KTH: Are tests for mad cow disease enough?

Only about 40,000 cattle are tested for mad cow disease in the U.S. each year. Anderson Cooper looks at the testing procedure.

    and testing in a lab may not be provide a definitive representation of how long the disease take to show or be recognized in a real life scenario

    Brian Todd did a segment this morn (4/26/12) on mad cow disease and how it is the older cows that present with the disease not the younger cows. How do we know that this is not simply an indication of a lengthy incubation period? As in AIDS it can take years to present.
