KTH: Supreme Court ruling spin

Both parties are using talking points to address the health care mandate as a tax, as ruled by the Supreme Court.

Oh let's just settle the matter in the way our former Republican Governor Tim Pawlenty did: sign a "no new taxes" pledge then raise fees on everything. Regression seems to be standard operating procedure for Republicans these days. What that means is the Republicans want to go back to the "good old days" when I, a healthy-eating excercising non-overweight person with a pre-existing condition had to pay a lot more and wait six months to be covered by the same policy an obese hard-drinking smoker could get without preconditions. What exactly is it that Mitt Romney wants to repeal? The cap on insurance company administrative costs? Obamacare requires your premium dollars to be used for health care, not CEO bonuses. Or how about we let insurance companies drop children with cancer out of coverage because they are too expensive? That is what Mitt Romney has promised to repeal. Agreed, nobody likes to be told they have to do anything. What the Supreme Court has said is that the government can't make you buy insurance, but it can fine you if you don't. Fair enough. We decided we wanted to save the insurance companies, so participation of people who are less likely to get sick is necessary if that is the goal. Lets work with what we've got instead of promising to destroy everything without offering any other options. We need to start asking our pliticians what exactly it is they want to repeal, and who they are willing to harm by doing so.

Tax or penalty it doesn't matter. As a person you have a body that is sometimes subject to illness and disease. You have the responsibility to provide youself with insurance. You have a choice to buy a car and must have insurance if you do, as a human being you cannot decide that you do not have a body.that will most likely become ill. The decision to give you life was decided by your parents. The responsibility to insure that you remain healthy is yours not everyone else. The tax or penalty is a fair way to urge those that can afford it to buy insurance. What would these people do if access to hospitals and doctors was denied unless they had the cash upfront prior to treatment?

Dig deeper into this healthcare bill and you will find DOZENS of different taxes imposed on people, not just the "penalty" for refusing to buy into it. For example, people who have health insurance provided by their employers are taxed up to 42% on the benefit, depending upon their total earned income. Please do the story on ALL the hidden taxes imbedded within the health care program.

Obamacare says you cannot be denied for preexisting conditions. My children although not denied health insurance, were rated a "4" which meant that we were charged a much higher rate. What has been put in place in Obamacare to prevent this in the future? My health insurance is twice as much as my mortgage. I am the middle class and would like an explanation.

Anderson, I would like for you or someone else on CNN to look into the way the people will have to pay for their insurance...how much will be paid for them by the government...how much will come out of their pockets. Right now, all we hear about is how much tax people will have to pay if they don't get insurance. I understood that there is a percentage involved...like if you make so much money, you will have to pay a percentage of your income, and no more. That's what people need to know and want to hear...not continue to perpetuate what they will have to pay in taxes if they don't get insurance. The purpose of all this Healthcare thing is to try to get everybody insured. I would appreciate a response, but morethan that I would appreciate someone finding out those thing and starting to let the people know. That is the only way, that people will be informed. As it is now, all they get is it's a tax that they will have to pay.

    Dear Mr. Cooper
Explain to me why those in congress would find taxing or penalizing 1% of Americans who can afford healthcare insurance, yet choose not to, a reason to defeat a universal healthcare Law. At the same time refusing to tax the top 10% of income Americans at the same rate as the middleclass Americans,,, for some trickle down economic mentality. Too much government, I think not.
The gull of any elected official to tell the American public that healthcare insurance should be monitored by the market when we provide them with the best of healthcare insurance.
I have a simpler question how much money will these politicians and interest groups collect and spend to deny universal health care and where is that money coming from, you ,,, me ,,, while insurance companies deny coverage to those who have insurance.
You know I would support the opposition if they could say.. we supported the president and their policies, that we did all in our powers as elected officials to rebuild the economy regardless of my political preference and correct the ills of the healthcare system. Instead all I have heard from day one is that they will do all they can to defeat what a majority of Americans voted for.
I thank you for the oppertunity to sound off.

the court called it a tax so they could pass it as being legal. now both partys are fighting over if it a tax or a what every the democrats are calling it. if the democrats agreed with the court it should be labeled a tax. if not the GOP should get it repelled. see how easy this goverment should be run. but since both partys are bought and pay for by the crooks it time to vote them all out. FLAT TAX NO MORE THE 2 TIMES IN THE GOVERMENT ANY ONE CAUGHT SELL THERE VOTE SHOULD GO TO JAIL FOR LIFE IMPEACH THE JUDGES ON THE S C AND GET NEW ONE WHO DO THE LAW NOT THE PARTYS WAY

Whenever I see a republican congressman on the news talking against the healthcare law, I wish one of the CNN reporters would ask them this question: "Would you and your family give up your healthcare in Congress?" then ask, "Why do you feel the American public does not deserve healthcare coverage?" Do you feel they are not as worthy as you since they voted you in where you are now? "

Your argument is worth answering. You ask the question about whether people "deserve" health care. What else do people "deserve"?

Democrats and Independents who want Obama to be re-elected MUST blast ads showing the American public how the Healthcare Bill will help us.

Fox Business Network and Fox News Channel are blasting lies about Obama and the bill. They are calling it "ObamaTax". One person actually said Obama is encouraging the elderly to get food stamps, and with those food stamps people buy cigarettes and alcohol. THOSE ARE COMPLETE LIES.

In grocery stores it clearly says those are the two things a person with Food Stamps cannot buy.

Rubert Murdoch and his networks are giving it all they have to get Obama out by twisting the truth. They are misleading the public.

I am praying for those who want Obama to be re-elected to BLAST ads to counter this.

It's a scary time (at least in my opinion)
