The very fact that the defense is even considering this testimony is quite damning as the only value in this diagnosis is the followup claim that 'he is not responsible for what he did – its his messed up personality that is responsible."
This is somewhat akin to a killer claiming his violent personality is to blame, not 'him' – as though there are two entities within this person – Jerry and the Histrionic.
Personality disorder comes with lots of other symptoms, amongst which is the ability to charm people and wear 'various personality masks' that fool lots of people.
I think that the prosecution could have taken the defense to the cleaners by using that Histrionic Personality Disorder to demonstrate how this diagnosis, in fact, complements the evidence brought forth by the witnesses and the seeming contradiction between the testimony of the kids vs. that of the lady who claims Jerry is the nicest guy on earth.
