. They're usually chambered in a larger caliber than .223, usually up around .30-06. That will not only be fatal to the first target, but to every target behind them. Pistols are concealable, which is why they usually have a longer waiting period than any semi-automatic rifle. The lethality of either against an unarmored target is not in question. What matters is the potential for their use becoming necessary.
Remember why you have the right to bear arms. It's not for hunting, it's not for sport, it's not for self-defense on the small scale (although that one is the closest reason). The ability to project deadly force is the right upon which all the others depend. You were given the right to bear arms because our forefathers recognized the corruption that could exist in the hearts of some men; the evil that could come to power through deception and lies. We have the right to bear arms so that if the government decides to attack it's citizens, we will be prepared to establish a new government.
What automatic weapons are you talking about? There were no automatic weapons found. They were semi-automatic, that means you have to pull the trigger for each shot. Also, you're interpreting the second amendment when you say " I don't think they thought we should all have the right to have automatic weapons like this. They meant a pistol or a hunting rifle." Let's keep in mind there were no automatic weapons in 1791 when the second amendment was passed, the first automatic weapon called the Gatling gun was designed in 1861 during the U.S. Civil War. Do some research and think for yourself instead of the media and the government doing all your thinking for you.
How many people think there should now be gun detectors in ALL major gathering spots, ie. Malls, Movie Theatres, Sports Facilities, etc?
Hopefully zero. This is not Nazi Germany, yet.
I am in total favour of there being gun and weaponry detectors in every public facilities, schools, theatres , malls, etc etc.
It's all in how things are looked at.
If this was an Al Qaeda terrorist, then real gun control would be screamed for very very quickly by all Americans.
Because he is a young guy he will be classed as as crazy, nothing will be done with guns/bullets, and the next large gun story may happen (hopefully never) and the apathy will repeat.
Can someone please tell me why a 6 year old girl and a 6 mo. old baby were in the theater for a midnight showing of a movie? Of a violent, loud, movie? At midnight?
Parents need their time off too, a 4 month old baby will generally sleep through anything while being cuddled and rocked. And it's not unusual for a 6 year old girl to be there either, it was a weekend for something the family, and I'm sure herself, were very excited for. Not everyone has these qualms about their kids witnessing violence, it's a natural part of life unfortunately. Better to be educated than ignorant.
My heart is broken for my Colorado family. As a Player fo the Colorado Rockies, I lived in Aurora, CO. That is where my family and I called home! Home! Home!
To our government: you are either part of the problem or part of the solution to these horrific acts. Doing nothing indicates that you are part of the problem. Doing nothing is not the answer. The antiquated 2nd amendment needs to be modified or 'Amended', I'm sure the parents of the victims in Colorado, Tucson, Virgina, Killeen TX, Ft. Hood, Chicago, New Orleans... feel the same way. Being able to protect your home and your family, we all should be good with that. Protect your home, but with an assault rifle, Ak-47. Those guns are ment to stop human hearts from beating. There is no reason why they should be available to whoever wants one and can afford it. As a caring country who professes to love its people, we have to do a better job of protecting them. We can do better than that. To our government, let's not wait until you or your family become victims of one of these tragic act before you act. May all the victims who pass away rest in peace. I'm wishing a speedy and loving recovery to those who were injured. May God surround you all with his love, grace and mercy.
I agree guns are one thing...but heavy duty ARs need to go...!
Heavy duty ARs? You do realize this is the rifle that has kept America winning wars for almost 40 years? Would you be saying the same thing if the rifle was pink and called the "Rainbow fairy wand AR?"
How many more shooting are we going to have in this country before there is some control on how much ammunition a person can buy. I feel every order or purchase needs to be reported and a reason giving for the purchase. I have no problem with people having ther hunting rifels or guns.
What I like to know is how can any yahoo go and buy all the guns and tactical stuff he did and be not set any alarms to any one, FBI ,credit cards, or why would any store would just sell all the he got with any ???? , one saw any the red flags? ? Do you just care about how much I'm making by selling guns , at what point do we care?, And who sold him all the guns and why didn't he call the police ? Very sad ... I so wish they are tracking n looking at what store or place he got the guns n tactical stuff and the fine them n put them out of business ..
He bought stuff on the internet...what country?
Yes that's right, don't blame the idiot who pulled the trigger on these weapons, blame the people who sold them to him. That makes sense. Too bad all those agencies you're pointing the finger at are too busy to care. Those people who sell stuff like that have families and mortgages to pay for just like you do. Now go sit behind you TV some more and enjoy the show.
For one it's not the vendors fault for selling "weapons and the tac gear"; it's completely legal to buy weapons in the U.S. so no there will be no red flags going up because people buy guns every single day. Tac gear you can get anywhere now-a-days, it's not difficult to find. You can't blame anybody but the person who did the act. Therefore saying "I so wish they are tracking n looking at what store or place he got the guns n tactical stuff and the fine them n put them out of business" is not a viable statement, the vendor cannot control what the person does with the weapons purchased or gear purchased. It would be highly unfair to the vendor to fine him and put him out of business; unless the purchases were done "Illegally" then you have a justified fine and recommendation to be put out of business as well as criminal charges.
Question: How does an unemployed medical student afford $20,000 in weapons gear?
That is what I want to know too....and what every news station seems to be just glancing over....and why would he go to such lengths to booby trap his apartment to just tell the police about it when he surrenders to them?? The whole story seems a little weird to me to say the least...
Can you determine if the emergency doors had a alarm, I have noticed here in Florida that all emergency doors here have alarms attached. Not that this could have avoided this tragedy, but may have helped ...
Special Profile To Avert Mass Murder (SPAMM)- Phase I
Gun Shops, Sporting/Police/Military Equipment Companies, should be required, by law, to report, to local authorities, when unusual purchase/requests are made of: tactical weaponry, munitions, armored body ware, etc., including law enforcement identified (ID) personnel; and, further, requiring a legally mandated “waiting-period” before releasing the purchase(s).
The appropriate law enforcement “profiler,” should begin an immediate investigation; collecting data which would be relevant in developing a probable-cause profile, to secure the applicable legal warrant, for surveillance of person(s) of interest (POI).
Socio-Psychopathic Profile To Avert Mass Murder (SPAMM) – Phase II
Law enforcement professional determination, when Person(s) of Interest (POI), meets the criteria: Socio-Psychopathic Profile To Avert Mass Murder (SPAMM).
How difficult would it be to implement this process?
When are we going to reallly understand the impact of this constact barrage of insanely violent movies, video games and tv shows?? Now? After 12 more deaths this weekend? In the future when there are more injuries and deaths? Batman, Spiderman, Sopranos, NCIS, Law and Order SVI et al, Dexter, Halo? Really? Do you still believe this is entertainment? Do you believe just because you have a better grasp of what is real and what is not that this crap, and the energy it brings should be floating around? Is it valuable to our society in anyway? What about the actors and studios who attach themselves to this violence for millions of your dollars? Is the salary worth what we have seen repeated with this and other tragedies? Will we take some responsibility as consumers for this??
We have Live Aid, Farm Aid, theme songs, all good causes driven by celebrities trying to do good. Why hasn't anyone in this field taken up the cause of gun control as the amount of death, physical harm/trauma it causes every year is horrific? Is this taboo or simply die to the lack of awareness or just powerful lobbyist.....
Anderson Cooper goes beyond the headlines to tell stories from many points of view, so you can make up your own mind about the news. Tune in weeknights at 8 and 10 ET on CNN.
